About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

  • Top 10 concerts so far rates with the best I have been to

by Shawn on 10/16/21Brown County Music Center - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

My wife Jill and I seen Christopher Cross in a little town called Nashville Indiana. I would have driven or caught a flight to see the same concert Christopher Cross did not disappoint. What a professional at 70 years old hope he continues for another few years!

  • Worth the wait!

by Allan on 10/16/21Brown County Music Center - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

We got the tickets before the pandemic started but I've been wanting to see this concert since 1980. It was everything I had hoped for and more! I was thrilled that he played every song from the debut album since it was the 40th anniversary tour. At first I was a little disappointed that many of those songs were rearranged but they were all recognizable after a few bars and I ended up really enjoying the fresh takes on music that was (mostly) not the big hits. I really appreciated the stories and interaction with the audience. Every musician on the stage was great and I loved that Chris allowed each of them their time to shine. I brought my wife and 14 year old son with me and was concerned that they might not enjoy the show as much as I did but even before we got up from our seats to head back to the car both expressed how much they liked it and my son told us that he was going to add a couple more songs to his "favorite songs" list! The only thing that might have made it better to me is if he broke out the double guitar. This was our first time to the Brown County Music Center but it won't be the last. The venue was excellent! It is very clean and there's not a bad seat in the house, even all the way in the back row. We are people who are still very cautious about Covid and the precautions put in place made us feel comfortable. The staff was friendly from parking to Covid screening to seating and made everything easy. All around a great experience!

  • Amazing!

by Jeff R on 10/16/21Brown County Music Center - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I had tickets for this last year and was devastated to hear he got COVID-19 and canceled. We found out at the concert he was paralyzed for five months!!! He explained he was still in recovery but WAs doing his best to make the show great.....AND IT WAS!!! He played a lot of his hits and even shared some stories. Well worth the money and wait!!!

  • Great Night

Lost mics for a song, Christopher did not miss a beat. Solid performance.

  • A pleasant evening!

by Smilingone on 10/14/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

After all he's been through recently, he still puts on a good show! There were some sound issues-completely went out once, and mics were all out once, so he played his acoustic guitar and we all sang, and then the band played and we all sang. It was so nice to hear all of our favorites and then some! There was one favorite where he did not sing and let the girls sing it. That was disappointing. I think it was "All Right". The tickets were very reasonably priced for a low key, enjoyable evening!

  • Surreal Sailing in Song

    by Miss P on 10/12/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely loved Mr. Cross's performance on last Friday. Even though, he has had some serious health challenges, he gave an incredible, uplifting experience for the Birchmere audience. I was very moved and like the title of one of his songs, " Swept Away" by his set.

  • Christopher Cross and his band/singers were awesome.....

by Nancy B on 10/12/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Cross was personable, terrific on the guitar and told some stories....music was spot on....biggest issue was that the soundboard lost power to the mikes twice each time for about 10 minutes.....very distracting. Chris got out his acoustic guitar and tried to sing Sailing for us....but a few in the crowd were singing so we could not hear him...he did replay the song again later in the program. He also came out for an encore....which was great. As usual the sound board concert did start on time which I always appreciate. Great venue.

  • Classic Performance

by CT on 10/12/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher Cross was fantastic despite the two PA issues. The consummate professional to not let it phase him and continue performing. Great acoustic performance with audience participation!!

  • CC Great; Sound Board Sucks

by Maharaja on 10/12/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Concert was at Sound Board in Detroit. Performers' mikes went out TWICE during the concert. The second time during the finale, which wrecked Cross's signature tune "Ride Like the Wind." CC was great, but the mike problems wrecked the experience.

  • 40 years and still sounds great

by butter403 on 10/12/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher played for almost 2 hours. He sounded great and has an excellent band and singers. The only issue was with the Sound Board. They lost power to the microphones twice during the show. Christopher and the crowd did a nice job of singing a couple of songs unplugged. I would go see him again.

  • Sound Engineering Disappointment

by Tim on 10/12/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

Christopher Cross performance was was very enjoyable and the atmosphere was set for a wonderful evening strolling down memory lane and going back to 1980. However twice during the performance Christopher Cross mike was disabled, during key songs. Soundboards engineers blamed Christopher Cross's cross engineers. I'm not sure who to blame but it sure put a damper on the experience! :-(

  • Christopher Cross - Great Concert

by Barman on 10/12/21Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Christopher Cross on Saturday and he and his band were awesome. He sounded as good as he ever has, everyone do yourself a favor and go see him, no reason to wait. While I have always loved his music what I didn't know was how good of a guitarist he was, that alone was worth the price of admission. Kudos as well to his band members, what a talented group of musicians, like it wasn't enough to hear Christopher Cross sing his classics but to hear them all play made the night extremely enjoyable. One last thing, we had a very different experience than most because half way through the show the mics went out, being the consummate showman we were able to hear Christopher Cross sing sailing, just him, playing his guitar and a very quiet crowd softly singing along. Unbelievable experience.

  • A++

by Michele on 10/12/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see Christopher Cross for years & the Birchmere was the perfect venue to see him. It was a small, intimate setting where you can eat/drink during the show. Christopher Cross didn't disappoint. Loved every minute.

  • Bad sound set up

by Bob on 10/4/21Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red BankRating: 3 out of 5

I am sure Christopher gave it his best, but I could barely hear him. The instruments and background singers were much louder than he was.

  • He should retire!

by JoeDog on 10/4/21Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 2 out of 5

OMG my wife and I were shocked! He seemed weak or Sick. He pushed everything off to his backup singers. He probably sang for 30-45 minutes out of the whole performance! It’s sad but time to retire…

  • Christopher Cross at Lynn, MA

by Bob on 10/4/21Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 5 out of 5

I had never saw him so thin and wondered if he would still sound the same. Happy to share he sounds as awesome as ever. Now I have to stop singing his songs in my head.
