CHRIS BOTTI IN CONCERT:

Trumpet virtuoso Chris Botti has made a lasting impression on his audiences ever since his first touring gig with Frank Sinatra in the '80s. The trumpeter's style and grace can't be matched as he fills the room with the sounds of his 1939 Handcraft brass trumpet, spellbinding audiences with the instrument's rich tones. The Grammy Award winner has played with a number of legendary artists including Sting and Andrea Bocelli, captivating audiences with signature hits like "Regroovable" alongside classics like "Ave Maria." Chris Botti never fails to disappoint, and he's sure to take fans on a musical journey they won't soon forget with his string of 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Influenced by his mother's musical background, Chris Botti began playing the trumpet at age nine, but it wasn't until he heard the classic Miles Davis track "My Funny Valentine" several years later that he decided to pursue a career in music. During his senior year at Indiana University, Botti toured with Frank Sinatra, which led to a number of gigs with famous artists like Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole. Since then, he's released ten studio albums — seven have reached Top 10 spots on the Billboard Jazz chart — and sold three million records. He's also been the host of the radio show Chill With Chris Botti and performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra alongside John Mayer, Josh Groban, and Yo-Yo Ma. Back on the road in 2014, the trumpet virtuoso is set to captivate fans on his highly anticipated world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Chris Botti and his group are the best of the best in the arena of ultra-talented musicians. Of course the handsome man with the horn never lets his audience down. Even though he performs 300 days a year, he gives the audience his all as though it's one show just for them."

"Not only does Chris Botti shine with his talents, he has top notch musicians and a singer to make it an overall outstanding, entertaining evening. ...will definitely try to see the next show!"

"Chris Botti was charming in relating to the audience, and put on a spectacular display of musicianship. He's one of, if not the best, at his craft."

Not only is Chris Botti a gifted and talented musician he loves what he does and it shows. I attended the performance on June 6 in Monterey and had to come back for more! I like how he gives time and credit to each member in his band, who are each very accomplished. Moreover his on stage poise, easy manner and down- to- earth way of speaking envelops the audience with warmth and a certain connective feeling. My three guests were very impressed. Can't wait for a return performance - sign me up!

  • Unquestionably, the BEST at Montalvo this season.

by JazzLuvinMan on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Without a doubt, Chris Botti, his remarkable band and guests were the best show I experienced at Villa Montalvo this year. The BEST. That is not taking anything away from Boney James and Fourplay or David Benoit or any of the others. He was just far and away much more enjoyable. More eclectic.... more engaging.... better sounding..... etc., etc. And this is in spite of the fact that it was Cold (with a capital C!). Seriously, when's the last time you went to a jazz concert and the artist opened up with a solo rendition of Ave Maria? From that first perfect pitch, highly recognizable note to the in-the-audience, sans amplification, Frank Sinatra good night tune, sweetness personified.

  • Chris Botti at Montalvo

by Saratogan on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Chris always puts on an excellent show. Find myself with a smile on my face all evening enjoying each moment. I appreciates how Chris gives every person in his band their due. He had 3 special guest apprearances, including David Benoit. The audience came off their seats in appreciation. We greatly enjoyed the insightful stories of his life, including starting his career by playing with Frank Sinatra. He stayed after the concert to sign CD's. Chris has supported Montalvo Arts Center for 10 years. I'm so thankful he still visits.

  • Botti was awesome

by Trench on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Under a clear, cold night, we listened to one of today's best bands play their hearts out. We loved the music, the venue, and the overall experience. The only reason this didn't get a fifth star is that the venue did not offer warm drinks or any relief from the cold air. This was a missed opportunity.

It was a rather cold but spectacular full moon night at the Montalvo to see and hear the special talents of Chris Botti and his accomplished band members, especially on piano Billy Childs. Chris speaks and plays with affable charm and wit. Bravo Chris and I can't wait to see you again. Many Thanks for a very memorable night!

Fantastic show with lots of guests and amazing musicians. Chris connects to the audience and makes them want more. I also liked the fact that this show was over two hours with no breaks.

  • Chris Botti was unbelieveable!

by Cruly on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Chris Botti 3 times in the past 5 years. Each time he is more amazing than the last. He has such a loyalty to his band and enjoys listening to them play as much as we do. I love the way he jokes around with his band and audience. I have been to many concerts in my years and I don't think I can remember enjoying and entertainer as much as Chris. The interaction between he and his audience is such an added bonus for us watching. He seems to be an amazing human being. The concert isn't all about him it's about giving his audience a memorable and enjoyable evening. We weren't able to stay after the show which from the moment we left the parking lot have been regretting. I will search the internet to check all venues he will be performing and make arrangements to attend in CA. The venue at Montalvo made the evening perfect. Although the weather was a little chilly, but as some as the music started all was forgotten. The beautiful music and clear skies would transform you to another place a place you never want to leave. P.S. I would love to take him home with me!

  • Cold Play

by BuddhaVP on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

As always Chris Botti is the coolest man on any stage. His group is the best I've ever seen and the music is great. However, neither the Ticketmaster process nor the Montalvo web-site prepared us for the fact that this concert was being performed outside in 50 degree weather!! Ouch. At least we had jackets. Others showed up in short sleeves. Oughta be a law. The performance does deserve 5, but they should be icicles instead of stars...

  • Wow!

by rrrscr on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Fine performance. Similar program to SF Symphony this summer. More intimate setting and closer to the artists. HIs band is outstanding. He is a real charmer. RRR

  • Botti concert pushes back the Cold

    by pp6164 on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Although the show started almost 30 minutes late and it was ice cold Chris Botti rallied the crowd with solid music, guest performances and humor. The concert showcased much of his newer work and the crowd was pleased. Throughout the show he focused on the members of his band in numbers demonstrating what Chris called the best band in the business. Botti brought out several guest contributors during the show, A stand in violin player from Palo Alto wowed the crowd and the cousin of the lead guitar player carried smooth vocals during several tunes. Finally they brought out David Benoit to play a song and he lit up the place nailing the keyboards.

  • Great, but why start late?

by ZippysDad on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Chris was fantastic -- and his band is phenomenal too. He played a great selection of tunes, had wonderful guest stars (including a cameo from David Benoit!) and interacted with the audience in a friendly and informal way. The bad news is that Montalvo started this "7 pm" concert at 7:30 -- leaving us to sit, fuming, in the cold (50 degrees, which may not sound bad but for us wimpy Californians is torture!) hearing nothing. By the end of the 100-minute set, my wife was shivering -- despite wearing a heavy jacket and gloves and sitting under a blanket (the stadium-style seats do suck the heat out of you). And, as it was a Sunday night, the lateness took 30 minutes out of our prep for the workweek and sleep for the night. C'mon, Montalvo! Next time you have a 7:30 concert, put "7:30" on the tickets -- will avoid the above pain, rushing through dinner to get to a non-existent start time, etc.

  • Performance and guest violinist were amazing

by bykndyv on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Concert was great but weather took a bit out of it as it was cold. Botti, his band and his guests were very personable and very entertaining. Very nice venue. Disappointed in the crowd coming in late and leaving 3 pieces early just to catch the bus. Weak and rude!

  • Chris Botti was Charming.

by ToothDoctor on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Chris Botti and his band were warm and friendly despite the arctic climate. They play as a well developed family and had great respect for each other's individual talents which which were nicely showcased. That said, Chris had his predictible amazing sound and his friendliness and familiarity with the audience was greately appreciated. The concert was a lot of fun.

  • Amazing Musicians

by Lurb on 10/5/09Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

On top of being excellent musicians, each person was full of personality and displayed a real love for playing their instrument. Chris was very good at showcasing the talents of the members of his band. Very inclusive. The audience was with him during the entire performance.

  • Chris Botti at the Midland

by Kat777 on 10/4/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing concert! Chris Botti is an outstanding musician and plays with an incredibly talented group.

  • Chris Botti delivers!

by KarenMcF on 10/4/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Chris always puts on a good show. My only complaint is I'd like more Botti, more of the time. The drum and lead guitar solos, although great, go on way too long. Humpreys is a fantastic outdoor venue.

  • Amazing

As an old horn player, I thought this performance was amazing & exciting to hear such a clear tone & improves that sure beat the old trumpeters. I liked all the musicians that performed with Chris & wish them the best in their careers.

very entertaining, a great mix of styles and ranges. i missed lucia, but her replacement was fantastic.

  • excellent talent he has

by ZS65 on 10/4/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

We both really enjoyed hearing Chris Botti playing his songs with just the piano music. We thought the drummer; although being very good was a bit loud and somewhat drowned out Chris's playing. His band is ok but we really came to see his talent and beautiful music. The violinist was amazingly talented too. We will return for other musicians in the future.
