Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980. The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist. An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore. Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.
Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.
Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).
His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.
Great sound, fantastic show, loved seeing him live.
Concert was great enjoyed the music. Pulling the tickets up on my phone was a hassle, internet wouldn't load the tickets a real problem. Didn't care for wearing the mask.
1st time seeing Christopher Cross in concert. He put on a great show. Wonderful band & back-up singers. Loved his stories and happy he’s able to tour!
Fantastic music, stories, and warm vibes! The album was legend and was very well represented but I wish security had removed the drunk flailing about most the night, he may have thought he was dancing. I will see him again when he returns, if you thought of going and did not you missed out large!
C. Cross was awesome! Great Band behind him along with his back-up Singers! He has a lot of interesting stories which influences his music. Highly recommend this show and would go back to see them again. Drummer was fantastic too.
CC was fantastic! Go see this legend! Band was great too. Hope to see him again ASAP!
Would gladly give a review if didn’t have car problem enroute to show and never made it. 😢
Christopher was great, very glad he could return to the stage. The deal with Genesse Theater and Marriott were great.
Played his entire 1st record along with all the big hits. Took time to talk to audience and was very personable. Show was better than I expected it would be. Great band! Drummer in particular but all great musicians
The Genesee Theater is nice headliner and touring musical outlet. It’s in downtown Waukegan IL and has lot’s of safe and cheap parking. Originally when Christopher Cross went on sale (pre-COVID) I was after a couple memories and a reason to sneak in a date night with the Mrs. Why did I want to go? I saw him tour this album just before it took off for the stratosphere as a warmup for Fleetwood Mac (I think) @ the Rosemont Horizon circa ‘79. Christopher Cross was a part of this treasure trove of awesome studio musicians that existed at the time and with his musical family right there on stage with him, (probably thinking they may have only a few gigs to prove themselves) took full advantage of the situation, strapped on the double neck guitars and they blew us away for 45 minutes and then they split, leaving us wanting for more… as it should be. Fast forward 41 years… The show was postponed twice due to Covid and I took advantage of the offer at one point for a refund on the tickets. Thank you Artist and Ticketmaster. So, I was fed up with the whole thing and wasn’t going. But I still get emails telling me what’s going on so, at the last minute I asked the Mrs. for a date, bought new tickets and went to the show. ————————— We were happy we went and we had a good time. He needed someone to fill in for Michael McDonald on those 3 songs he’s on, that was really missing, and the back up singers were Ok just OK. Context: Christopher got a complication after contracting COVID-19. He ended up with paralysis, couldn’t walk or play the guitar… I mean this guy must have been so depressed. He had intense therapy… Anyway, he’s getting better and the road must be therapeutic for him too. So Overall, the show was like a 6 out of 10… but considering the circumstances I am happy he’s alive, and performing what must feel like a final tour of sorts. I wish some of those original guys and gals could have joined him on this tour but whatever. So check him out if you are old like me, or like “Yacht Rock”, or you can also see him on tour with Ringo Starrs All-Star Band!
Awesome Performance from our 80’s Idol Christopher Cross. The staff were friendly and helpful and the venue was clean.
I was front row center and he was standing right in front of me. I as well as anyone else I talked to really enjoyed the show. We had purchased our tickets back in 2019 and was very sad to hear Chris had become sick. We always held on to our tickets. With tons of Good thoughts and Prayers on a daily basis. We were always sure he would return to do a show for us. Thank God our prayers were answered. The show was totally worth the wait. We Love you Chris!
You either love Christopher Cross or you don't . My only regret is not being prepared to get a pic of troupe's bow !
Concert was great! Christopher Cross sang his heart out!! The theater is inreal, its so beautiful!@
Christopher Cross concert was awesome. His voice was wonderful. Backup singers voices were beautiful. Band was fantastic. Love the Genesee venue; classic and elegant.
Christopher Cross still has a great voice (to his fans) but he insists on his band playing too loud for his voice and style. We saw him in a small venue (City Winery) and he blasted us out of there too. I even asked the sound guy about it and he said "he likes it loud" After this latest experience in a larger venue that should be able to handle his love of loud but didn't, I think I'm over buying tickets for his shows unless it's acoustic or one or two people accompanying him. He sounds great when it's him and his guitar, or Just Him. At least, turn down the band and turn UP your microphone. I'm a big fan but I can't take it anymore.
It felt like home! Fun stories by Christopher C. and, of course, great performance.
Concert was great, started on time no breaks! He sounds the same and his babs was spoy on. Lots of empty seats, disappointed we couldn't have gotten closer.
Great venue with free and easy onsite parking - be certain to arrive early to secure a spot. If you're considering a vitist to the charming town of Nashville, several resorts provide shuttle services to the music center. This smaller venue offers a more intimate setting. Great acousitics and stage sight lines from all seats. While not a place for a Stones concert, it was perfect for an evening with Christopher Cross!
Awesome concert Christopher cross is a gift to music. He told some personal stories in between songs
