About

Cyndi Lauper is a pop singer and activist from Queens, New York. Upon the release of her 1983 debut album, She’s So Unusual, Lauper became a pop sensation, thanks to the success of Top 5 singles including “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop” and “All Through the Night.” Lauper also won Best New Artist at the 1985 Grammys. Her second and third albums, True Colors (1986) and A Night to Remember (1989), added more hit singles like “True Colors” and “I Drove All Night” to her oeuvre and by the end the decade, Lauper had become synonymous with the ’80s new wave movement and synthpop sound. In addition to her twelve solo albums, Lauper also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which she became the first solo woman to ever win the Tony for Best Original Score. In the fall of 2024, the singer embarked on her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour in conjunction with her documentary film LET THE CANARY SING.

  • Cyndi was Awesome!

by sveena on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi can still rock the house. Her voice is amazing and her energy was electrifying. She had the house on its feet the entire time. What a great performer. I will continue to go back and see her "Time After Time"....

  • CYNDI ROCKS!!!

by LAWGUY on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

An amazingly energetic & engaging rock-tinged performance. Cyndi's voice is every bit as powerful as it was 25 years ago. And it's quite obvious that she adores her fans. BRAVA to Cyndi!!!

  • Cyndi Lauper was awful

by yourekidding on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 1 out of 5

She came out at 9:15 seemingly stoned! It then took another 10 minutes to get the sound right. She performed for only an hour and spent half of that talking. She also spent half her time in the orchestra seats where we could not see her. I have been to other performances here, but will think twice before going again.

  • She Bopped!

by Crackerjack on 8/17/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

I have to be honest. I was only going to see Cyndi Lauper because I have a second home in Poconos and I love the Penn's Peak venue. BUT...she was absolutely amazing! I love live music and I have to say that she was one of the most entertaining concerts I've ever been too and I've seen all the big boys.

  • Cyndi Lauper was fantastic at Penn's Peak

by ShariMac on 8/17/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 4 out of 5

Cyndi Lauper put on a fantastic show at Penn's Peak. Her voice is amazing and she seemed to have a great time with the crowd. She periodically came out dancing with the crowd, which I thought was great. She also brought up some young girls to dance with her on stage. She performed a lot of her old music. This was my first time at Penn's Peak. The setting is gorgeous and every seat is a good seat. My only complaint is that my seat was upstairs and the sound was not as good as I would like. It had too much base and was drowning out Cyndi's voice. Overall, I would go back there and I would absolutely see Cyndi again!

  • lauper delights

by cnm54 on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

cyndi lauper, who i've seen several times in the past, never fails to provide an evening of fun. she's engaging and delightful, her voice is still wonderful and her song selection eclectic and engaging. she connects with her audience in a way that many other performers can't or won't. the only negative comment has nothing to do with lauper herself but rather with the venue, bergen pac in englewood, nj. someone should have thought to turn the air conditioning on or up or have it repaired -- it was horribly hot inside.

  • Cyndi was amazing

by Prettymomma on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi really know hows to rock. I was expecting pure entertainment and she didn't disappoint. She really connects with her audience, we adore her and it all works! Her band was terrific, each individual outstanding. They had an opening band (all-girl, really good) at 8 pm and Cyndi didn't come out until 9:30, kind of late for me on Sunday night. She played for 2 hours with all her heart.

  • Cyndi Lauper: The Hot & Sticky Tour?

by NYCdreamfactory on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 3 out of 5

Bergen Peforming Arts Center should be fined for all the heat strokes it caused. Everyone was sweating like pigs. It was hard to enjoy the show because the heat was such a distraction. Cyndi's voice was in top form, as was her ever youthful body and spunk on stage. The outfit she wore looked like a relic from her Screaming Mimi days and didn't stand the test of time. Her hair was a mess, and not in a fun way. The sound engineering was off kilter, and you could tell CL was not pleased, especially as she kept interrupting songs to fix audio problems or reprimand her band members for not following her directions properly. The audience was as much a mess as what transpired on stage. Some people would stand even during ballads. Come on, ladies and gentlemen, it's not a night club! The opening band, Hunter Valentine, was not a complementary fit for Cyndi (imagine a young bargain basement Joan Jett alongside a punked out Tilda Swinton both jamming on their electric guitars while an exceptionally talented Mama Cass in waiting stole the spotlight with her vigorously employed drum set).

  • Cyndi Lauper was more amazing than ever.

by danbyfour on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

I was blown away by the amazing talent and humanity that Cyndi Lauper exhibited during her concert. She puts her all into her performances and is a better vocal artist than ever before. She is very kind to her audience as well. She came into the audience and invited some children on stage for "Girls just wanna have fun". She also brought the opening act out to perform with her for one song. A truly generous artist! May she sing forever.

  • Cyndi is Cyndi always awesome seen her 40 times

by mikejrvip on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi Lauper will always give you 100% every show. I saw her for the first time at a club called Privates in NYC 30 yrs ago and have seen her perform 40 times live sincethen and have never been disappointed!

  • Great voice!

by Musicfan55 on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing concert - her voice is unbelievable! You will not be disappointed. Such a great talent and lots of energy and enthusiasm. She sang from all her albums so you will hear a wide variety of songs.

  • cyndi!!

by leandra321 on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

i thought the opening band went on too long, we waited an hour and ten minutes to see cyndi, after all, that's who we were there to see!! she was great, it's amazing to hear her voice, such a range! i loved it!

  • Cyndi Lauper

by Gogol on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 2 out of 5

The opening act was horrible. I went to hear Cyndi Lauper, not these young laud-screaming girls. So there should be better choice of the genre and the performers for the opening act. The quality of sound was very poor. We couldnt hear the singer!!! The singer's microphone was over powered by the drum and guitar mics...all we could hear was a low sound of the singer and the loud sound of the drum...basically I couldnt hear what she was singing. However, Cyndi Lauper was great...I loved every moment of her performance. I just wish that the quality of sounds were better.

  • Cyndi with tons of energy

by xenaathenazeus on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Cyndi had a lot of energy. Wish she sang more of her older songs. Female backup singer was very good and both sounded great together. I would go again.

  • cyndi Lauper

by jojonap on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

She was fantastic........... blew the roof off. I loved her at her comeback performance with Cher. I can't really say she improved since then cause she was great at that time also.

  • AMAZING!

by lollipop88 on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Cindy Lauper was absolutely fantastic, her voice is amazing, more smooth and mature, even better than it was. She was such a great performer, sharing stories, engaging the public, standing up on the chairs singing in the seating area. We knew she would have been great but she overcame every expectation.

  • When can I see her again?

by GoodnessGlynnis on 8/15/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

If I held any expectations for Cyndi Lauper's performance, she blew them out of the ballpark! Her voice is incredible! She can dance! She's got it going on!

  • Cyndi Lauper: Great music is universal!

by Gothamite on 8/14/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi's show was terrific from beginning to end - from her universally-recognizable songs of the 80's, to the tight musicianship of her band, to the amazing voice that comes out of that little woman - a fantastic night of great music, for folks of all ages and backgrounds. The concert was thoroughly enjoyed by all. She's a true professional in every regard, and there were moments in the music that were awe-inspiring.

  • Cyndi +++++ Penn's Peak ---

by billMe on 8/14/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 4 out of 5

Cyndi's true colors were shining through. Her passion for her music is genuine. Her energy is contagious. There’s not much that can take away from the performance and show-personship of Cyndi Lauper. The venue for the show is excellent. A rustic, country feel makes the place relaxing but as with many other shows at Penn’s Peak we’ve come to expect the sound mix problems. Cyndi had to direct the crew to boost or lower different instruments and mics as the show progressed. They seemed to be asleep at the board. Then there’s the strict no dancing policy at the Peak that got a gal ejected. There were no notable moments of musicianship with the band. Even with the technical problems, Cyndi threw herself into the performance mingling with the crowd for numerous songs. She’s an excellent artist and performer. Check her out but I would avoid Penn’s Peak if possible.

  • Cyndie Lauper

by PeggyDougherty on 8/14/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

Cyndie Lauper is an amazing vocalist and musician. I have truly underestimated her in both categories over the years. She loves her fans and her fans love her. Didn't know she played so many instruments, either. Rose O'Donnell is very foul-mouthed. her material is old. Come on, still trying to slam Donald Trump? Dirty jokes involving her own kids? Please think harder and get some new material.....
