About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

  • Disappointing Rearrangement

by Michael on 8/31/22The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 1 out of 5

Chris rearranged almost all of his award winning numbers with backup singers and a sax which, in my opinion, made them to slow and overly sweet. Think Kenny G plays Christopher Cross. Michael McDonald is sorely missed. In the two songs did not use the backup singers and sax, those songs showed promise. Some seemed to enjoy the new arrangement but It was not faithful to his first album we know and love. Loose the very upfront backup singers and sax, find a suitable Michael McDonald replacement and play your Grammy Award winning tunes as you originally crafted them. That’s why they won Grammy’s. Chris still has a good set of pipes and handles his guitar with skill, this seemed to be an artistic choice. I would have probably preferred to hear him do an unplugged version, just him and his guitar, rather than his present offering.

  • He showed up!

by Dan Yell Cas on 8/30/22The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

No opener, Christopher Cross from beginning to end. Played all the feel good signs you know and love plus many more. Great back-up singers and talented band. Not to mention his own guitar skills for all but one song, the last song, his encore song. I didn’t expect his voice to be so on point but he definitely showed up and gave us a show for sure. Love him and would see again especially given the ticket prices were what I consider to be affordable (for the 8th row). We love CC!

  • Turning back the clock

by Harry on 8/30/22The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

The band sounded great ,the smaller venue suited them fine.... chris's banter and storytelling added a personal touch...you almost forget how his hits were... loved it... much thanx to Christopher Cross...

  • Pristine Sound

by Missy on 8/29/22Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center (HMAC) Capitol Room - HarrisburgRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to over 100 concerts in my life and I have never heard one sound as pristine as this show. Usually there's too much bass or something but not this show it was crisp and clean.

  • Sailing…again!

by Greg on 8/29/22Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center (HMAC) Capitol Room - HarrisburgRating: 5 out of 5

For having had Covid and Guillian Barre is was a spectacular show. I could tell he’s not back to 100% but he was genuine and seemed quite happy to be performing again. He sang 105 min. straight! Glad I got to see him again!

  • Great show!

by ClemmieGirl on 8/29/22Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center (HMAC) Capitol Room - HarrisburgRating: 5 out of 5

Not any of that glitz/glamor like some other shows, but he and his band provided such a cool vibe. Christopher is a great musician, and he brought along other very talented musicians (particularly the keyboard player IMO) -- and, of course, the songs are still great!

  • One of the best shows I've seen

by Sandra Mayers on 8/29/22Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center (HMAC) Capitol Room - HarrisburgRating: 5 out of 5

I was so impressed with how this tour was put together. You can tell a lot of thought went into the details. The musicians and vocalists were top-level talent and you could tell they had a blast playing together which made it a really special performance. This was in a smaller intimate venue and I think that added to the appeal. Christopher Cross was great to see live and I enjoyed singing all the favorites with a room full of fans. This was a musician's show and if you have a love of music, it is a must see when it comes near you! I am still thinking about this night.

  • Still Riding Like the Wind After Forty Years

by Klytus on 8/29/22Rating: 4 out of 5

I had seen Christopher Cross perform in 2012 in Morristown, New Jersey but it was a surprise appearance at a concert called Sail Rock which featured several different seventies bands and singers. Cross only performed "Ride Like the Wind", but I was very impressed by what I had seen and hoped for an opportunity to see him perform live. Thankfully I did get that opportunity at one of my favorite venues, The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. It was great to finally see a full concert from one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. I had grown up listening to his excellent music (I asked my mother to buy me the 45 of "Arthur's Theme" and I listened to it an infinite number of times. I could not get enough of it.). To see Christopher Cross performing the great songs I could not get enough of live made me enjoy the songs even more. Christopher Cross put every effort into delivering the best performance he possibly could. His effort and his love for his fans clearly showed in every song he performed. He also had the added benefit of being supported by a terrific backup band. The Musicians and backup singers were nothing short of terrific. They all showed by their considerable talent and you can tell by just looking at them that they were having just as great a time as me and me fellow audience members. The concert was a great experience from start to finish. A great performance by not just a great singer/songwriter, but a great person.

  • Christopher Cross Concert-Loved it!!!!!

by D on 8/25/22Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

What a great concert. Christopher Cross is such a talented musician and singer and he surrounded himself with such an equally talented group of musicians and back up singers. The venue was so cozy and the acoustics were fantastic. Really enjoy this show. Christopher Cross still has it!!!!

  • Great Night with Christopher Cross

Loved everything about the night - the venue, the intimacy and the Legendary Christopher Cross!

  • All Right

by Sparky on 8/25/22Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

This is the third time we've seen Christopher Cross, and he delivered again. His three female backup singers were excellent, but in the first few numbers, it seemed as if they were going to sing many of his vocals. But that didn't happen. The musicians were excellent. We're curious how he ended up with two band members from Paris, France. The food at the Birchmere is always good and the servers are always attentive and friendly. But the open seating scheme at the Birchmere makes it necessary to arrive hours early to get decent seats. We would prefer to pay a premium for better seats.

  • Great show but pain at the wallet

by Steve A on 8/24/22The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show. Christopher Cross was excellent but I could do without the $20 drinks. Seriously?

  • Voice

by Hiko on 8/24/22Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

I was kind of disappointed not hear Christopher’s voice well, but dram and three ladies. I invited a friend who didn’t know Christopher Cross. She only recognized Arthur’s Theme.

  • Great venue with awesome food, drinks and seating.

by Kathy on 8/24/22Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

We arrived early because we wanted to order dinner. We sat at a front table and ordered food and beverages. Our waitress was attentive and Christopher Cross did not disappoint! Loved the whole experience!

  • A Great Trip Back in Time!

by Shooshan on 8/24/22The Riviera Theater - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Interesting venue and sound quality was good. Christopher Cross is an amazing artist and the band and backup singers are incredibly talented. Played all his hits and a number of other well-executed selections. Thanks for a wonderful evening!

  • Music too loud

by Linellpb on 8/24/22Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

Not enough of his old favorites, and the band overpowered his voice for much of the concert.

  • Entertaining

Wonderful to see Christopher Cross performing again & he sounds great!!

  • Awesome show

by Tjones on 8/23/22The Riviera Theater - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 2nd time I’ve seen Christopher Cross and it was equally amazing. Different type of show. Last time he was more of a solo storyteller, it was amazing. This time the band made the experience with Christopher Cross even more awesome. I hope to see him perform in concert again and not 10 years apart.
