  • Comedy Legend

by I love Sparky on 12/8/21Rating: 5 out of 5

Seeing Chevy Chase in person was fabulous. He’s 78 years old and memory isn’t great but still so funny and interactive. It was so great being in the theater with other CV fans. Chevy’s wife Janie was there to help him remember things. Their relationship was sweet to witness. Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great Christmasy date night!!

  • Paid for VIP but...

by Rob on 12/7/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5

The VIP experience was a huge waste of money. Meet and greet was rushed. No interaction with Chevy Chase. Masks had to be worn for photo op even though Mr. Chase was 6 feet behind us. I understand this was all due to Covid protocols but the meet and greet should have just been cancelled rather than taking our money and underdelivering on a VIP experience.

  • Chase obviously not well

by Griff on 12/7/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5

We were very excited to experience Chevy as an entertainer in person. We were saddened and disappointed to see his cognitive and physical deterioration. Also surprising was his wife joined him on stage to participate in the interview. It appeared Chevy needed her prompting and guidance to answer questions, and she often answered for him. Also, the sound for Chevy had some type of feedback which made it even more difficult to understand what he was saying on top of (what appears to be) his cognitive decline. Overall it was a disappointing showing. We would not recommend seeing this show, but we are still fans of Chevy and wish him the very best for his physical and mental health.

  • Meh

by So happy I went! on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

So much fun watching the movie on the big screen with other Vacation fans. It was too difficult to listen to Chevy- he was hard to hear and his microphone was horrible. It is with great sadness that I say we got up and left in the middle.

  • Could have been better

by A little disappointed on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 3 out of 5

The actual event was amazing the watching of an all time favorite movie of mine and getting to actually see the main character! The organization of the event could have been been done way better. Saying the doors will open at 6pm but at 6:30pm still standing out side with my disabled child in the cold while I can see the workers in side twiddling their thumbs... to say on the website that mask are recommended but then yell out the door we will be sent away if we do not have them, but yet can see many of the employees not wearing their mask and even one playing with like it was a toy. Now we had our mask because we can’t risk my child, but you can’t say one thing and then when we get there say another. I have to have a bag for my disabled child to have one employee look at me and yell if you have a big bag you will not be allowed in was not ok, someone behind him told me I was fine because it was for her medical stuff but to single me out was not ok. Then once finally getting in to have to stand around and not be told anything was ridiculous and made no since because they waited so long to start seating not everyone was seated when the movie started and disrupted the beginning. Like the way the whole thing was handled needs to be worked well on. Once the event started besides the people still trying to be seated it was amazing and we loved that we got the opportunity to see this movie on the big screen and meet Chevy Chase

  • Not what I expected

Not sure what was going on health wise with Chevy, but it was a lot of interaction with his wife. It took the mood from funny during the movie to a sad ending.

  • Most Money Ever Spent to See a Movie!

by Charleston Music Fan on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

Enjoyed seeing "Christmas Vacation" on the big screen; however, after the movie the program was disappointing. We were expecting a lively conversation from Chevy Chase. What we got was conversation from his wife and the moderator. It was obvious the Chevy Chase did not want to be there, and he seemed impaired. His wife had to feed him the answers to questions. Is he suffering from dementia or just being a jerk? Either way he should not be doing this show, especially at the prices we paid to see him.

  • Overall good, but could have been better for the VIPs

by Hiswife328 on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 3 out of 5

Overall this was a great experience but could have been better. We thought we paid a lot of money to be able to actually go a question and answer with Chevy Chase along with a picture. Unfortunately once the movie was over, he came out talked a while and the only questions were a couple that had randomly been picked that everyone had to write on a card. Once this was all over we had to get in a line with masks required to be able to take the picture. We thought we'd be able to take our own picture or have him sign something, but instead forced to put our phones down on a table, stand 6 feet away from him with masks on, looking like a deer in headlights for the quickest picture ever. Forget about being able to talk to him, we were so rushed we didn't get to say anything really. My husband tried to tell him something but Chevy couldn't hear him and we were being told to leave. I wanted him to know what my husband said so I repeated it louder quickly so he could hear it and that was all. The whole thing was about 10 seconds. Not worth the additional money at all to "meet" him and no question and answer.

  • Sad and disappointing

by Zoso257 on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

Watching the film with a crowd was fantastic. Lots of laughs and anticipation for the best parts of the movie. However, the interview and Q&A with Mr. Chase was a huge letdown because of his condition. At first we thought he was intoxicated, but after some google searching, it seems he’s in some stage of dementia. It was very sad to watch him barely be there while his wife tried to help him answer questions. What’s more disappointing is the fact somebody is probably exploiting him for a cash grab. We paid $100 per ticket for mid level seats to basically watch a movie we’ve seen 50 times and then be depressed for an hour during an awkward interview. People were leaving in droves within 10 minutes of the interview. I can’t imagine having paid for premium seats to see this train wreck up close.

  • So disappointed

by Disappointed Mom on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 3 out of 5

The event completely destroyed my 8 year old son. We both love his movies and he was so very excited about meeting him in Charleston. More importantly he picked out a deck of Christmas Vacation playing cards hoping to have Chevy sign them for my dad, his Poppy. I could care less about the extra I paid to simply stand next to him with our masks on for five seconds. It was worth the money to see the anniversary showing and get to witness Chevy and Jayni in person. I strictly bought the meet and greet for my son. He's Poppy's best friend and saying my dad is Chevy's biggest fan is an understatement. He cried for a good 30 minutes following the meet and greet saying, "but I told Nanny I'd get an autograph for Poppy." I explained to him it wasn't his fault and Chevy is older and can't take the risk of getting COVID. The lovely couple in line behind us even asked to get his autograph because my son had told them how excited he was, but his team said no. I'm thankful he fell asleep soon after getting in the car on our 2-hr drive back to Fort Jackson. For what it's worth we did both enjoy the movie and the Q&A session.

  • Stay home and watch the movie

by Disappointing on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5

Paid 150.00 for two tickets to watch a movie I can see on tv, then listened to Jayni Chase answer questions and share memories of her husband’s career. Shortly after the “high point of the evening” began, almost half the audience got up and left. We stayed to the end. Chevy Chase was incoherent and barely finished a sentence without his wife’s help. Definitely not “An Evening with Chevy Chase!

  • Just really sad

by Rob on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

Movie was great as it always is, however the Q&A portion was just depressingly sad- the question of why did Chevys wife come out and sit onstage first was quickly answered once he was wheeled out in a wheelchair, mostly incoherent and visibly no longer in command of his mental state. At times he was lucid but for the most part, confused and tired. Chevy has had an incredible career, now we should let him enjoy retirement and not parade him around as it just seems to be exploiting him for others monetary gain.

  • Disappointed

by Bridgette on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5

Our whole family loves Chevy Chase and love The Griswold movie- obviously. But- this show was extremely overpriced. The after show was essentially a waste of time. You couldn’t hear him, he couldn’t hear anyone, and his wife was the only participant and I’m sorry- but our family didn’t want to hear from her… just disappointed- especially for the $- overpriced movie.

  • Disappointing for sure

by Barry I on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

You can never go wrong watching Christmas Vacation on a big screen, but it was all downhill after that. Chevy is not the man he once was. He was very difficult to understand, and his wife had to help him remember every story he tried to tell. He would forget what he was talking about during every story. It’s sad, and definitely a waste of money. We actually left early due to it being so uncomfortable to watch.

  • Chevy Chase Worst Show Ever

by M. F. on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 1 out of 5

Chevy Chase should have cancelled and physically stayed home. He was either drunk or high and was a no show in his non performance. The entire show was very unprofessionally done. The "interviewer" did a poor job of asking questions, his back was to the audience often and the sound system of poor quality. Someone finally bought a hand held mike to Chase but it didn't make any difference in the show. Why was his wife even there other than to be the one to tell any story or joke. Chase couldn't remember anything or even speak - half sentences that didn't make any sense. Nothing funny and very little of any interest. People left in droves including my party. Chase even commented on it. Doubtful anyone was left until the end of this fiasco unless they had nothing else to do. What an embarrassment he was to himself . Waste of time and money. Makes me never want to watch anything he's in again.

  • Chevy, Fire Your Publicist!!

by Out Two Hundo on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 2 out of 5

Venue was great as always, one of my favorite locations for entertainment. Movie, a classic and is great wherever it is seen. Dragging Chevy out on stage when he is obviously not mentally coherent is a disservice to the man and the people who paid to see him. The host and his wife had to constantly lead him and even then at times couldn’t remember the answers to the questions or drifted into a rambling mess. It’s a true shame and I hate that I and hundreds of other fans of this legend of comedy and acting had to witness that. I also hate it for the people that paid for the VIP experience, whom I have to assume didn’t meet the person they thought they were.

  • Movie in the theater was great! Chevy disappointing.

by ak14 on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 3 out of 5

To be in a theater watching a movie you love and sharing the love and humor with others was unforgettable. But to be truthful Chevy was a disappointment. I could hardly understand what he was saying. His wife kept speaking for him. After a short while people began to leave the theater. After 30 minutes my friend and I left as well. These were expensive tickets and I did not feel the commentary from Chevy was worth it. I am concerned for his health and quite embarrassed for him that he came out on stage like that and still has several more nights of the tour.

  • Fun experience

by Dwburson on 12/4/21North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

The movie was great! The Chevy Chase experience was what you’d expect. Chevy was the Chevy we all know. His energy early in the discussion wasn’t as good as it was later. He was recovering from a broken leg and took a few minutes to warm up to the questions. His wife was sitting next to him on stage and really helped get him focused. Once Chevy was warmed up it was great to hear him authentically being who we all see in the films. He said he always played himself to a certain degree in the movies. I’d do it again. It was a fun night.
