About

Indie-pop/electro duo Capital Cities has blossomed from a couple of Los Angeles-based jingle writers who met on Craigslist to a ticket-selling sensation on tour with other of-the-moment indie acts like Fitz and The Tantrums and Alt-J. It’s virtually impossible to turn on a Top 40 radio station without hearing the band’s danceable synthpop single, “Safe and Sound,” not to mention the promotional campaigns it pops up in for brands like HBO, Smart Car and Microsoft.

The pair, comprised of composers and songwriters Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, unveiled their first studio album, “In a Tidal Wave of Mystery,” in the summer of 2013 via Capitol Records/Lazy Hooks. On tour to promote the indietronica release, Capital Cities added bassist Manuel Quintero, guitarist Nick Merwin, drummer Channing Holmes and trumpeter Spencer Ludwig to the live shows, which included sold-out concerts at New York City’s Irving Plaza, as well as two nights at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre.

Electric Christmas at the Golden 1 in Sacramento

    by Rck100 on 12/12/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

This was my third Electric Christmas The top bands wer the Naked and Famous and Glass Animals. The Golden 1 Center was OK but the Oracle Arena the next night was a little better. The Golden 1 is kind of narrow and the jumbo TVs do t match the big one at Oracle

    I can't believe

    by Kit10smitten on 12/11/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

Warpaints set was literally less than 30 minutes long. I drove for 2 hours and even shaved my legs for this badass girl band that were barely given any time on stage. They deserved a longer set for sure. The rest of the bands were chill. There was also plenty of floor space so I do not understand how the venue 'sold out' of general admission floor tickets. Sitting in the bleachers made this show lacking. I probably won't be coming back to Electric Christmas because of this venue.

Naked and Famous made the show!

by Snowfoot on 12/11/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

This was my first time at this venue. It was really disorganized with staffers moving people back and forth between lines because they had incorrect information. Once we got in, staffers also didn't know how to read the general admission tickets for location, so I think a lot of people just ended up sitting where ever. The bands mostly seemed amateur with the exception of two bands, so the experience leading into them was a bit blasé.

    Great line-up, Groovin' Holidaze

by boldrobot on 12/11/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

Warpaint, Naked & Famous, Glass Animals, Milky Chance, Capital Cities! A line-up of incredible new music, very impressive. Really appreciated the General Admission for seating. It encouraged wandering around. Wish the Upper Level had been allowed, you can sell those cheap. The lines for everything were too long and only half the vendors were there. Logistics fail. But the music, fresh, innovative, groovin' vibes. Enjoyed them all.

    It was most lit

by Baelay on 12/11/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

I had already seen GA and Milky live, so I had high expectations to begin with. Hot damn did they deliver. Capital Cities killed it, and Naked and Famous deserves to be famous (but naked? I'm sure there's a law against that. Ha.) Anyway, it was a lot of exhausting fun being on the floor dancing and singing the night away with them. Best lineup so far.

    Great show

by OCStylist on 7/28/15The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Great time had by all! Bands were good as expected. New entrance to amphitheater makes it much easier to leave and return during the show if necessary.

    UNDERRATED

by JansenGranflor on 7/28/15The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

this was my third time seeing capital cities, and their show hasn't changed much at all, but the appeal of the show does get better with time. the fact that everyone knows the words to at least four songs that they perform (one hit record, three covers) makes it easy to enjoy yourself and dance away. not sure if i would watch them again, but i am curious to see if it gets better every time...

Capital Citites and Big Data - Amazing!!

by Sullie213 on 7/28/15The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

The show was incredible. Big Data was electrifying and Capital Cities engaged the crowd and had everyone dancing. I love it when a band can come on stage, and make their show their own personal dance party, and that's exactly what happened at the OC fair on Saturday July 25th.

Third time seeing Capital Cities and likely NOT my last. The amphitheater is not too packed, but it is ONLY seats (no pit).

This show was at the OC fairgrounds. I've had the pleasure of seeing Capital Cities once before and they did not disappoint. As I like to say they "sounded like the record".Ther were very energenic and they had everybody on their feet and dancing the entire set. Great job by these gents.
