About

From an early age, Clay Aiken was recognized for his wonderful voice and natural ability as a live performer. After singing in the choir and in several musicals, Aiken attained national fame on the popular TV show American Idol. Though Aiken finished second in the competition to Ruben Studdard, Aiken soon had a recording contract and released his first single, the #1 hit "This Is the Night," within weeks of the show's end. This success was followed by the 2003 release of his double-platinum debut album, The Measure of a Man, which featured the hits "I Will Carry You" and "Invisible." Later that same year, Aiken won the Fan's Choice Award at the American Music Awards, proving millions of fans held the singer close to their hearts. 2004 saw the release of another smash hit for Aiken, the holiday album Merry Christmas with Love.

  • Clay Aiken was awesome!

by MicLS on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I had great seats - third row, so that was super. And the theatre was so beautiful. The acoustics were awesome. Clay was wonderful! So casual and down to earth. His voice is just as perfect in person as on CD...un-altered and totally amazing. I could just close my eyes and listen to him sing for hours... his voice is so pure and breath taking. If you like real music, this is definately a concert you do not want to miss. My boyfriend came with just to spend time with me and was no "overly thrilled" to be going, but afterward he said it was really good. He didn't realize Clay sang some of the songs he did nor did he realize he was "that good." I am very, very glad I went! (My boyfreind heard the ad on the radio and told me about it just a week and a half before the show.. so glad he knew I loved Clay's music!)

  • Clay Aiken is Quality All the Way

by ClaymateElsa on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Clay Aiken is a rarity in music today. Someone who actually has perfect pitch and an amazing clear tone is nearly impossible to find. Clay is a gentleman and involves the entire audience in his concert.

Clay performed songs that suited our age group. My favorite song was his version of Unchained Melody. I hope this comes out as a single. It was my first time at Genesee Theatre and would not recommend this venue for any concert.

  • Disappointment for true Clay fans!

    by lcr1955 on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 1 out of 5

If you're wanting to sit back and listen to Clay's amazing voice and heartwarming songs, this is not the concert for you. Clay sang only one of his original songs. He did do a lame "jazzed up" medley of his standards, but most of this concert seemed like a lounge act of songs that unfortunately did not showcase his incredible talent. Even his mode of dress and stage set did not fit the songs. That combined with at times tasteless and silly humor that certainly did not fit a show filled with "tried and true" standards made this show a complete disappointment.

  • Concert was disappointing.

I would like to have heard some of the songs that he sang on previous CD's. The songs he sang were a little too mellow (lullaby-ish).

  • Clay was AMAZING as always!!!

    by Dashing7 on 3/7/11Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Clay was AMAZING, I have seen all three of his concerts at the Genesee Theatre, two Christmas concerts and now this one. There isn't anything that man can't sing. I love how he interacts with the crowd, you can tell he loves is fans. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to take photo's, I saw everyone doing it and "security" teling them to put it away but no one did. I did repect that, I took one photo and was told to put my camera away and I did, but there were people on the lower level taking video's and photo's all the time. It's not like I'm going to sell them, I want them as a memory of being there, just like everyone else. Clay didn't seem to mind either, he even mentioned it during the concert, he asked someone how soon their video would be on YouTube...lol... He's great. BTW.... To the Genesee Theatre Staff, PLEASE, next time not just for Clay, but for everyone you have on your stage... DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE TO HOLD TOGETHER A BED SHEET, and throw it over the piano equipment, that was Very Tacky!!! I loved what Clay said about that too, "I know I said laid back and cassual, but come on"..... Tacky Genesee Theatre, just TACKY!!! All in All I Loved The Show, Clay Was Totally Awesome!!! I will be back for his next concert at the Genesee Theatre.

  • Average with some highlights

by TroyROCKS on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

First, the theatre was half empty which is a hint and a half that things are not going so well for Clay/the tour isn't all that good. Clay's voice was in fine form. As for the songs/arrangements...he's clearly given up being a pop star. This show was geared to the 40+ crowd in both song selection and style. The best part of the show had nothing to do with singing. Clay is quite a playful and funny guy. The spots b/w songs were most engaging and enjoyable.

Clay puts on a wonderful show. He has one of the best voices. Very entertaining. I have seen him every time he has been in the Twin Cities. Loved this show. He is funny and makes the audience feel a part of the show by talking with audience members.

  • Clay is always amazingly entertaining.

by Flynmnky on 3/7/11Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Clay has one of the most beautiful singing voices I have ever heard. He sounds even better in person, which is hard to believe. He also has a great sense of humor and amazing spirit. Clay definitely was born to sing and entertain.

  • Excellent show!

by ladyjocelyn on 3/6/11Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

Clay Aiken definitely knows how to cover classic songs with his wonderful voice, and this concert was no exception. From "What Kind of Fool Am I?" to "Build Me Up Buttercup," his voice supports the material. What I think would surprise many people, though, is his sense of humor. He takes audience suggestions for musical styles to liven up "Who's Sorry Now," and at this concert he, his backing singer Quiana Parler, and his wonderful band, made the song into a Disney style song, a Russian Fok song, and a New Age tune. It was funny, and it showed the musical talents of all those on stage.

I have now seen Clay 3 times at the Genesee and will hopefully be able to see him again in the future! He was amazing!

  • Loved the show

by Icantsing on 3/6/11Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the performance and felt I was more in a nightclub than a theater, which is a good thing. Clay's voice is amazing and I enjoyed his singing. I really enjoyed the banter he had with the audience. There were some great moments of laughter! Loved the show!

  • Great Show!

Clay is totally on his game once more. These lushness of his voice along with Quiana Parler and the band are superb. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to be able to listen and feel the music.

I've seen Clay Aiken before and loved this layed back, casual feel show. It was fun to see the comedian in him and the playful way he has with his band and audience. His voice/songs were still good as ever but this time was more relaxed ! Maybe it's experience or fatherhood but he really seems to be enjoying himself which makes for a wonderful show.

  • fabulous

by identitycrisis on 3/6/11Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing! The venue was gorgeous, with stacked seating and great acoustics. There wasn't a bad seat in the house. Clay was funny and sang beautifully and the audience was very responsive. I'm glad I saw it and would go again. I only wish it was held in the summer. The weather was the only downside, as it was raining (which turned to snow overnight) and very cold.

I thought this was a great concert for any true clay aiken fan. I thought some of the portions dragged a little but overall I came away pleased. I love the interaction that he had with the audience. I hope he comes back and does a concert with all of his old hits.

  • Clay Aiken is hilarious!

    by EAC71 on 3/6/11Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 4 out of 5

While I did not expect to laugh during the show, I was amazed at how easily he controlled the stage and did stuff that was completely unexpected during a concert. It was very entertaining and made this concert one that was way over my expectations! Keep it up, Clay!
