About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

  • I could hardly hear him sing

by Chris Cross on 8/23/22The Riviera Theater - CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

His first was ride like the wind. He hardly sang a word of it ... his three backup singers sang 95% of all lyrics. And then on all other songs the vocals volume was way too low. The music over powered the vocals way too much. They few times I could hear him ... he did sound good.

  • Great show at a great venue.

Christopher Cross played all the hits. Enjoyed the show. His band is great.

  • 40 Year Wait Was Worth It

by Borderer on 8/23/22The Riviera Theater - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Having been a fan of Christopher Cross since the very early 80’s I was excited to finally see him in concert and a forty year wait. First of all the venue in Charleston was a great little venue and made the concert a lot more intimate so to speak and you were close to the action so to speak. If you get a chance to see an event at the Riviera Theatre in Charleston, go you’ll enjoy it. The performance by Christopher and his band to me was excellent and didn’t fail on my expectations for the evening. He engaged with the audience with interesting and humors stories as a background to some of the songs. For me it was a great night and a five star review and thanks Christopher for putting on an entertaining evening.

  • Christopher Cross

by Diana on 8/23/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

From beginning to end, an awesome experience! The venue was quaint, and full of character. The concert was one of the best I have ever attended. Christopher Cross, his back-up singers and musicians were all exceptional! I will always remember the way this concert made me feel.

  • An evening with Christopher Cross

by Susan on 8/22/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

41 years and 4 days from when I first saw Christopher Cross was more than I dreamed it would be!!! He brought the house down with Ride like the wind and brought chills with Think of Laura. The Fillmore was an amazing place!!!

  • Sailing

by Hendi on 8/22/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

Somewhat disappointed. CHRIS relied heavily on the girls, his voice seemed weak. Guitar and other instrument playing, very enjoyable. Dedicated proceeds to healthcare workers, i thought was nice.

  • FANTASTIC concert!

by kelgdn on 8/22/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Can't tell you how truly fantastic this concert was - Christopher Cross' voice still sounds great and he had a superb backup band - he played every song from his first album, several from his second album, and a couple new ones too. Loved every minute of it and if there were more dates closer to us, we'd be going again!

  • Amazing concert

    by C577 on 8/22/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Very impressed with the quality of the musicians. The show and the songs chosen were all top notch. Clearly shows they enjoy it and it’s contagious

  • Performer was great, venue... not so much.

by Down Front on 8/22/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 1 out of 5

The concert venue was the issue for the rating. Text to park, electronic tickets, and no cash accepted at the bar may be good for a portion of customers. However, all of these management choices represented obstacles to enjoying the experience. I actually left halfway through the show, the first time I've ever done that. Use tried and true methods of venue management; they may not be as "cool," but they work.

  • Meh

by Kevin S on 8/20/22Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

Wasn’t in his best voice. Wasn’t aware of his health problems until the concert. Had major problems hitting notes and sustaining them. Orchestration and backup singers extra loud seemingly to cover for his lack of solo vocals. Band was phenomenal.

  • Great concert!

  • Christopher Cross Was Awesome!

by Matt on 8/20/22Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher Cross played all of his hits and a lot more. He told us the story of the frightening experience post COVID and how he was wheel chair bound for 6 months. And his father's story. His singing and guitar playing was brilliant and he had a stellar back up band. 3 talented French musicians and 3 back up singers who were amazing. I will definitely catch his next show when he's in town!

  • Great Night

Played for about 90 mins. My wife and I had a blast. He’s still bringing it after all these years. Great time.

Christopher Cross and his band/backup singers were fabulous. A 40 year history of his yacht rock hits. If he’s comimg to a town near you, don’t miss it!

  • Stuck between the Moon & NYC

by Soman on 8/14/22The Walker Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 4 out of 5

Walker Theater venue was a nice and intimate, as I was 7 rows from stage. Interesting to hear from the artist about his near death COVID experience. I guess that and 40 years have understandably taken the shine off his performance capabilities. The background singers and band out drowned much of Christopher's vocals on most songs. He did redeem himself on the very last song with an unaccompanied Acapella solo of 'Laura'. At least that proved he still has that voice down deep. Was impressed with his electric guitar playing capabilities. All in all half the songs were the popular great hits and the others were just fillers. I guess if you get stuck between the moon and New York City the best you can do is be impressed with half of a performance.

  • Amazing

by Tennessee - River Jill on 8/13/22The Walker Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 5 out of 5

Venue is small and more intimate than most. Christopher Cross, the band, and back up singers were amazing. Loved every minute!
