About

CHRIS BOTTI IN CONCERT:

Trumpet virtuoso Chris Botti has made a lasting impression on his audiences ever since his first touring gig with Frank Sinatra in the '80s. The trumpeter's style and grace can't be matched as he fills the room with the sounds of his 1939 Handcraft brass trumpet, spellbinding audiences with the instrument's rich tones. The Grammy Award winner has played with a number of legendary artists including Sting and Andrea Bocelli, captivating audiences with signature hits like "Regroovable" alongside classics like "Ave Maria." Chris Botti never fails to disappoint, and he's sure to take fans on a musical journey they won't soon forget with his string of 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Influenced by his mother's musical background, Chris Botti began playing the trumpet at age nine, but it wasn't until he heard the classic Miles Davis track "My Funny Valentine" several years later that he decided to pursue a career in music. During his senior year at Indiana University, Botti toured with Frank Sinatra, which led to a number of gigs with famous artists like Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole. Since then, he's released ten studio albums — seven have reached Top 10 spots on the Billboard Jazz chart — and sold three million records. He's also been the host of the radio show Chill With Chris Botti and performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra alongside John Mayer, Josh Groban, and Yo-Yo Ma. Back on the road in 2014, the trumpet virtuoso is set to captivate fans on his highly anticipated world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Chris Botti and his group are the best of the best in the arena of ultra-talented musicians. Of course the handsome man with the horn never lets his audience down. Even though he performs 300 days a year, he gives the audience his all as though it's one show just for them."

"Not only does Chris Botti shine with his talents, he has top notch musicians and a singer to make it an overall outstanding, entertaining evening. ...will definitely try to see the next show!"

"Chris Botti was charming in relating to the audience, and put on a spectacular display of musicianship. He's one of, if not the best, at his craft."

  • Botti was brilliant, but lofty.

by Streetcar on 10/4/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

There is no question about the talent about the members of this musical group, but it's not always about talent. The production matters, too. I guess I was spoiled a few weeks ago when I attended the Dave Koz / Brian Culbertson show. They did more than bring their mucisal talent to the stage, they put together a production that kept the audience sizzling from beginning to end. Botti et al seemed at times to have the mindset that it was a privilege for the audience to be in the presence of such highly aclaimed musicians. I must say, I did enjoy Botti's stories and narratives between songs. He is a gifted speaker as well as a musical virtuoso. I was a bit annoyed with the lead guitar player who felt it his duty to point out to the audience when they needed to applaud after each of his co-band members finished their segments of a jam. I would think they are professional enough not to need the constant reinforcement. Can't we just get over this tired ritual anyway. The audience members paid their money; let them applaud if and when they feel like it.

  • Chris Botti very personable

It seemed a little short. I would appreciate more songs.

I've been a fan of Chris for years, but this was my first time attending one of his concerts, it exceeded my expectations by far, it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended...

  • Chris Botti is amazing and talented

by BooRiley2 on 10/3/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was great for many reasons. He brings the audience in by his warm genuine conversation and music. You feel you are in his home and you are his guest. I was very impressed that he was available for autographs after the show and was very friendly. It seems most stars are out of touch with the people that buy thier music. I took a friend who is not a jazz person and has never heard his music. She could not stop talking about how great the event was. I will continue to buy his music and go to his concerts. It was fabulous!!!!

  • Botti is HOT

by MsDelMar on 10/3/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

My 5th time to see Chris Botti perform and, as usual, he was great! His entire band was awsome as well, many highlighted solos for each member; they are all excellent musicians. Ms. Campbell(?) the violinist.....wow....what a treat, such added beauty to the songs. Humphreys venue with palm trees, boat masts and a full moon. The night was just wonderful with friends. Thank you Chris Botti, love your music, talent, showmanship and ability to pick great band members.

  • Botti is the new Miles

Excellent musicianship, excellent band, perfect execution.

  • Botti is an amazing showman

by Chakafrak on 10/3/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Wow. Listening to Botti's music, I expected a mellow evening of dreamy jazz trumpet. He pulled out all the stops from opening to close. He even had 3(!) guest stars- a vocalist, an amazing violinist and a Guggenheim award winning pianist. Lots of interaction with the crowd with info and backstory on the songs and his life. All fascinating. Every band member was introduced with clear professional admiration by Botti and they all lived up to an incredible standard of musicianship. I've seen half a dozen acts at Humphrey's and I have an ongoing complaint about the level of bass that is produced on stage. I think that it's because they are up on a raised wood stage and the structure amplifies the bass beyond what they normally produce in concert. Well the music gods smiled last night because the bass monitor blew out. The stage crew unplugged it and the bass was at a well-mixed level for the first time that I've attended Humphrey's. (I've mentioned my observation to Humphrey's, but they say the band is in charge of the mix and there's nothing they can do about the overload of bass. My only complaint about Humphrey's.)

  • Botti stole my heart again.

Chris Botti was phenomenal with his band of regulars and guests. He has the most talented drummer on the planet, even loosing a stick. Billy Kilson is an out-of-body experience beyond compare. Sy Smith has a voice that is like an instrument in her throat, Gods gifts are awesome. Guitarist unbelievable fingers, Bass without a doubt fine. Pianoist legend beyond anyone of his kind. Lucia wasnt there due to injuries to her hand and her friend was just as talented in her devue with Botti, sorry didnt catch her name. Love seeing him everytime and would recommend seeing him in any venue. His personality is delightful and funny and you are captured by someone that has many gifts. and he is friends with Sting. LOL Gotta love that.

My wife and I were on vacation in California and were fortunate to be able to get tickets for this concert. We don't have concerts like this where we are from. We have watched Chris's DVDs, but it was great to see him and the guys in action!

  • Chris Botti is amazing!

by Angelmarie on 10/3/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Chris Botti has an amazing gift. We weren't very familiar with his music, until recently seeing him on a PBS special. We certainly are now. He and his band play any style of music with such ease and perfection. My husband and I enjoyed how he showcased each member of the band, allowing them to entertain to the crowd's delight. Chris is very articulate and humerous as he shares some of his experiences in between songs. Beautiful weather with a crystal clear, star-studded sky, made the evening a most enjoyable and memorable time.

My daughter and I attend Chris Botti and band's concerts when they are in town, or performs near our area. Chris and his band are all very talented performers/musicians. His concerts are far from cookie cutter, and are more relaxed yet classy! I will forever be a fan!
