About

From an early age, Clay Aiken was recognized for his wonderful voice and natural ability as a live performer. After singing in the choir and in several musicals, Aiken attained national fame on the popular TV show American Idol. Though Aiken finished second in the competition to Ruben Studdard, Aiken soon had a recording contract and released his first single, the #1 hit "This Is the Night," within weeks of the show's end. This success was followed by the 2003 release of his double-platinum debut album, The Measure of a Man, which featured the hits "I Will Carry You" and "Invisible." Later that same year, Aiken won the Fan's Choice Award at the American Music Awards, proving millions of fans held the singer close to their hearts. 2004 saw the release of another smash hit for Aiken, the holiday album Merry Christmas with Love.

  • Clay Aiken was outstanding!

by sj64 on 3/10/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 5 out of 5

First Clay Aiken concert and I was not disappointed. He has an amazing voice........can belt it out with seemingly little effort. The quality of his voice in concert is as good as in the studio recording. I'm impressed. His audience interaction was great! His entire program was very intertaining. Was impressed with the quality of his backup people! and the lady's voice was tremendous. Clay's concert was "clean" yet fun with a great variety of song, style, and and dialog. He is a poised young man with a quality show/performance....simplicity and quality!

  • Aiken has gotten EGOTISTICAL

I have been a fan of Clay's since his AI days. And this is the first chance that I had to see him in concert, so I was quite excited. The concert wasn't bad. He messed up a few notes, but one is willing to overlook that, considering he's on a tour and all, and the vocal chords can get sore/tired. During the concert he mentioned how at some previous concerts he'd gone out back afterward and hung out with his fans and chatted and took pictures, etc. So, after this concert quite a few of us went out back to see if he would come out. When we got back there the guard went in to tell him that we were there. The temps dropped to about 50 with a windchill of 30's or 40's. It was quite cold. We all stood there for 2 1/2 HOURS!!! The guard went in several times to tell him we were there. After 2 1/2 hours, and quite a few people had decided to leave, us diehards were still there. When he came out, he did a quick walk along the fence, shaking a few hands and thanking those that he shook hands with. I asked if he'd sign my hat, as I was sure the guard would have let me slip my hat (not me) through the gate for a signature, but he couldn't be bothered. This just seems a little RUDE, and EGOTISTICAL, considering that we bought our tickets in late 2010, and he wasn't able to sell out the venue. It is a good venue, but not an arena, and trust me, there were TONS of seats still available. One would think that if you can't sell out a venue after 8 years in the business, you might want to be as nice to the fans you have as you can. But he showed that he just doesn't care. I mean 2 1/2 HOURS!!!!???? Pllllleeeaaaasssseeee!!!!! He couldn't even do an encore!!!! I haven't been to a concert yet, and I've been to tons of them (as I'm kind of old! lol!), and I have yet to see an artist that didn't do an encore for their fans.... Needless to say, I won't be going to any more of his concerts......

  • Disappointed

My wife and I have been fans of Clays since he rose to fame on American Idol. However, this was our first chance to see Clay live. I am 60 (my wife is much younger…gg) and I was worried that I would be one of only a few older individuals at the concert, so I was pleased to learn he was doing 50s and 60s songs, as some of the best songs he sang on American Idol were 60s songs, Unchained Melody being my favorite. Once we arrived, it became obvious that sixty was going to be close to the median age as a lot of the attendees were in their late sixties, seventies and even eighties. That was a huge surprise to me. Not many young people there. Clay still has an amazing voice, but the presentation was extremely lacking. The four piece accompaniment was spread across the stage with the keyboard and guitar to the left of the stage and drums and base to the right of the stage (facing the stage). This arrangement only drew attention to how small the band was. The light show looked like something out of the mid sixties. Many of the arrangements had obvious pre recording in the mix and it was not done well. Clay’s female backup vocalist and soloist Quiana Parler was very good. In fact, the vocals were good throughout the concert. The arrangements were just lacking. The best song of the evening was Roy Orbison’s ” Crying” sung by both Clay and Quiana Parler followed by the Righteous Brother’s “Unchained Melody” soloed by Clay with a new arrangement. I liked the arrangement Clay sang on American Idol better. I was very pleased to be able to hear Clay sing it in person. Clay should have either sung some of his hits or not, but the melody of his hits done in a Jazz rendition was just not very good. Clay included too much self deprecating humor and his whining about not getting played on the radio and Clay’s disparaging remarks about those getting air on the radio, came off as sour grapes. The jokes by Clay’s bassist were crude, vulgar and low class. My wife and I came away from the concert disappointed after anticipating seeing Clay in person for months.

  • Voice is still going STRONG !!!!

by TexasKess on 3/10/11Verizon Theatre At Grand Prairie - Grand PrairieRating: 4 out of 5

Clay Aiken proved that still after 8 years that he has a fantastic and strong voice. Set list consists of songs from the 50s and the 60s such as Moon River and Build Me Up Buttercup (which is always a joy to watch him perform). If you're looking for him to perform his more contermporary work from his albums, you wont get that here, however in order to have them work in the theme of his show, he has put together a jazzy medly of his hits that works very well. More personable and outgoing then I have ever seen him. Talks to the crowd, talks about the state of music today and we get a short look at Techno-Clay if his voice was done over by the studio as a lot of acts are done today. His voice is still pure and natural. BTW, no souvenier stand... The sad part was that the theater was only about half full so in the back of your mind you think about whether or not this is his last visit to this area or tour. So come on out and see him !!! He still has it !!!

This is the third time I've seen Clay and it was the best concert so far; this was a great one with the audience going wild for him. He was in rare form and I loved his rapport with his audience He was so warm and funny and of course that great voice! If I could I would go to every single concert. They are all different and I get something new every time I see him. I've been a fan since American Idol. There is just something about Clay!!!

  • Clay was Absolutely Awesome!!!

    by patty2sink on 3/8/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The stage was big enough for all band members to be seen instead of having them so far apart. Otherwise the show was wonderful.

  • CLAY IS EVEN BETTER IN PERSON

    by OAKPARK48 on 3/8/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

IT WAS SO EXCITING TO SEE CLAY IN PERSON. WE COULD SEE HIM SING, AND HIS VOISE WAS EVEN BETTER IN PERSON. HE ALSO HAS GOOD REPOR WITH THE AUDIENCE. I ENJOYED SEEING QUIANA ABOUT WHOM I HAD HEARD. SHE AND CLAY HAD GOOD DUETS. THE THEATRE WAS NICE EXCEPT FOR PARKING. THIS WAS AN EVENT I WILL NEVER FORGET. CLAY HAS A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!

  • Clay Aiken was sensational !!!!

    by abie374 on 3/8/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

My boyfriend and I enjoyed the show immensely. Two full hours. It is so rare these days to get that much fine entertainment for a solid two hours. His voice is the best voice of anyone out there performing at the current time. Not only does he have this one of a kind voice, he is quite a showman. He is so at ease on stage, placing a bit of humor at just the right moment, also playing the crowd a bit. I cannot say enough about the greatest 2 hours I have had in a very long time.

  • good voice

I forgot how much I loved Clay! Such a great show, my 90 year old grandmother even came along and can't stop talking about how much she liked it. It felt so personal, we all fell in love with him all over again after seeing the show :)

  • A different side of Clay , but great

by jenjaylu on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

I know the title was tried and true but I was hoping he would do some old stuff. That's just not who he is. His voice is much better suited to this style of music. His voice is so clear and strong. He was funny as well!

  • Clay was pure perfection

    by Grayc123456 on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Clay has matured and so has his voice. I didn't think he could get any better. The highlite was his own rendition of "Unchained Melody". His choice of songs complemented his wide vocal range. I have attended five of his concerts. All at different venues but this was my favorite. The State Theater is beautiful and warm and complimented his southern charm. I attended the performance with my 5 sisters and we are all adding meeting him to our "Bucket List".

  • Clay Aiken's concert was amazing!

by Abytan on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I thought I knew how good Clay's voice sounded, but nothing beats listening to him live. His voice is so smooth and flawless and he puts so much emotion into his singing, he gets you into a different world as you watch and listen to him. And he is very witty too. He interacted really well with the audience. I am so glad I attended the concert. Living in Singapore, it was a rare treat.

  • Clay at his best!

    by debra1128 on 3/7/11State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Clay was fantastic! In blue jeans and a sweater, often singing from a leather stool, it was a wonderful evening. I have been to four Clay concerts, and this evening Clay engaged the audience more than ever. He was smart, funny and sweet. He can't hide the teacher in him. I loved his social commentary on current music. He gave Buca credit for his great sound - the greasy pizza really lubed up his vocal cords! Could not have been better - unless he sang all night. He sang for two straight hours - does not get much better than that. I am anxiously awaiting his next visit to the Twin Cities!
