CHARLEY PRIDE IN CONCERT:
As one of the most successful African-American country artists of all time, Charley Pride stands as a pioneer of the genre and an enduring icon of traditional country music. With more than half a century of recordings and performances under his belt, Pride is a seasoned veteran on the road, traversing his decade-spanning discography with a care and tenderness that underscores his passion for the stage. From the familiar twang of "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" to the lap steel-drenched lilt of "Just Between You and Me," Pride covered all his greatest hits at his 2013 shows, drumming up enthusiasm for more of the same on his 2014 tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born to poor Mississippi sharecroppers, Charley Pride had aspirations of being a major league baseball pitcher before an injury led him to invest in his other passion: music. After recording several demos in Memphis in the late '50s, pride signed with RCA, releasing his first single in 1966 with "The Snakes Crawl at Night." Pride's third single "Just Between You and Me" really broke things wide open, landing at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning him a Grammy nomination. In 1967, he became the second black performer to ever take the stage at the famed Grand Ole Opry, paving the way for an astonishing chart run that saw him score eight No. 1 records between 1969-1971. Pride has continued to record and tour over the decades, racking up an impressive array of country hits and proving himself an indefatigable performer with his continued showmanship on tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Great show and he sounded as good as back in the '70s. He went through his entire portfolio and some songs I hadn't heard before."
"Close your eyes and you'd never imagine it's a 74 year old man up on the stage belting out one classic country hit after another for a solid 90 minute set. Charley Pride sounds every bit as good today as he did 30 years ago."
"It was all I expected & then some. Charlie played to the crowd & didn't limit himself to the main stage, instead moving to the side stages to interact with the entire crowd, making them feel more a part of the show."
Loved seeing Charley Pride. A wonderful performer.
It was an awesome concert. We will definitely do it again
We really enjoyed the show. Charley Pride did a great job.
We’ve seen him before but this was the best show ever.
Venue was great, Charley was fantastic - a wonderful night all around!
Absolutely phenomenal!!! A true performer and legend.
We had a wonderful time at the Charlie Pride concert April 28th st Treasure Island. The casino arena itself was ok; the seating was tight and cramped and the camera person they had to film Charlie & his band was awful (for the side screens) but despite that , it was a very enjoyable show. Charlie's voice is still wonderful, he moves slower but hey, he's 84! He still has his sense of humor and knows how to entertain! Have loved his music since I was a child and still continue today...
The Charley Pride show was amazing. Charley played for almost two hours and didn't take a break. His voice is still fantastic and he is a great showmen. Couldn't have been a better show!
Charley Pride was absolutely legendary! A fantastic concert full of humor and talent. Seats said they were obstructed view. Had no problems with anything in the way. Charley was right there! The man just LOVES music, period.
A man of his age still sounding so good and so will to do what he love to do. A man that love what he is doing.
Great show. Charley played for almost 2 hours. Charley still sounds great.
Considering his age that he could perform for over 90 minutes without any break or I never him even take a drink of water. He sounded great. Brought old memories
For being 84 years old this guy can sing and make jokes with the audience just as good as his younger counterparts. This show was very exciting for me.
Excellent entertainer all these years later. Talked so much to the crowd - Vocals still sound amazing. Thank you, Charley Pride, for your show!!
I took my 89 year old dad who is a disabled Korean War Veteran and we both loved the Charlie Pride concert. Our seats were in the disability section, which unfortunately is way off to the stage side view and acoustics were not great, but for his age, performing for an hour and 45 minutes was quite amazing. This brought back many happy memories from when I was a kid listening to his albums on our old record player in our family living room. He was entertaining and fun to see.
Best show I've seen ever. He has the most wonderful voice and he has still got it!!! Very good performance and sang all of his hits as well as new songs he has recorded which are great also. Loved it!!!
Charley Pride puts on an amazing show, he never disappoints! We go to see him whenever he is near and will continue to do so. You can feel the love the fans have for him. His voice is still wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed his performance!!
What a classic performance! Almost 2 hours nonstop of Great Country Music! SaveD the Best for last with Kiss an Angel Good Morning! Love him!
Charlie Pride is amazing, and such a strong, beautiful voice!!
I was blown away by his performance. He is 84 years old, but still had a strong voice and sang for 2 hours without a break, not even a band instrumental. He just went from song to song with a few interesting stories sprinkled in. I highly recommend. Venue was so-so, on par with other casino concert halls.
