CHARLEY PRIDE IN CONCERT:
As one of the most successful African-American country artists of all time, Charley Pride stands as a pioneer of the genre and an enduring icon of traditional country music. With more than half a century of recordings and performances under his belt, Pride is a seasoned veteran on the road, traversing his decade-spanning discography with a care and tenderness that underscores his passion for the stage. From the familiar twang of "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" to the lap steel-drenched lilt of "Just Between You and Me," Pride covered all his greatest hits at his 2013 shows, drumming up enthusiasm for more of the same on his 2014 tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born to poor Mississippi sharecroppers, Charley Pride had aspirations of being a major league baseball pitcher before an injury led him to invest in his other passion: music. After recording several demos in Memphis in the late '50s, pride signed with RCA, releasing his first single in 1966 with "The Snakes Crawl at Night." Pride's third single "Just Between You and Me" really broke things wide open, landing at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning him a Grammy nomination. In 1967, he became the second black performer to ever take the stage at the famed Grand Ole Opry, paving the way for an astonishing chart run that saw him score eight No. 1 records between 1969-1971. Pride has continued to record and tour over the decades, racking up an impressive array of country hits and proving himself an indefatigable performer with his continued showmanship on tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Great show and he sounded as good as back in the '70s. He went through his entire portfolio and some songs I hadn't heard before."
"Close your eyes and you'd never imagine it's a 74 year old man up on the stage belting out one classic country hit after another for a solid 90 minute set. Charley Pride sounds every bit as good today as he did 30 years ago."
"It was all I expected & then some. Charlie played to the crowd & didn't limit himself to the main stage, instead moving to the side stages to interact with the entire crowd, making them feel more a part of the show."

For those of us sitting farther back, we could see NOTHING on the stage. There was a big screen in the venue, why wasn't he being projected onto it?
Wonderful concert! He still puts on quite a show. He sang pretty much non-stop for 90 minutes, doing his most memorable hits plus a few new songs.
You just need more room in between the rows. Very compacted. Didn't feel like getting up to move , so i wouldn't upset the other people in the row.. just need more room to relax and breathe. But otherwise excellent show.
What a great evening. Charlie Pride was fabulous.
In my opinion i think Charlie Pride would rank one of the best shows i ever seen. He was witty, funny, had good stories, and his voice is still great. Would jump at the chance to see hom again
Charley Pride was excellent, he, at 85 years old can still put on an amazing show. Kudos to you Charley. The venue on the other hand was a little subpar. I realize they need to get as many people in as possible. But when i have to sit with half my rear end of the right side of my $50 seat because the person next to me was using the left half of my seat plus all of hers. Not a comfortable way to enjoy such a wonderful entertainer.
Concert was great. The only disappointment was that we could not hear Mr. Pride when he was talking because of the people talking and laughing in the back. Standing room tickets should not be sold.
đđ Charley Pride put in a really good show.... as always!
For 85 yrs of age, Charley Pride was awesome. He did have some trouble with words on several songs but his voice was strong and sounded like it did 30 yrs ago. The venue however was horrible. The sound was lacking. The band overpowered the vocals most of the show. Because of the way the concert venue was set up there was a lot of extra noise. The beer stands were in the same room as the concert so between the musical numbers all you could hear was the people standing in the back of the room laughing and talking. It had the feeling of being in a bar listening to a band on stage. If I wanted that type of environement I would not have paid the money I did and drove the 4 hrs to a concert. I can drive across town for that and would not have cost as much. I don't think I will be going to a concert at Inn of the Mountain Gods again.
