Joyful NoiseZZZZzzzzz.........
by dogtired18 on 12/3/12DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5As Raleigh-ites, we are extremely proud of our Clay.
I watched him as he rose through the ranks of Idol and brought interest to our area.
This is the first time since the show I have seen a full-length Clay concert. He had made
various appearances in the area after his runner up final.
I was very excited to see him!!! By the 3rd song, I was falling asleep. My daughter, 17, literally
had her head on my shoulder and her eyes were closed.
Clay’s voice is glorious and beautiful and strong. The songs…all Christmas songs…were very slow and mellow.
The regular Christmas songs were sung slowly. The slow Christmas songs, well, they just inched along for days it seemed.
They also had a campy, Vegas-y feel. I am sure he just wanted to showcase his awesome voice, but just went a little bit too far in his attempts.
He has a very small but intense group of followers who have seen him numerous times.
They seem to love this show. I enjoyed it, but eh, it didn’t fill me with joy and enthusiasm as a concert usually does.
Also, even though this was a Christmas show, I have never seen an artist sing not. one. single. hit.
He is adorably awkward on stage. His timing is sometimes just a nano-second off. You know,
when you think you’re supposed to clap, and he starts talking, and throws you off, so that by the time he stops,
the time to clap has passed. And speaking of talking, boy does he talk a lot. His show was a full two hours long.
I suppose half was singing and half was talking.
He also brought a “surprise” for the audience. Some girl named Keona who has be touring with him and I guess
also appeared on Idol, though I don’t remember her. She certainly didn’t seem happy to be there. She missed her cue and
we had to wait for her to make her way onto the stage, from the very back, in very high heels, and she acted like she
seemed to be doing him a favor or something. Clay. Lose the girl.
He also had a small orchestra with him who were phenomenal. Really outstanding.
If you like Clay and you like Christmas songs, Go. Enjoy. This was my first and last Clay concert. I really am glad I got
to see him at all. Checking that off my list.
