He was awesome!! It was his best show yet! Can't waut for the new cd and tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clay Aiken has been off the radar for a couple of years, but he has just recorded his new cd with his new record label, Decca. This concert was to preview the songs and it was just wonderful. Hopefully more people will soon know what his fans have known all along. He was in great voice and the concert was absolutely amazing.
This was an absolute "do not miss" experience. Clay Aiken's voice was better than it's ever been. From start to finish this was truly a "music to your soul" event. I came away feeling like I had experienced a once-in-a-lifetime event. Well worth every penny (plus some)!!!
WOW! I was blown away and everyone else watching it! Yes, Friday’s one-night concert for the PBS Special was more than SPECTACULAR & BRILLIANT! What else would we expect from Clay but the very best gift of thanks he could offer to his ever loyal & supportive fans--the best fans in the world according to himself. It was the most AMAZING night! Freaking INCREDIBLE! Freaking UNBELIEVABLE! Freaking UNFORGETTABLE! FABULOUS! FANTASTIC! There are not enough adjectives that you can think of to describe it. It's just UNDESCRIBABLE! Clay showcased his amazing talent, skills, powerful vocals, versatility, quick wit & sense of humor, really the total package of one great performer & entertainer! All the songs that he sang sound amazing! A wonderful mix of ballads & uptempo classic songs from the 50's & 60's with new fantastic arrangements that were beautifully put together & well executed. His own version of Unchained Melody alone is worth the admission ticket & so much more. His tribute to his teachers from elementary and high school singing to them the Beatles song "In My Life" were touching and inspiring. His duet of "Crying" with Linda Eder was just great! And who would have thought that until now, 7 years later, that Clay Aiken & Ruben Studdard are still the best of friends. Ruben sang wonderfully "Breaking Up is Hard To Do". The medley arrangement of some old & new pop songs were hilarious yet sang with gusto by the trio of Clay, Ruben & Quiana Parler. They've been friends since their Idol days in 2003 & seeing their great camaraderie, love & respect for each other after all these years were eye opening & awe inspiring. It was truly a great evening to remember with lots of special moments to live by! Despite all the troubles, hassles and frustrations that we encountered in going to and from Raleigh, NC, the trip was all worth it & will do it in a heartbeat again and again and again. I'm just so glad that I went & so were others, some of whom were originally not going & there was a friend who was so afraid to travel & yet had taken the risk of reaching her desinatiion for the first time in her life & she was thrilled to death and kept asking me to pinch her since she saw the highway sign "Welcome to Raleigh" as if she was dreaming only. Me, too! I'm still at a daze, seems like it was a dream & I didn't want to wake up nor want it to end.I so wanted it to continue forever & ever & never ends. It’s like we were just reborn. There’s a feeling of renewed excitement in the Clay fandom, full of great hopes for the future, for the new era of Clay’s career with the new Decca label that shows great respect for him as they believe in his amazing talent & would like him to have the huge success he truly deserves.Expect the unexpected and more surprises from this new Team Clay! Welcome Back CLAY AIKEN to Superstardom where you really belong!
My husband and I attended the concert Friday night, and were both blown away. We had watched Clay on American Idol, and had been to a few concerts when he toured, but it had been several years since we had seen him. But oh my goodness, he had only gotten better! He's matured, and so has his voice and his stage presence. I always thought he was good, so it's hard to believe he sounded even better. Ruben Studdard and Quiana Parler, both from season 2 of American Idol, were special guests, and they both looked and sounded great. Ruben did a solo of Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, and Quiana joined Clay and Ruben for a medley of pop songs rearranged in a big band style. The audience was roaring throughout! Linda Eder was also a special guest, and she is a phenomenal singer! She did a duet with Clay on Roy Orbison's "Crying" that brought the house down. The band was a great mix of saxes, trumpets, strings, and rock band that combined to cover any and every style flawlessly. The arrangements were fresh and exciting, bringing great new ideas to some wonderful songs. The ending was beyond description. Clay announced he had been singing this song all his life, and now he was glad to have his own version. Well, the song started, and other than a nice new string intro and a few little background changes, it was Unchained Melody like we've heard many times. But then, instead of the usual high note on "I neeeeeed, your love", everything stopped and he started this low note that turned into a glissando that soared to some remote key you would never expect! The crowd sat there stunned while he wailed his way through the fabulous ending, then we erupted in the sheer excitement of the moment! I can recommend this show to anyone who loves great music and great singing. It is supposed to air on PBS stations around the country in June, but perhaps may be August, so keep your eyes open for some great entertainment.
Loved the show. A real winner. If this music is from his soon to be released album, I can't wait. It will be his best to date. We really look forward now to the new album and his summer tour.
I went to see Clay Aiken and is was a very wonderful classy concert. The music was fantastic, the lighting way cool, and the voice and sense of humor of Clay Aiken is divine. I came all the way from Kansas City to see it and it was worth every hour in the car to get there. Luckily we were upgraded because of camera set ups which was a blessing in disguise. Anyone who can see him in person needs to do it ASAP because you won't be disappointed!
Can't even begin to describe what an awesome production this was. Not only is Clay's voice at its all time best but the stage production and orchestration was amazing. Nothing will stop him this time. Nothing. All in all....one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
Clay was at the top of his game Friday night at the Raleigh Memorial for the taping of his PBS special with songs from his upcoming CD "Tried and True"!! He is such a great entertainer with an amazing voice!! If you have the opportunity to see him perform live, I highly recommend going to any of his future concerts!!!
You can' t box in Clay Aiken. With Decca Records and Simon Renshaw covering his back Clay has embarked on what is easily his finest musical journey yet. Backed by a ten piece jazz band + a couple cello's and violins for effect, Clay broke out in a direction very few saw coming . But don't take my word for it, watch yourself when the concert is aired by PBS, you won't be disappointed. Big band jazz renditions of many songs you might not recognize right off the bat and a few you will. What's different is the musical take Clay gives them. And what a difference having a label that supports the work you are doing. This was a professional show with a capitol "P". Rubin was there too and did a song solo and duet with Clay and they're doing a tour later this year together. Linda Eder was there and both took Roy Orbison's Crying to new heights. The jazz band produced a magnificent full big band sound that only a voice like Clay Aiken could ride, and ride he did. The new CD - Tried and True features an array of artists that will amaze you, working with Clay on the tracks. Arrangements by Chris Walden, solos by David Sandborn & Vince Gil and duet with Linda Eder. See & hear it all on PBS or CD.
This was a most amazing concert. Clay took songs that we all know and love and made them fresh and new without losing the charm and essence fo the time from which they came. Well worth the price of the ticket- and then some.
Clay Aiken knows exactly where he is supposed to be and he shared it with us Friday night! This was the taping of a PBS special in Clay's home town. He introduced the songs from the his upcoming album, Tried and True, and we can't wait to buy the CD and see the special when it airs. This man with the incredible voice performed classic songs the way they should be enjoyed. He shared part of the stage with Ruben Studdard and Quiana Parler and the fun they had and the vocals they produced were wonderful! Everyone should check their TV listings, hopefully in June, and set the DVR so they can see this show over and over again!
If you have ever heard Clay Aiken sing, you know that he has a good voice. Well, that voice is BACK and better than ever!!! This show was amazing. It was FILMED for a PBS special to be broadcast sometime this summer. You must not miss this show when it comes on!!! The set and lighting were gorgeous. The band was EXCELLENT. Clay was beyond EXCELLENT. He debuted songs from his new CD, Tried and True, which will be released in late spring, welcomed dancers and guest singers (including his "arch rival" and good friend from American Idol days, Ruben Studdard!!!) and just blew our socks off with his incredible voice.
I just have to repeat the words I used in the title."Clay Aiken was absolutley amazing!" This was a one time concert for a taping of a PBS special. I have been to many Clay Aiken concerts, so needless to say I've always been a big fan, but I was blown away..It's been more than two years since he last toured --during that time he did two fantastic runs in Spamalot. His voice on Friday was better than ever--he's all grown up and he looked fantastic. The charisma and "it" quality are there more than ever. Most of the moments were my favorites, I hate to pick one, so here are a few.. The opening with "Mack the Knife". The moments when he talked about all the teachers through high school that had such a profound influence in his life--many were there and stood up--he than sang a tender "In my life" dedicated to them. "Suspicious minds"--a favorite of mine from one his previous tours. "Build me up Buttercup"--great fun and brought back the joy of finding Clay on AI. "Misty" was just GAH inducing. As always his snarky banter--much of which probably won't be shown on the special Many people may not like the songs from the 50's and 60's, particularly the slower ones, BUT if you do and want to hear them sung by a GREAT contemporary voice then you must be on the lookout for a Clay concert in the future. He''ll have a brief run of cncerts with Ruben Studdard in thre late summer. Ruben was on the special -- he sang one song-- and then he, Clay and the ever wonderful Quiana Parlor did a hilariious medley. Ruben sounds better than ever too. One of the many highlights of the evening was a wonderful duet of Cryin' with the awesome Linda Eder. My only regret is that I cannot find another repeat of this concert now so I can see it again. I look forward to the PBS special which will air some time this summer.
My expectations for this show were already set very high, but I was not really expecting to be blown away. OMG Clay was amazing. He owned the stage, and he owned his audience. I knew all the songs, but he made them sound like I was hearing them for the first time. The big band sound, the quality of the whole production, the arrangement of the songs, but mostly crooner Clay Aiken, blew you away! The man was singing with his whole body, not to mention his heart and soul. I love his voice, but this time he hit notes that I had never heard him hit before. The energy in the venue was off the charts. Whoever designed the set list is a genius. The songs went from belting out " Mack the Knife" to softly crooning "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You." "Suspicious Minds" blew the audience away, and "Build Me Up Buttercup" was stunning, and the audience practically erupted when he finished. This concert will be featured on PBS sometime in June. If you love good music sung and performed to perfection, be sure to watch. You will not be dissapointed.
The man is back, the voice is fine tuned and full of emotion and life. He looks wonderful, thin, hair is shorter, the suit fit the occasion and the genre'. His voice just took us all away to another place, whether is was remembering the old days or thinking of new days to come. His humor and stage presence were perfect, his compassion for his teachers and thanking them was just special and when he moved one fan from her back seats up front because she traveled so far by herself to see him shows he cares about his fans. All in all he gave us a night to remember and talk about for years to come. Not only were there Clay fans there but local people who just wanted to be entertained. He did just that!! Can not wait for the PBS special so we can relive our night with Clay. This was my first Clay concert and I will do more if he tours, he is so worth the money, time and effort.
This was a wonderful show from start to end. The lighting was spectacular and Clay's voice was phenomenal. I totally recommend watching this show when it appears on PBS in June.
This was the taping of a PBS special to be broadcast this summer durting station pledge drives. Music , classics, from the 50s and 60s with a big band sound. The staging, lighting , instrumentation was extraordinary. and that VOICE...Clay has an undeniable gift for performing and his voice is beyond compare. I do believe it is the best performance he has ever given, and I've seen quite a few! He was warm and engaging with the audience, funny, quick witted and all around fantastic...what an entertainer...what a man. He interjected special moments that he knew were fan favorites and honored those people in his life who gave him the confidence to make his journey to this moment possible. Unlike many performers, Clay LIVE is special beyond compare...no lip synching, just pure Clay, shining with those extraordinary vocals and charisma oozing from every pore of his being. Home is the stage for Clay...do not miss the opportunity to experience this for yourself!!!
Clay Aiken introduced his upcoming new album "Tried and True" in a concert performance in Raleigh, NC which was filmed for a PBS special to be broadcast this summer. He performed with a combination orchestra and band and selections included big band classics such as "Mack the Knife" and pop standards from previous tours such as "Suspicious Minds" and "Unchained Melody". He even included a complete version of "Build Me Up Buttercup" which many in the crowd remembered from American Idol and brought everyone to their feet for one of many standing ovations. Guest stars included Ruben Studdard and Linda Eder. Ruben and Clay and Miss Quiana Parlor gave the "big band" treatment to "modern classics" such as "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and "Poker Face". It was hilarious! From the ridiculous to the sublime, Linda Eder and Clay did a duet of "Crying". Their voices together were sheer perfection! Clay paid tribute to his fans and recognized one lady who rode a bus 36 hours to get there! He also recognized the teachers who made such an impact in his life and sang a heartfelt version of "In My Life" to them. The show ended with an encore of "Moon River". I'm so looking forward to the broadcast!!!
I would strongly advise anyone to get themselves to one of his concerts as soon as you can! This man totally blew this performance out of the water. His voice is even better than ever, if that's possible. I was so amazed at his vocal strength, power, and range. Totally flawless performance!
