Chicago Fire FC History

The Chicago Fire became one of Major League Soccer’s first expansion teams when it joined ahead of the 1998 season. The Fire pulled off one of the most impressive inaugural seasons across American professional sports when the new squad, coached under Bob Bradley, secured an 11-game winning streak and made a surprise playoff run that culminated in an MLS Cup Final win against the two-time defending champions, D.C. United (where Bradley previously worked as an assistant). One week later, Chicago completed the double-header with their first U.S. Open Cup championship.

The Fire found further success in the early aughts with Bradley and his successor Dave Sarachan, who helped the team secure three more U.S. Open Cup victories in 2000, 2003 and 2006. In addition, the Fire earned the Supporters’ Shield in 2003. All-Star forward Mike Magee became the first player to win the MLS MVP Award while representing Chicago in 2013.

Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field

The Fire play their home games at Soldier Field, also home to the NFL's Chicago Bears. Opened in 1924, the stadium is the oldest active venue in American football. If you're in attendance, be sure to keep an eye out for the rowdy Section 8 Chicago supporters. With their tifos and chanting, they'll be hard to miss.

    Fun Time

by Mr Joe on 10/8/23Soldier Field - Chicago

It was a fun time with my son despite not seeing Messi against the Fire. The Fire really were motivated and exploded for 4 goals.

    Disappointing

by Ban on 10/8/23Soldier Field - Chicago

The even was far from satisfactory.. first Messi did not show up .. Miami put on a disdaining performance .. at the door I was told that My daughter can’t have her Fanny pack .. so I walked back to the car to leave there..when we got to the stadiums I saw at least 10 people with Fanny pack and even a big lLV handbag.. also as I was exiting and lot even out side the stadium I was told that my parking is o the other side .. however when I turned around they refused to let me in because they said there is no recently .. but there was no sign to indicate that and I was not even out of the stadium yet I was by the restrooms so if I had to go to use the restroom. I would not be able to go back and there were 20 minutes left for the game.

Eat a bag of poop, Messi

by Tadpole Jones on 10/7/23Soldier Field - Chicago

Just kidding, things happen. I will say it was disappointing not seeing Messi play which is why I spent so very much for tickets. That being said, EVERY Chicago Fire game is a blast. We love going hand will continue to go. So much energy and excitement at every game!

    Where Is Messi?!?!

    by PapaBear104 on 10/7/23Soldier Field - Chicago

Took 4 clients out for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Lionel Messi play. Heard the fan chant from this review’s title all night. Really bad form to not announce his status, not show his photo on the Jumbotron, nothing. Five goals is a fun soccer game no matter what. A simple live image of Messi (where ever he was) on the scoreboard though, would have been enough to make it an experience people would NEVER forget. Playing coy with this fan (me) was the difference between me buying season tickets or not. I won’t be, since this behavior means I can’t trust the team management. 🤷‍♂️

    Over priced

by French Boy on 10/7/23Soldier Field - Chicago

The fact that Chicago Fire FC made us over pay for tickets to see Lionel Messi, and sell tickets for 1/4 of the price a week before the game, & tried to give us a credit towards season pass. No one was there to watch Chicago Fire, we were there for Messi. Will not be attending any Chicago Fire games

Messi Shut Chicago South Side Down (Overwhelmed!)

by Brent on 10/7/23Soldier Field - Chicago

Took 2 hours to get to the game at Soldier Field. Parking was atrocious (even with paid south lot ticket). Lakeshore was stand still for several minutes. Only saw last 30 minutes of the game. Fire and the city were NOT prepared for Messi and the crowds. TMobile internet went down. A ticketmaster employee let me use her wifi Hotspot to pull up my ticket so I can get in. Be sure to save or print your ticket ahead of time. Don't plan on having internet at the game.

by Santos on 10/7/23Soldier Field - Chicago

I took my 8 year old son to watch Messi as he wanted but no Messi was no stopper for enjoying a great game, airplane flew over us after the anthem and goals were a show to enjoy, food was great, drinks were great and my son had a great time watching a full stadium with almost 62,000 fans…I’ll be back at Chicago Fire’s games !!! Let’s go Fire !!! (Sorry for all the kids who couldn’t watch Messi tho, sad to see it happen)

    Chicago vs Miami Game

    by Aamir/Noreen on 10/5/23

This setup for this game was very unorganized. 60,,000 people arriving in at soldier field for this game, I barely made it it Lot on 31st street after 1 hour on Lake shore drive near soldier field. I missed the first half of the game due to traffic leading into the the stadium parking. There was no police presence, people were being rushed driving, causing jams in each lane trying to get ahead to park. Cars honking, it just seemed like chaos. This was the most un-organized event I have been too. There should emails sent for parking and such a few days before the event. It was horrible experience, I am not a satisfied customer.

    Parking Disaster

    by Sad Fan on 8/3/23

When attending events at Seatgeek Stadium, there is usually an issue with parking. Due to the match time being changed and the horrible facilitation of getting cars into the parrking lots, we missed most of the first half of the match. Getting out of the parking lot after the match was also a pain. I doubt I'll ever attend another event at Seatgeek Stadium.

Lots of fun & great venue!

    by TeeBee on 7/18/23

Great venue with easy access walking in from tourists’ hotels. Good variety of concessions, and friendliest staff I’ve seen at any stadium. It also helped that Fire FC won in the last second of match! 😀

    Loved it!!! Great experience!

by Mini on 5/24/23Soldier Field - Chicago

Only one suggestion would be to take a stand on use of foul language and post signs if possible so more family friendly. There was some near us that were shouting inappropriately, cussing and many little kids were there. It felt uncomfortable.
