Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets — whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War — joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena
The Columbus Blue Jackets have played at Nationwide Arena since their inaugural season in 2000. Located in the heart of The Arena District downtown, the arena features a 1857 Napoleon replica cannon that blasts when the Blue Jackets hit the ice at the start of the game, when they score, and at the end of the game following a Columbus win.
The Columbus Blue Jackets’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Blue Jackets face off against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Blue Jackets play their final game of the regular season at home against Metropolitan Division opponents the Carolina Hurricanes. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:

The Blue Jackets Game on Saturday March 5 was an exciting fast paced game. Both teams played hard and physical. It was fun to watch. It was also the night they retired Rick Nash's jersey. The ceremony was poorly planned, had to many speakers who all talked to long. The result was the game started 45 minutes late. Maybe next time they should ask a team that has retired jerseys before for some advice.
I love going to Blue Jackets games. I just wish there was more leg room and bigger seats!
We went to the blue jackets game on 3/5/21 to see the Boston Bruins. The Arena was in a nice area. It was easy to get to. The arena was clean and the staff was friendly. The Weather was nice that weekend and we were able to walk back to our hotel, which was about a 20 minute walk. Loved the game!
The ceremony for Rick Nash was done very well. It was wonderful to see other CBJ people there to honor and speak about him. I was glad that Nick Foligno was honored tool. The game was intense and played well. The only thing that would have made it better is if CBJ came away with a win.
We were visiting from Windsor ontario Celebrating our sons 8th birthday! The atmosphere of this arena is electric.. my son had the time of his life and so did we! The players interact with the kids during warm ups and it was a definite highlight of my sons night! The arena itself is absolutely amazing… the food was great, the atmosphere was amazing, and the cannon going off after every goal was a HUGE hit!!! We were privileged to be among the fans during the retirement of the Rick Nash jersey! All in all it was an absolute amazing night!!!!! We will definitely be back many times to support the Columbus blue jackets!!!!!!
This was our first CBJ game, coming in from out of town. We were contacted by somebody with the team to make sure we knew everything we needed before we arrived in Columbus. She alerted me to the jersey ceremony, but didn't tell me that it was about 90 minutes before the game started. Other than that, everything was great and we had a wonderful time. My fiance is already talking about making the trip out for more games.
Great easy access to Stadium. Thanks Ticketmaster. 5 stars!!!!
Have sat in similar seats in other arenas & could see all the action. This time we couldn't see action at the other end of the ice.
My husband and I had a great time at the game. The concessions were good and the atmosphere was fabulous.
Had a wonderful time at the game! Fantastic seats! No issues with the transaction nor with getting into the arena. My advice though: don’t get up to use the bathroom or else you’ll miss your opportunity to get in the Jumbotron while your Friends do!! Lol
I’ve been to many sporting events but the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena put me to sleep while the game was not in play. Pregame was the worst I would compare it to being in a art museum/library. If it wasn’t for the cannon that only got fired twice in the 3-2 loss I might still be there sleeping. In game host did not fit the narrative as he may have costarred in Fargo. Arena was beautiful and food/beer options plentiful. Just a little tweaking to raise the excitement level would bring it up to speed with a world class organization like the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Upper deck seats but still a great view. Concessions & restrooms nearby.
Fun game, fun arena, good food and local craft beer options
Great seats, great venue, great time. Tickets were easy to use and the arena staff were friendly. I'll be back to attend more Blue Jacket games. Parking is very convenient.
The game was awesome. The Jackets one 7 to 3. The canon was a sweet touch to the game when they came out on the ice and when they scored goals and when they won.
Always a great time! Love the blue jackets ! Never a dull moment
Only criticism is that there was no clear instruction that Lexus Lounge ticketholders should enter through the designated entrance as I found it from the seating area; otherwise it was an optimal experience with very helpful ushers (one of whom found my glove that I had dropped)
I had such a nice time. It was my second hockey game I have been in my lifetime. The first hockey I went was in January 2006.
The game and everything was good but was not delivered the tickets until almost 30 minutes before puck drop. Can you please fix that please. Thank you!
