Chicago Fire FC History

The Chicago Fire became one of Major League Soccer’s first expansion teams when it joined ahead of the 1998 season. The Fire pulled off one of the most impressive inaugural seasons across American professional sports when the new squad, coached under Bob Bradley, secured an 11-game winning streak and made a surprise playoff run that culminated in an MLS Cup Final win against the two-time defending champions, D.C. United (where Bradley previously worked as an assistant). One week later, Chicago completed the double-header with their first U.S. Open Cup championship.

The Fire found further success in the early aughts with Bradley and his successor Dave Sarachan, who helped the team secure three more U.S. Open Cup victories in 2000, 2003 and 2006. In addition, the Fire earned the Supporters’ Shield in 2003. All-Star forward Mike Magee became the first player to win the MLS MVP Award while representing Chicago in 2013.

Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field

The Fire play their home games at Soldier Field, also home to the NFL's Chicago Bears. Opened in 1924, the stadium is the oldest active venue in American football. If you're in attendance, be sure to keep an eye out for the rowdy Section 8 Chicago supporters. With their tifos and chanting, they'll be hard to miss.

    Great Stadium

by DanOfromChicago on 7/14/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Toyota Park is a great place to watch soccer. Fun atmosphere, with plenty of passion. There are no bad seats in the house.

It was an awesome game. Lots of high moments. Both teams played a good game. Can't wait to get a chance to come and watch the women's soccer team play.

    FC Dallas Tops Chicago Fire

by TimbersFan on 7/13/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Good venue, good seats. Outside of stadium could use better landscaping and signage... not sure best way to go to get to other side of stadium (for first-timer).

    Fire Game

    by boone7247 on 7/13/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Good atmosphere. Alright soccer. Best you will find around here anyway. A bit pricey but what isn't in Chicago. Not that they actually play in Chicago.

    Fire is fun

by RoyMan on 7/13/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Fire games are a lot of fun!! Especially in the Miller Party Deck. Just make sure you get there early, because the drink/food package ends about 20min into the game. It took longer than expected to get there from Roosevelt orange line to the midway express bus...

    Chicago Fire event was great

by Jimmyboy on 7/13/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

I took my two children to see their first MLS game on Sunday, May 31st. The weather was great and we really enjoyed the stadium. Prices for the merchandise was very expensive, but everything else was priced accordingly. I will definitely bring the kids back in the fall if time allows. Unfortunately, the Fire took a beating that day on the pitch. Thank you. Jim

    Great Atmosphere ; Great Game!!!

by Arkitec on 7/13/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Never attended a soccer game before this, my girlfriend is way into soccer and thought I'd suprise her and take her to a game. For knowing little about soccer the atmosphere was great, wasn't a bad seat in the house, and made for a great backdrop to get to know her better! I'd see another game again and can appreciate and understand soccer better!

    I love soccer

by jlhart on 7/13/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

I had a great time with my dad. The seats were close to the field but really there isn't a bad seat in the whole place as far as distance from the action. It also would have been better to not have sat in section 132 because it is right next to the visiting fans section. They were annoying, and I could have done without their negativity. I would recommend getting food either before or after teh game because it was overpriced. Other than that it was a great experience.

    Fun Family night!

by dupcodeb on 7/12/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

We didn't really know what to expect, but this was a really fun family night. The kids had fun and so did we. Parts of the crowd were crazy in a fun way, but the majority was just a really mellow family crowd.

    Fire games are awesome!!

    by lhdt92 on 7/12/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

For the price you really can't beat a Fire game! There isn't a bad seat in the stadium and the fans are great! There's an actual "fan" seating area and those guys literally don't stop standing or moving the whole game!

    Chicago Fire - Great Event

by FireFan on 7/12/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

My family of 4 had an awesome time at the Chicago Fire game against the Columbus Crew. Toyota Park is a wonderful venue - I don't think there are bad seats anywhere in the park. The food and drink selections are great as there are plenty of things for both kids and adults. The best part is that you can see very competitive soccer at a price that doesn't kill your pocketbook. I'd highly recommend seeing the Fire play, even if you aren't a big soccer fan.

    Chicago Fire was smoking!

The game was dramatic, the venue was clean, and the evening was beautiful.

    The Fire is hot!

by BecMan on 7/12/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Fire games at Toyota Park are great experiences for all. The park is easy to get to, clean and well-managed. The super-fan section keeps the crowd up and moving and is fun to watch. Another bonus: the food, parking and tickets are not as ridiculously high-priced as the MLB, NBA or NFL games.

    Memory Ruined

by SoccerfanIam on 7/12/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

People tend to remember the first and last things they see, hear, or experience in an event. The last thing I remember is trying in vain to get out of the parking lot without the stress of my car being hit a dozen or so times. This lack of organization in the parking lot is an embarrassment to the Fire organization. Every other sporting team invests the money to make sure the parking lot and flow are worked by enough people and signs direct folks where to go. This is an ongoing issue game after game and nothing has been done about it.

    9/11 Game - Fire v. Crew

    by SemperFi37 on 7/12/09TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

I really enjoyed the game. Very exciting home fans. Nice field, and great atmosphere. I would definitely purchase season tickets if I live in the Chicago area. I was visiting from Ft. Wayne, Indiana with my son (16 yr old Soccer player).
