Picture this: The year is 1962 and C.S. Lewis, the famous British author, is in the twilight years of his life. He is hosting a group of American writers at his home just outside of Oxford. They have come to hear him speak about the significant events and the people that shaped his life — this is Christmas With C.S. Lewis. This intimate portrayal allows audiences to spend an enthralling evening with the late author whose books have become a staple in millions of lives. There’s no better way to feel the holiday cheer than spending a warm evening with the author of the iconic Narnia Chronicles and other legendary written works.
To connect with Christmas With C.S. Lewis:
Excellent play. Would enjoy seeing it again with the English gentleman!
Our family appreciates the theological wisdom passed along by CS Lewis. This one man production was insightful as to his personal life, detailed yet whimsical, and gently interspersed with a little of his testimony. The Christian faith is still benefiting from the genius of CS Lewis!
Enjoyed the venue. Did need an elevator. The actor was not a realistic Lewis. Delivered lines, but without conviction. I never felt I was there with Lewis, always aware it was a play, not a meeting with friends. Love anything Lewis. That is what brought me there.
Throughly enjoyable, quiet stroll through a little bit of history about Christmas, England and C.S. Lewis.
Mr. Payne was very captivating and entertaining! Kept my attention the entire performance! What a great relaxing evening leading up to Christmas! (However the balcony seats at The Lyric are extremely tight and uncomfortable!)
Cs lewis ok but the venue balcony seat were awful. Unless you are the size of a football p year old you will be so cramped it will make even the best show uncomfortable and no good. .
Thoroughly enjoyed the show and Daniel Payne’s performance. The dialogue was more personal than theological and glossed over some items , like his conversion. Would have liked to have heard more about this, but he shared several contemplative stories that made the performance grand.
My husband & I didn't know what to expect. Mr. Payne was excellent!! The show was funny and heart warming. If you have a chance to see Daniel Payne perform - don't miss it!!
Our entire family loved this presentation! We brought our 17 & 14 year old sons who are Narnia fans and they loved it also! I have read biographies about C.S. Lewis so I cannot say I learned much that was new. This performance felt like he was really talking to you personally. At one point, I literally believed I was with C.S. Lewis! It was also very historical and my children learned so much.
Excellent. Enjoyed the one man show. Would recommend!
The venue is cold and clumsy. The seating arrangement is like a middle school graduation. The acoustics are also bad. Save the venue for a company party or convention reception and not a one person play. The show started late and the actor lacked any real energy or enthusiasm.
This was an outstanding show. Mr. Payne played an exceptional CS Lewis. I like the way he interacted with the audience and seamlessly covered so many areas of Jack’s life. We really enjoyed it and hope to see it again.
The actor did a wonderful job as the only actor in the whole okay. I very much enjoyed his performance.
We really enjoyed the show. It’s amazing how he was able to recite all the monologue for 1 1/2 hours!!
This show was so much better than I thought it would be! The speaker was very captivating! Would recommend to anyone!
Overall, it was a good show. I had expected more emphasis on Lewis' faith so I was a little disappointed that it was not covered in more detail. However, the actor who portrayed CS Lewis was good. It felt like it was the Evening with CS Lewis with some minor Christmas details thrown in. To me, the description was misleading. That being said, I enjoyed the night but not sure I would see it again. When I bought the tickets, I was under the impression it was at the Greensboro Coliseum. I didn't realize that it was at the Odeon Theater which is part of the Coliseum complex. Thankfully when we paid for parking the attendant was very specific so we went to the correct parking area. The theater itself was nice but it would benefit from some upgrades. Maybe more comfortable seating and a larger leg space. The staff there were extremely helpful and made the experience even more enjoyable. I would go to this facility again with no issues.
The theater is intimate and the performance was incredible. He made you feel like you were having a conversation with a relative. He gave a great insight into what what CS Lewis might have really been like.
I’m a big fan of C.S.Lewis, however it wasn’t what I expected. Wonderful cozy venue, professional and courteous staff. Just fell flat for me and our party.
This is a terrific show. We really enjoyed the presentation. It was great to gain insights into CS Lewis (Jack) and his family and some knowledge about Britain in the 60s. Would definitely go again!
