About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

  • Still a Master!

Such a wonderful night with my husband of 37 years and longtime dear friends sharing the sing-along songs of joy of our young adulthood! Christopher Cross still has the same beautifully lyrical voice and humble manner. Adding jazz musicians, and talented backup singers, was an added perk - such talent!

  • Love having the stars at Opera House

Thanks for bringing the favorites to Lexington Opera House! I love seeing the artists in a smaller setting - it seems and feels more intimate. The music and story telling is personal. Watching the band members perform is fabulous. Christopher Cross and team delivered a phenomenal performance! I often think many other performers should choose this setting (even if tickets were more expensive) because of the amazing setting and experience for their fans.

  • Cross “sailed” through Lexington

    by Lba1968 on 9/18/22Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a fabulous concert. I really enjoyed the stories he told throughout the 90 minute concert. I was a little surprised that his three back up singers sang most of the lyrics but understandably he’s 71 and unable to hit some notes. He still sounded great and for the encore he came back to sing “Think of Laura” from start to finish all by himself. I have to say the band was absolutely incredible. The two keyboardist are so talented and Suzuki is just amazing on the winds.

  • Still great after all these years!

by Bruce W. on 9/18/22Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

After a career that has spanned 40 years, Christopher Cross and his music are still the best. His concert is packed with all his hits along with many songs not as familiar. Back up singers and band are spectacular.

The Christopher Cross concert was awesome. The sound system was great and it was one of my favorite more intimate type concerts. I’d come see him again.

  • Drowned Out

by Cathy on 9/14/22Flagstar Strand Theatre for the Performing Arts - PontiacRating: 3 out of 5

The band was great but they were so loud you could not hear Christopher Cross singing!! Not sure what or who was at fault but it was impossible to hear his singing.....

  • Better than I imagined

by John L. on 9/14/22Flagstar Strand Theatre for the Performing Arts - PontiacRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher and his band blew us away with their level of talent, stage presence, and crowd interaction in an intimate venue. His story telling about how songs came to be, the way the band built in small solos for each instrument during many songs, and the way he ended the show (no spoilers!) really capped off a trip down memory lane and a truly enjoyable show!

  • Christopher Cross

by DH on 9/13/22Aura - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the opening band was fabulous (Don Campbell Band) and Christopher Cross was very good but he was hard to hear. His voice did not seem quite strong enough to get over the instrumentals. That was the only downside of it all.

  • Christopher Cross / Don Campbell

  • Terrible

by Jpie on 8/31/22NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

Terrible because even though I had a second row seat my view was obstructed by the theater’s equipment. I could only see the Christopher Cross above his guitar. I paid $350.
