Zapp Band did a great show

by ttzz on 7/14/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

It was obvious that the Zapp Band rehearsed their show. High energy, fun, lots of hits and they integrated songs that used Zapp samples into the show. Confunkshun also did a nice show but there were some low energy moments. The drummer was great! Their energetic bassist brought the energy back up by using the bass line from several hits to lead a medley of songs. It brought the show's energy back up before closing with Love Train.

    All groups were great

by depo on 7/14/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

I enjoyed every group. There songs were just like ther records. Performances were spectular. Costume changes by Zapp were timely. Any group could have been first are last. Each group held. there own. Zapp- It was as if Roger never left. That's hard for most groups to perform as well when a member is no longer.

    ZAPP TURNED IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by chuckbrownfan1 on 7/14/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

I must admit that I was not to enthused about going to this show because I did not remember any songs that Slave sing, I thought that Zapp would not be able to recreate the excitment that Roger would give when he was alive and on stage and I did not remember any songs that Confunkshun sang back in the day, but boy was I WRONG!!!!! I came in on Slave so I do not have much to say about them, but ZAPP RIPPED THE ROOF OFF OF THE CARTER BARRON!!!!! I fell in love with Zap because they had just as much excitment going on if not more, their enegery was off the rictor, their voices were excellent and it just brought back so many memories!!! Confunkshun ripped the roof too, I remembered a lot of their songs too and they still got it going on. All in all it was a very good show, and yes I would go see Zapp if they ever make it back to DC!! i really enjoyed myself the entire time that I was at the Carter Barron. My best friend on the other hand lost her mind when Confunkshun hit the stage, she is a long time Confunkshun Fan, she was at Fort Dupont last year and she loved them there too, but I think that she really enjoyed them Saturday Night because we were both in front of the stage in hand distance of them and when the one guy left the stage and walk thru the audience, I thought that she was going to lose it!!!!lol

    Outstanding

by KEBJ on 7/14/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

I personally thought that Zapp stole the show. Although Roger is no longer with them, if unaware of that situation, you would never know. They sound so much like the records it is unbelievable. Actually all the groups were awesome.

    Zapp stole the show!

by Dan1305 on 7/13/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Awesome crowd, very festive atmosphere! The park is magic at night, enjoyed the security and controlled environment. Police assisted with departure. Great show, crowd was very receptive, especially for ZAPP Band! They came on "steppin," great suit/costume changes, very impressive. Would definitely catch them again and shows at Carter Barron!

The FUNK just gets better with time!!

by ladyinred8899 on 7/13/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

With just 3 songs, Slave left the audience a bit cold and disenchanted. Nevertheless, ZAPP and Confunksion ROCKED IT OUT!! Under the evening stars on a great night, the ZAPP band came with their A game. Still thanking God for Roger Troutman. After they left the stage, we were concerned that Confunksion wouldn't be able to follow them. However, we were mistaken!! Michael Cooper and the other original members were AWESOME. They gave a funk-filled performance that left us begging for more. It's so good to see these groups haven't lost their magical touch. I look forward to seeing them again soon!! Just please leave Slave at home and let GQ, the Ohio Players or the Barkays get the party started right!!

    Fun!

by Anonymous on 7/13/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Overall the concert was great! Each group in the past released several hits! They sounded great. I've gone to concerts in the past where the artists didn't sound like the records they made 20 or 30 years ago - those groups need to find some replacements.

    The Show was the Bomb!

by Burger on 7/13/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

I had a great time at the show. It was a party from the start. The park rangers did not bother people when they wanted to dance. The music from these three groups made it impossible to stay seated. Slave started it off. I loved the songs. It was great to see Drac a member from the original group. It seems he is still going strong. Confunkson was awesome. They looked super and they could sing and get down. Mr. Cooper looked so good to me. His voice was outstanding. However, Zapp blew me away. I loved the show they put on. The crowd loved them too. Confunkshun had a hard act to follow. I was so excited that looked at Unsung again about Roger and Zapp as soon as I got home. Their performance certainly honored Roger. I want to see Zapp again. Zapp was the Bomb! I Love them!

    Con Funk Shun was amazing!!!

by Kelainerose on 7/12/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Unfortunately, I was late and missed Slave...but, showed up just in time for Zapp...they were pretty good, considering that they are missing their main ingredient, Roger. However, I could tell that they were pressed for time, because I would have liked them to jam "Dance Floor" , "More Bounce to the Ounce" and "Computer Love" a bit longer-especially since they had Shirley Murdock there with them!. But, Confunkshun exceeded expectations...they sound exactly the same as they did back in the day. They sang all of my favorite ballads, " Let me put Love on Your mind", " Love Train", and "Straight to the Heart" with serious passion. And of course, funked it up with their other tunes! We had a fabulous time! Didn't want the night to end.

    CONFUNKSHUN - ZAPP - SLAVE

by Duchess89 on 7/12/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

This was a really good show! Slave was just ok! They could use a little more practice. Zapp came with it, their stage performance was more mature, not so much comedic. They were in good voice and the band was great. In my opinion this was one of their best performances in a long time. Michael Cooper and Confunkshun were off the HOOK! The band was tight and they were over all excellent. I thought they had a hard act to follow after Zapp, but they held their own.

    Awesome

by Southeastpam on 7/12/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

This show had me on my feet from the time "Slave" opened the show then "Zapp" and last "Confunkshun". I stood on my feet the entire time doing all those ole school dances. I enjoyed myself as the entire show was just simply awesome!

Slave and Zapp were excellent, but CONFUNKSHUN brought the house down! Like old fine wine, they've gotten better with age. Micheal Cooper, fantastic. That bass player was not only fine, but played his behind off. The tenor sang better than the album. Seeing these groups sounding better than ever truly makes me appreciate the 70's era in which I grew up in more than ever. And best of ALL, family members of ALL AGES could have attended this show. I live in Baltimore and if there is any way to get CONFUNKSHUN, SLAVE and ZAPP to perform anywhere in CHARM CITY, somebody please let me know!I WILL BE THERE with both of my sons.

    Confunkshun-Zapp-Slave

by Morgan48 on 7/12/10Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Overall I thought the concert was really good, I'm from the generation when these groups first came on to the music scene and it was good to travel back down memory lane with them and the music. On the way into the Carter Barron, some men behind us were talking about the fact that they had seen Zapp after Roger Troutman the original leader was murdered by his brother and that the band wasn't so good anymore. I thought they were excellent, whatever they were going through with the death of Roger has gotten better and they were in full force.
