About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

We are very delighted that we can watch our favorite artist again. Venue was cozy and although some people are without mask most are wearing it and that made me feel safe.

I've been a lifelong fan but never had the opportunity to see Christopher Cross until now. He sounds great, and his band and backup singers were also top-notch. Very good setlist, and he told some great stories in between. If you have the opportunity, go see it!

Chris played his entire first album and selected other songs including one of his very latest recordings. Most of the songs from the first LP were rearranged and were quite different from their origionals from 1980

Chris is a seasoned experienced musician and entertainer. Love his dialog with audience. Great group of musicians and singer behind him. Surprised to see he leaned toward a jazz feel, but that's OK I appreciated the talent of his players.

  • Awesome!!!

What a great evening! The venue was small and intimate. The band was remarkable. Christopher was great and clearly excited to be playing live again!

  • Chance to see one of the greatest

by Big B on 9/22/21Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

Although Chris seemed to have a little trouble on the highest notes due to his debilitating illness last year, he played all his major hits - and there were many. Would have loved to have seen more fans in the audience, but it was a football Friday night, and rainy weather... A very nice evening, and worth the 7 hour round trip.

  • Christopher Cross Concert

by Solid on 9/21/21Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

We fully enjoyed the Christopher Cross concert in Mobile, Alabama last week. He performed all his hit songs. The musicians were excellent and provided a full sound for the songs. The three female backup singers added a wonderful dimension to the songs as well. We enjoyed this 40th anniversary tour concert. The Mobile, Alabama Theatre was a very nice venue as well.

  • A wonderful, sincere effort

by Rod & Debra on 9/19/21Mars Music Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 4 out of 5

It became obvious early that COVID and the subsequent illness had taken its toll on Christopher Cross; his voice lacked the depth and range that he used to have. As he told his story of the last 18 months, we couldn't help but to fully support his comeback, and with that background, totally appreciate the effort that it took to perform. We're thrilled and blessed that we got to see his performance; his heart was fully in it, and it showed. I will say this: when he did "Think of Laura" as his encore, my wife teared up; it was beautifully and sincerely done, and we thought, his best song of the evening. I highly recommend his show, but you might adjust your expectations; he's been through a lot, and it shows.

I wasn’t too thrilled with the backup singer. They were good , but they sang a lot of what I wanted him to sing.

Great event and great venue. Love the feel and layout of Mars Music Hall. It is easy to get to, easy to get in the door, and a very comfortable facility. Looking forward to several more concerts before the end of the year.

There were sound issues, at times the singers voice was not able to be heard when he was clearly singing.
