CHRIS BOTTI IN CONCERT:

Trumpet virtuoso Chris Botti has made a lasting impression on his audiences ever since his first touring gig with Frank Sinatra in the '80s. The trumpeter's style and grace can't be matched as he fills the room with the sounds of his 1939 Handcraft brass trumpet, spellbinding audiences with the instrument's rich tones. The Grammy Award winner has played with a number of legendary artists including Sting and Andrea Bocelli, captivating audiences with signature hits like "Regroovable" alongside classics like "Ave Maria." Chris Botti never fails to disappoint, and he's sure to take fans on a musical journey they won't soon forget with his string of 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Influenced by his mother's musical background, Chris Botti began playing the trumpet at age nine, but it wasn't until he heard the classic Miles Davis track "My Funny Valentine" several years later that he decided to pursue a career in music. During his senior year at Indiana University, Botti toured with Frank Sinatra, which led to a number of gigs with famous artists like Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole. Since then, he's released ten studio albums — seven have reached Top 10 spots on the Billboard Jazz chart — and sold three million records. He's also been the host of the radio show Chill With Chris Botti and performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra alongside John Mayer, Josh Groban, and Yo-Yo Ma. Back on the road in 2014, the trumpet virtuoso is set to captivate fans on his highly anticipated world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Chris Botti and his group are the best of the best in the arena of ultra-talented musicians. Of course the handsome man with the horn never lets his audience down. Even though he performs 300 days a year, he gives the audience his all as though it's one show just for them."

"Not only does Chris Botti shine with his talents, he has top notch musicians and a singer to make it an overall outstanding, entertaining evening. ...will definitely try to see the next show!"

"Chris Botti was charming in relating to the audience, and put on a spectacular display of musicianship. He's one of, if not the best, at his craft."

  • More Chris (trumpeting)--Less back up intrusion

by MonkeyDoDa on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 1 out of 5

A disappointing performance in Cupertino (after a sparkling performance in San Francisco last summer). The problems? First, we paid to hear Chris play center stage--not MC for his backup musicians, especially his drummer & lead guitarist, to "do their thing soloing." At the end, it looked like Chris had fallen into the role of Master of Ceremonies there mainly to accent and coordinate the "main show"--the backups. It should be the other way around, however: the backups should accent Chris--but it did not happen. The second problem was that Chris' demonstration of admittedly astounding trumpeting technique (how long he could hold his breath, how well he could hit the "high notes," and how quickly he could do the "twirls and trills") overwhelmed and got in the way of the music, instead of enhancing and orchestrating it. What a shame! Chris is unquestionably one of the finest trumpeters in the world. Has his success ("300+ performances annually") gone to his head so he no longer has to rise to the "moment of truth" with audience? Take it off "auto-pilot" Chris and get back to basics.

Best jazz I've heard since the Monk... Caroline Campbell was fantastic. A violin virtuoso with a horn? You won't believe how well it works until you hear it. In fact, all of the players were such good musicians that it would have been a treat to listen to a concert by eacy of them. The only disappointment was that it had to end. Chris is funny as well as talented. And gracious to spend time giving autographs.

This was the first time I have seen Chris Botti in concert. The show was excellent and he shows the passion he has for music and the people around him. I enjoyed the show very much and would definitely see him again.

  • Chris Botti a great time!

We had a great date night with Chris Botti. I love the way he connected with the audience and his great sense of humor. It was a fantastic show and we will surely go again.

  • It gets better and better

by Anonymous on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Chris Botti before at the Mountain Winery, he never disappoints us. His performance is amazing, love the interaction with the audience. This time, he even assisted a gentleman to propose to his girlfriend during the show. It was wonderful! Would love to go to his show again!

  • Botti is a charmer!

by LarryCG on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

Chris brought his 'always A-game' to his craft and did not dissapoint! The best parrt of the evening is the interplay with his "dysfunctional litte family" that was on stage with him. Although they do this 300 nites per year (!) they genuinely seemed to be having fun at the "family" gathering and we were invited over to join in the fun. Chris is masterful at connecting with his audience which made the experience all the more pleasurable. I couldn't recommend this event more enthusiastically!

  • Botti,...Bravo!

The artificial pleasures that distract us, or merely fill us up, populate our daily lives too frequently with mere satisfaction. Real pleasures that satiate a yearning of the soul are rare. Such pleasure was had by all last night at the Flint Center. Chris Botti and his smokin' hot band provided the kind of artistic fulfillment that leaves the listener light, nourished and pleasantly exhausted. Botti's genius comes from the right ingredients, perfect timing, and an earnest, artistic desire to move the audience. I was moved. Thank you Chris.

  • Chris Botti's band was amazing; Chris was okay

    by sunshn4 on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 3 out of 5

Chris was okay, but far from special. His band was what really shown--all of the members. I particularly liked the piano player, the guitarist, and the drummer. That drummer had a way of using his drums and cymbals, etc. in a way you forgot he was playing the drums. Saying he is an artist doesn't even do him justice. He has the rhythm, the movements, and the subtleties of how to use his instrument--the best I've ever seen. The piano player was also excellent and the guitar player was the jokester in the crowd. Really funny. The keyboard player and the bass player were also very good. The violinist was soulful, and the singer was right on target with her pitch, her charisma, and her vocal range. Great evening. And Chris let one of the audience members propose marriage to his girlfriend, then followed that with the song, My Funny Valentine. Very nice.

  • Botti and company were excellent!!

Well, I was not dissappointed. This is the third time I have seen Chris live. The mix of his solos and the singer and violinist were well balanced. I highly recommend attending his concerts. Nothing but the BEST!

  • Chris Botti Greatness

    by sassy152 on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my third Chris Botti concert, and each show has been refreshing and exciting. The charisma of the core group, and each personality seems to mesh perfectly. I would highly recommend a Chris Botti concert to anyone who loves smooth jazz. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

  • Botti - always a great show

    by gb5678 on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

Chris is a real entertainer and he sincerely appreciates his audience and tells you. He tells great stories, interacts with the audience, someone proposed to their girlfriend from on stage (GREAT FUN). His band members are stellar in their own right. GO SEE HIM.

  • Chris was a great entertainer!

by CrazyJazzLover on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

I would say I love his concert more than listening to his album. His live performance was powerful and phenominal. You can hear pin drops during his slow songs. I had a emotional rollercoaster ride listening to him. He was also a good standup comedian, which made him connect to the audience even more, through his talent and his personality. I am glad I finally got to see him live. One of the best performance i have ever seen. Loved his guest performers too.

Oh my Oh my.... If you've never seen Chris perform, it's a definate must see event!!! Him and his band gives a great performance. Of course this is smooth jazz but you will find yourself awe of every instrument played and the drummer ROCKS!!!!

As always amazing! My sister came from Redding just to see Chris and his band in action. They are such a great enjoyment! We will see you again in SF in June.

  • Chris Botti and friends - just amazing!

by AnaisChevac on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

Every artist in this performance has to be among the greats on this planet today - and would be more than worthy of seeing individually. But as a group, these consummate professionals bring immense heartfelt spirit into their music and share so delightfully with the audience and each other that you can really see why they do this. What a gift! Just too many good moments to mention eveyrthing, but here's a few: Billy's extremely talented and epic solo, Caroline's ever so sweet playing, Sly's just amazing voice and smile, the very cool and incredibly talented double bass solo, the drummer from heaven that Sting is right about, the keyboard guy who so carefully pulls everything in, yep the bad boy on guitar - he's fun fun fun and of course Chris all the way through is artful, intelligent, very very funny and just immense on the trumpet. Chris thank you for having the vision to follow your passion, in it's Sinatra linked beginnings and bringing this all together for us!

  • OUTSTANDING

by MikeJC on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

Seen Botti 4 or 5 times now and he continues to refresh his act (guest performers)...a full 2 hours of nonstop music. I miss his solo trumpet now and then ie...while I REALLY enjoyed his guest violinist, his solo version of Cinema Paradiso is much more moving than when accompanied by the viloinist. We took four friends of ours who had never heard of Chris and after the show they raved about him as a performer and as an individual! He sold a couple CD's for sure last night! Great time and HIGHLY recommended!!

  • Chris Botti was truly amazing

by SEAFARE on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

Chris Botti is an amazing Performer. His love of the arts and deep appreciation for the talent of his fellow musicians really came across during his entire performance. Listening to his trumpet alone would have made the evening memorable but he invited onstage several guests along with his band that were all incredible too. It was obvious that the audience loved the show and were completely engaged at all times.

  • Chris Botti and his group were fantastic

Very relaxing and entertaining concert. I would love to see him again.

  • Positive Energy

by ToothDoctor on 2/11/10Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 5 out of 5

Chris and his band was amazing as always and is the standard his fans have come to rely on. His band is so full of personality and they compliment each other's style. He describes his band as a dysfunctional family. I would strongle disagree...they are just family. I would do it again.

One of the best concerts I have seen in the bay area coming from Costa Rica after seeing Il Divo. Loved Carolyn Campbell and Sy Smith a special thanks. The showmanship of this group was worth 5 x's the money. Each one had their own style but together they were out of this world.
