  • Wonderful Christmas Experience !!

    by Michael3505 on 12/24/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

I have loved Chevy Chase since the early days of SNL and his movies. The presentation of the movie at the Akron Civic was really delightful to relive so much that excited me when the movie was originally released. The discussion was especially warming !! THANK YOU SO MUCH CHEVY !!

  • Better questions needed

by Mel on 12/24/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

It was fun to watch the movie with so many fans. For the Q and A section the questions could have been better, maybe take more guidance from the audience because many people got up and left during the show. Change the questions, ask on-the-spot questions, something! I saw lots of people writing questions and adding them to the boxes, but unfortunately Chevy didn't answer or understand what the person was asking for many of them. Maybe share the questions with him ahead of time??

  • Awesome!

This was a gift for my husband and he thoroughly enjoyed himself! Getting to do the meet and greet was icing on the cake 🎂

  • Chevy was great, venue had several issues

by Chevy Enthusiast on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

Let me state the rating is not for Chevy - he was wonderful! However, the venue (Akron Civic) had several significant issues. First, they started the movie on the smaller secondary movie screen they had (normally setup as a backdrop to discussions). Being in the Balcony made it tough to watch. It got worse when five minutes into the movie the entire color changed to a deep green tint. Finally about 35 minutes into the movie, they stopped the movie after complaints, put it on the correct big screen, and corrected the color settings. The moderator was also below par. I have attended other events like this at the same venue and those moderators clearly had decent knowledge about their subject person they were interviewing. This moderator almost appeared to have little if any knowledge of who Chevy Chase was - and Chevy seemed to know it by his answers to some odd questions (not audience questions but moderator ones). To be fair, the moderator did a good job of filling a brief intermission during the Q&A but the rest was below par. However, if you see Chevy it's worth it - he is funny, very interesting and even worth the pain of this venue. I'd be happy to see him again.

  • Not great

by am on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

This experience was not worth the price. The film should not have played for as long as it did with a green tint. We were left wondering why the bigger screen would not have used in the first place. The questions asked by the commentator were not very interesting.

  • horrible

by MAY on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 1 out of 5

movie started out green, on small screen - drunk crowd and Chevy couldn't keep a thought in his head. Was to be a fun (adult) family night. left before he was done rambling. the q&a person was not good either - waste of my time and money. very disappointed.

  • Pretty awful

by Cassie on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 2 out of 5

The venue was way over packed for a showing on a very tiny screen. About 1/3rd of the way throught the movie, Civic staff came out and changed the screen to a larger one and rewound the movie about 10 minutes. Every one was talking through the showing and, because it was so packed, it was about 90 degrees in there. Chevy came out with a moderator after the show. He seemed disinterested and even annoyed with some of her questions. After about 10 minutes of the Q&A, he suddenly got up to "go pee" and ran off. That is when we decided to take off. Pretty disappointing experience overall. If i had to do it over again, I would not spend $200 plus dollars to see this. Money could have been way better spent.

  • Very disappointed

by Anthony N on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 1 out of 5

This was clearly a money grab for Chevy Chase. He was in very poor health, and even poorer spirits. He could not hear any of the questions the moderator asked. He had two hours while the movie was playing to use the bathroom and he decided to wait until fifteen minutes into his Q & A to use the bathroom. His schtick about falling a sleep in between every question was both annoying and distracting. Absolute worst show. The promoters should be giving refunds, not receiving applause.

  • sad and disappointing

    by Foofan95 on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 2 out of 5

Really enjoyed the venue, however, having to restart the film in a better format was quite ridiculous As for Chevy .. Wish him better health and use inhaler as prescribed.

  • Terrible Journalist/No Color

by Jwolo on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 2 out of 5

Chevy was great! A 10 year old could have interviewed him better than the one they had! The movie didn’t even have color for the first 40 minutes. Not worth the cost of admission.

  • Could have been better!

by BB on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

Our first time at the Akron Civic Theater! Beautiful historical building. That was the only positive from the night. Program started with technical screen difficulties and had to restart on the big screen. The Audio was adjusted multiple times from extremely loud to very loud! I felt sorry for the young lady interviewing Chevy. She was simply the wrong person for this! She didn't have a clue how to interview him. She tried!! Someone closer to his age, possibly another comedian would have been a better selection.

  • Awful! Poorly organized and not worth what I spent

    by A. K. on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 1 out of 5

The facility was not prepared, Chevy Chase was sick and should have cancelled, but mostly the interviewer had no knowledge of the event/person/movie/crowd. I cannot believe I spent good money on this.

  • A bit disappointed

by Chevy Fan on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

The first 1/2 of the movie was of very poor quality ... to be Interrupted with lights coming on, someone coming out to pull down a Big screen and the movie to restart midway in better quality The questions seemed shallow along with Chevys answers... although his humor and sharing of true life experience were good ! It was SO Warm in there one of our group literally got sick and we had to leave !!! Overall I just feel it was way to expensive for the experience. Just seemed like no one was prepared with the technology nor the personal interview !!

  • Perfect experience for NLCV fans!

by Margot on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

Movie was fantastic as usual and hearing some of the stories from Chevy a delight! I only wish our moderator had had some more experience with interviews or with the subject matter to really lead the discussion. Bless you, Chevy Chase and all the joy you and John Hughes have brought us over the years. ;*

  • Movie yes, interview no

by Clark on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 2 out of 5

It was fun to watch the Christmas Vacation movie in a big theater. There were some technical difficulties with the color at first, but the situation was handled well. The interview portion was nothing less than awkward. Chevy Chase often lost his train of thought, did not have any chemistry with the interviewer, and consistently bad-mouthed others in the industry. Tough to sit through.

  • Horrible

by Stephanie on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 1 out of 5

Loud and obnoxious individuals throughout the show and when Chevy Chase appeared, I was worried for his health as he was using his inhaler rapidly to be able to speak. He appeared to be annoyed with the interviewer which made it awkward. Finally, at the end I showed my meet and greet email from Ticketmaster while I was in line and was told I would not be able to stand in line because the email was not good enough. Honestly will not be stepping back into that theater.

  • Civic could have made it better.

by Christmas lover on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 2 out of 5

The Akron Civic Theater could have done this a lot better. Initially, they were showing the movie on a small screen that looked green in color. They eventually switched the screen but this should have been done from the beginning. Also the woman interviewing Chevy was TERRIBLE. She did not engage the audience and did not seem passionate or interested in the interview herself. We left early.

  • Room for improvement

by Cheddar on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

The lines for concessions were ridiculous and kept us from buying anything. If the picture quality hadn't improved, I would be writing negative about that, but kudos to those who got it fixed.

  • What a disappointment!

by Not a fan now on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 1 out of 5

The only high point of the evening was the movie, itself. The moderator of the event was simply awful. Her diction was very poor, her questions were boring, and she had absolutely no rapport with Chevy Chase. There seemed to be an almost hostile relationship between them. As for Me. Chase, I couldn't decide whether he was under the influence of something or suffering from dementia. He failed to answer almost every question he was asked, claiming he could not remember the question. And his epic, "I gotta pee," statement that proceeded his walking off the stage, resulted in a ten minute absence that was simply bizarre. I actually felt sorry for the moderator. Upon his return, he constantly puffed on an inhaler, which made me wonder if that was his reason for walking off the stage to begin with. All in all, there were very few glimpses of the comedic genius that I remember as Chevy Chase. My husband and I left shortly after the actor returned to the stage, feeling very disappointed and cheated. The beautiful Civic Theater and the movie were the only enjoyable aspects of the evening. Mr. Chase's portion was a farce and unfair to every person who paid for a ticket. He should be embarrassed.

  • The Good, the Bad, and the Weird

by Stunned from Cleveland on 12/23/19Akron Civic Theatre - AkronRating: 3 out of 5

The Good: Good job to the Civic for starting the movie on time despite an inordinate number of people showing up late. Also, once Chevy got rolling, it was interesting. I didn’t know a lot of the stuff he discussed. The Bad: the interviewer. For someone who supposedly has won awards, she was horrible. She asked questions that were not only irritating to us in the audience but clearly also to Chevy. (“Do you think it was easier breaking into show biz when you did or today?” Um, how would HE know?!?! Or the fabulous, “Eddie Murray thinks the following about the difference between entertainment and show business. What do YOU think?” Hey lady, we’re here to hear about Chevy and his movies and career, not these ridiculous questions from you.) She didn’t seem to know the first thing about conducting an interview or asking questions. My favorite was when she asked which of the 5 Vacation movies were his favorite. Clearly not only was she not a fan of the movies (there were FOUR—- awkward when Chevy answered incredulously “There were 5???”) but she also didn’t bother to do her homework as a reporter. She made the evening incredibly annoying. The Weird: People leaving before it was over. Chevy wasn’t always lucid. But did anyone think a 76 year old who probably spent at least a decade In his heyday drugging out was going to be clear in memory. Yes he stumbled. Yes he left to use the bathroom for awhile. Yes he was clear enough to respond appropriately annoyed when the interviewer asked dumb questions. It was often strange but still interesting. I just wish they had chosen an interviewer who was more representative of the people who were there—-fans of the movie. Overall, we enjoyed. Plus, during the bathroom break we got to hear from a guy in a local town who decorates his house like the Griswold’s. Took a trip to see it the next night—-awesome—- and contributed to the cause they are raising money for, Cystic Fibrosis. Bonus.
