Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets — whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War — joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena
The Columbus Blue Jackets have played at Nationwide Arena since their inaugural season in 2000. Located in the heart of The Arena District downtown, the arena features a 1857 Napoleon replica cannon that blasts when the Blue Jackets hit the ice at the start of the game, when they score, and at the end of the game following a Columbus win.
The Columbus Blue Jackets’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Blue Jackets face off against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Blue Jackets play their final game of the regular season at home against Metropolitan Division opponents the Carolina Hurricanes. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Good fun hockey! Paying with cash did not work and finding the machine to buy a prepaid card was a pain! Why not take cash?>
It's like joining a big family, all cheering on the players
Every game that I have attended I have received great customer service from the ticket takers to the concession workers. Your people truly provide a great experience for all attendees. Please take care of your staff as good workers are hard to find.
This was my first game ever. I bought my ticket monday about 4 hrs.before the game. My seat was in section 111 row B seat 5 in was right on the ice. Cannon was behind my section. This was more fun than i thought. I went to the game by myself, i called my friend to see if he wanted to go but he had tickets already so we met up. Can't wait till i go again. Thanks CBJ we lost but we went into OT and than a shootout.
It was very easy to biy the tickets and everything worked great.
The seats were small. Very narrow and so close to the next row the kid infront of me almost hit his head on my knee. Not made for tall or wide people. Plus side was even on the upper deck you could see the game good.
Tickets were ok price wise but the price of beer and food was just a joke. Not sure i will be back.
Stadium was clean. Lines were long. Out of food during first period break on upper level. Was planning to eat at game but just had peanuts.got bottle of water and had to take back as it was frozen. Had very limited selection of real food. Seats were cramped as I was tall.
the seats I chose for this game were amazing!! this is probably the closest i’ve ever been and i loved it! my best friend and i had a great time. GO CBJ!!!💙🤍❤️
The game experience was first rate. The game itself wasn’t. Bring up the youth and go at it.
It is the best atmosphere in any antenna i’ve been in!!
Hockey is awesome, the Blue Jackets are awesome. The arena experience is great!
The whole evening was perfect. The lounge provided a great buffet and atmosphere before and during the game. Our seats were right behind the penalty box and had great views. All the staff were so friendly and professional making us feel special.
Everyone was very nice Usher was great
It was a great experience. I live in Switzerland and watching an NHL match was a dream than became true. The goalkeeper of CBJ used to play in my hometown in Switzerland and this is why I wanted to watch the match. The atmosphere was great and I hope to repeat the experience in future Bruno
The Columbus blue jackets game sorrow is fun and exciting. The seats are a little too close together.
Tall people beware! Got tickets as a surprise for my boyfriend as a third anniversary present. We had a blast at the game, it was my first Blue Jackets game, they are my boyfriend's favorite team and the Blue Jackets ended up winning! My only issue is that my poor boyfriend had to deal with a cupholder, or the back of the seat in front of him digging into his knees the whole game. He was so sore the day after too. He was such a good sport and happy to be there, but I just wished he could have been more comfortable. I want to emphasize again everything else was awesome, great team shop, good food options, great drink options. Just needs to be more room for the vertically gifted people. :)
Venue was great, fans were great. The area around the arena was easily accessible and lots to do. Overall great experience, would definitely go back.
Got tickets to a hockey game and my mom was surprised that it was surprised by her favorite teams
