About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

  • Christopher Cross visits Lynn

by Bubba on 10/4/21Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed the concert. He was great and I didn't realize how great a guitarist he is. All the musicians were terrific. We were disappointed however by the mix of the performance. For the first half, we could barely hear Chris singing lead. The bass was way too strong as well during this time. We were not the only ones complaining about that as we heard others sitting near us complaining as well and our seats were in the 7 th row center stage. Some adjustments were made later and it improved. Being a musician myself and playing venues of this size, I feel the corrections should have occurred much quicker by whoever was mixing. None of this however takes away from the musicianship of the performance. That was great.

  • Remarkable.

by Tony Tahiti on 10/3/21Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 5 out of 5

Voice was still beautiful. What was a really nice, enjoyable show, when he said he was 70 years old, became remarkable. They jammed a little, would have liked even more. On one song, he looked and sounded (guitar-wise) a little like David Gilmour, highest praise.

  • CC Great. Crowd not so much

    by j. c. on 10/3/21Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 4 out of 5

Christopher Cross was such a treat. His voice is as amazing as it’s always been and his supporting musicians were right on. Between sets, he told jokes and stories. The guy is fun! The only drag was the crowd. There were some rude people who thought it was okay to talk while CC was performing and talking. It was really rude and embarrassing. I’m not talking whispers either, people were having conversations. I won’t go to the Lynn Auditorium for another event. But CC rocks!

  • Pleasant evening

    by Dr J on 10/3/21Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher Cross put on a nice show playing all of the songs from his first album and many other tunes. He sounded pretty good for a 70 year old who was very ill with COVID and Guilian Barre syndrome. He told a couple of funny stories as well so we had a couple of nice belly laughs. My wife snd I had a very enjoyable evening.

  • Was okay

by Ali on 10/2/21Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 3 out of 5

I wish that he and his band had played longer than they did. I could understand if he is still healing from having had the COVID and maybe not have his full strength back. At the Count Basie Theatre, bands used to play longer that they did, that at this concert. I recognized 4 of the songs as I was 20 years younger than Christopher Cross is. At the Count Basie Theatre, I appreciated the checking for vaccine and the elevator.

  • Excellent except for the people that sat behind me and talke

  • Great Show...Fix the Mix

by BrianAptos on 10/1/21Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 4 out of 5

The show was really great but the house sound was not mixed very well. Vocals were lost in the mix. We sat in the orchestra section about 20 rows off the stage. Should have heard the sound much better than we did. But, it was still good to see him and the incredible band supporting him.

  • Happy to see Christopher Cross

by A Fan on 10/1/21Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 5 out of 5

Even though Count Basie theater has the most uncomfortable seating of any theater in the world, it was a great night out. Christopher Cross is an outstanding musician and a charming person. His music was good and his stories were good.

This was a great show by an artist who has been off my radar for a long time. Nice to see him back on stage.

  • Good Show

by JoeG on 10/1/21Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher Cross took the time to chat with the audience about his journey to stardom and recording his albums. The ensemble of artists were tight and Christopher's voice was all there, at 70..!!! I didn't know how much of an accomplished guitarist he is. Worth the time and money for sure..!!

  • Still sailing after all those years

by Lonstrum on 10/1/21Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 4 out of 5

His voice is still strong and the music was wonderful and familiar obviously. Enjoyed it.

  • A nice ensemble of musicians and good blast from the past

by Newbie on 9/30/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed this concert. Christopher Cross's voice certainly can't carry the show like he used to, but considering he had a serious case of COVID, I imagine his lungs are still recovering. We enjoyed his stories and his bandmates, as well as his backup singers. A nice venue at the Birchmere, not too large.

  • CC's 40th Anniversary Show

    by B. J. on 9/30/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Christoper Cross and his band was excellent. He did all of the great hits he has had over the past 40 years. He can still play a mean guitar.

  • Great concert!

  • Fantastic show!

by JD on 9/30/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I can't recommend this tour highly enough. He played all the hits with great enthusiasm and put on a heck of a show. Also, I had not idea what a fantastic guitar player he was! Really, really good. Don't miss it!

  • Beautifully presented.

There was an intimate connection with the audience and a real sense of warmth from Christopher Cross.
