Great evening....dancers were fun and CJO is always great.

  • Happy Anniversary Columbus!

by ladyfriends on 2/11/12Capitol Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Jazz Moves Columbus was a great event and tribute to the city of Columbus, Ohio. With a video of the 200 year history of the city in the background to introduce each dance selection, the story of columbus through dance was wonderful. We really enjoyed it.

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra was great, and Ballet Met performers superb. Together they put on a fantastic show.

While I am not a "real fan" of ballet, I was very impressed by the dancers. They blended well with the orchestra and vice versa. A fun time was had by all.

by PooPaa on 2/6/12Capitol Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

The trumpet soloist was unforgettable while the mix of jazz and dance really kept my attention the entire time. I brought my 18 year old jazz musician son and 14 year old dancer daughter...on the way there they were definately getting anxious and once there the average age of the crowd made it worse...then the show happened and they both loved it!!!

  • Jazz Moves Columbus with Balletmet

by DanBradleyInColubus on 2/5/12Capitol Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Truly two of Columbus' most valuable arts gems are the Columbus Jazz Orchestra and Ballet Met. Now you have one weekend left to see them together, on one stage. Do NOT miss the best show of the winter...its toe tappin', hand clappin' fabulous!

  • Jazz at the Lincoln: awesome and intimate

by klars on 1/30/12Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

As if the Southern Theatre isn't intimate enough, the Lincoln "gets you on- stage". The atmosphere is relaxed; people are responding to the music. It's great. The tribute to Ray Charles was an upbeat, memorable experience. The "talk" with Roger Hines and Sarah Morrow about their time with the Ray Charles band, after the performance, was interesting. Reggie Thomas was a worthy addition on the piano and the B3. Watch out Mr. Floyd. Let's hear more from Sarah Morrow in the future, please.

  • Ray Charles show

    by Mom1943 on 1/30/12Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

It was a wonderful show. Loved the intimacy of the Lincoln Theater. Great musicians, Phil Clark was great - sang Ray's songs with true soul. Love watching Brian direct, sing and play. His enthusiasm for music and the orchestra is great to see!

  • Fantastic concert

    by Raintree2011 on 1/29/12Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I attended the jazz concert after we read about it in the Sunday Dispatch. We knew Sarah Morrow and wanted to see her perform. We were in for a real treat with her outstanding performance along with the other great musicians. Some of the songs brought back memories to me and my husband after 45 years of marriage. They brought tears to my eyes as well as inspiring us to hold hands through several of the numbers! Enjoyed staying after for the interviews with Sarah and the other Columbus native that worked with Ray Charles.

  • Hit The Road Jack

    by Babsh1234 on 1/29/12Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

The entire concert was wonderful, the orchestra is very talented, Ray Charles's music alive and current. Trombonist and piano player guests great additions and the "hometown" singer a rousing way to end the program. Of course America The Beautiful brought us all to our feet with admiration.

My wife and I loved the show! We are just moving to the downtown area, with a goal of becoming more involved in the city. We have purchased season tickets to the Broadway Series and wanted to try our first Jazz Arts concert. We loved the show and intend to become regulars. The music performance was excellent, the personalities and engagement with the audience was a plus. My first time at the Lincoln, and it is an intimate and warm venue. Can't say enough good things about the entire evening.

  • Review Columbus Jazz and Helen Welch 04 DEC 2011

    by ConcertReview001 on 12/6/11Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Although the night was rainy and chilly, Byron started things up with a wonderful little bit of song and trumpet play - he was wonderful! Bobby, as usually, played fantastic keyboards. Helen was sweet and charming - and a fun rendition of 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'. The concert seemed pretty short though - could've been longer. All in all, a fun, entertaining, and upbeat time.

  • Christmas Joy with the CJO

by BigPhatSax on 12/5/11Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Byron Stripling's joke was funny, but didn't apply to me...my wife didn't have to drag me to the show, and it wasn't because of their charming guest artist (Helen Welch). It's because Big Band is the only true music. I know the choirs sing in heaven on Sunday, but I'm pretty sure God has the Count, Kenton, Krupa and all the others gainfully employed the rest of the week. The guys (and Ms Landis) delivered on every promise and threw in a few surprises, too. The chill of early winter was setting in, but after an hour and a half or sheer joy, I was plenty warm. It reminded me of the delirium I always felt after jazz ensemble rehearsals in college. Thanks to the CJO for keeping the flame alive!

  • CJO is the best

by BertBaby on 12/5/11Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

They went into a 10-15 jazz piece with several songs and it just got down! It was awesome. If this does not put you in the mood for the holidays you just plain don't have a sprit to lift. Helen Welch was also very good. A few more songs would have been good - but hey why complain- I did suggest to three couples for their interest next year. Happy Holidays

  • Cols. Jazz Soc. Don't Listen on 9/24

by aceberg on 9/27/11Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

A great concert. Byron and Dave are two very talented musicians and performers. All the supporting players are also excellent. It was entertaining and informative. The Lincoln theatre is beautiful and a worthy venue by itself.

  • Dave Powers and Friends

    by DAB2011 on 9/26/11Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

I wish they could have performed more than two shows. The talent on stage was in top form and the message delivered in both words and music was done with dignity and outstanding musicianship. Columbus is blessed to have such performers.
