Chicago Sky History

The Chicago Sky are an American professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team played their first season in 2006, then qualified for their first postseason in 2013 before advancing to the Finals for the first time in 2014. Initially led by Sylvia Fowles, who won WNBA Defensive Player of the Year twice as a member of Chicago, the Sky experienced more success with 2015 MVP Elena Delle Donne and seven-time league assist leader Courtney Vandersloot. In 2021, the Chicago Sky won their first WNBA Championship with a squad featuring Vandersloot, Finals MVP Kahleah Copper and seven-time All-Star Candace Parker. After the Sky drafted Angel Reese in 2024, the rookie center set the WNBA record for highest single-season rebound average and later earned the league’s Peak Performer honor for rebounds.

Pleasant arena. Food service not all that great and way overpriced but almost every seat in the house gave a nice view of game. Would do again.

  • Chicago Sky games are fan oriented

    by skyfan111111 on 9/13/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first WNBA game. I felt so appreciated as a fan. They involve the crowd and the fans are different from any other professional game i've gone to. They cheer like no other venue and they are friendly. I met new people and felt right at home. In the fourth quarter they allowed all the fans to come on the court to do the cha cha slide! These games are also very kid and family oriented. Its a great place to take the family or to go on a date. Very fun.

  • GREAT TIME

I had a great time at this game. This was my first ever professional basketball game. Took my BF and he had a blast too. I just hate the Sky didn't win to go to the playoffs. I will definitely be attending next season.

The Chicago Sky game was fun to watch. The venue is well-designed and clean with good amenities. The game itself was exciting despite the Sky falling in the last quarter to Detroit. There was lots of action and great basketball.

  • WNBA in Chicago

    by chicagoskyfan2009 on 8/20/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Everyone who has any interest in basketball should check out the WNBA, especially in Chicago. The Sky were surprisingly impressive, and beat the Minnesota Lynx 79-76 at the University of Illinois - Chicago Pavilion. The Sky were down early, but compounded the full-court pressure on the Lynx to wear them down and create many scoring opportunities in transition in the second half. This is as complete of a WNBA team that exists; however the Sky, as witnessed that Saturday night, suffer a similar fate as most Windy City professional sports franchises: untimely injury. Sylvia Fowles sprained an ankle in the last seconds of the 4th while defending against a late comeback attempt by the Lynx. She's out of the lineup for at least a few games at the worst possible time for her team; the Sky is contending for a spot in the playoffs, and can ill-afford to go to battle without their all-star center. Newly signed rookie and legendary Chinese Olympian and pro Chen Nan gives this team another smooth outside shooter and quick inside power at 6'6" & 199, but doesn't yet possess the "killer instinct" owned by Fowles. That will come for Nan, with more playing time per game from head coach and GM Steven Key. Again, the Sky possesses enormous potential when healthy; as do the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Fire. But the women are closer to 100% than the aforementioned men in town, and, like the Chicago Wolves (who will share the Allstate Arena in Rosemont IL with the Sky beginning next season), offer a more affordable (and just as exciting) experience to year-round sports-hungry consumers such as myself. Furthermore, I believe this franchise will become one of the premiere organizations in women's sports, and sooner rather than later. The WNBA is here to stay, and will see the Chicago Sky rise to stardom in the near future. This team is so deep in young talent, they will still be a delight to watch, even without Sylvia for a short time.

  • Great Time

    by jamldr25 on 7/30/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

It was great, we were celebrating my Mother in Laws birthday and she is a ex-player from her high school dayz. She had a ball. It was her first professional Womens game. I wish she could have won something or received a tshirt, ball or something. That might be my only thing, the guys throwing things and picking fan participation don't seem random to me. He/she that begs the most/strokes them the most seem to get an opportunity at everything unless they finally decide to look in the balcony. Great time though anyway.

  • Awsome

by beneq on 7/30/09UIC Pavilion - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

It was my dream to see NBA game live. Unfortunately during vacation NBA doesn't play but WNBA is great too. I can't believe that Americans can make show everywhere in every second! Craze people! :) But definitely too much guys, going and selling cola, water and hot dogs. They were disturbing me watching the show.
