CAMEO IN CONCERT:
Funk and soul favorites Cameo have been bringing the heat to the dance floor since the mid-'70s, and they continue to treat fans to a serious groove-a-thon any time they perform their solid gold hits. Rubbery basslines, electro beats, and feel-good call-and-response vocals are the order of business whenever founding member Larry Blackmon and his talented band take the stage, and their party-worthy live shows never fail to transport fans back to the golden age of funk. Ticket buyers can cut a rug to "Word Up," shake a tail feather to "Attack Me With Your Love," or sink their teeth into "Candy" – no matter the track, Cameo delivers the goods with saucy swagger and infectious energy to spare. Fans looking to take a funky walk down memory lane can count on Cameo to lead the way at their booty-shaking shows.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Singer Larry Blackmon started Cameo in 1974 amid New York City's fertile funk, soul, and disco scene. The 10-piece group began as the New York City Players (a nod to fellow funksters the Ohio Players), but later changed their name to avoid confusion with the other group. Cameo was a hit right out of the gates – their 1977 debut album Cardiac Arrest cracked the R&B Top 20, spawning club favorites like "Rigor Mortis" and "Funk Funk." The band racked up a string of hits in the late '70s and early '80s, but the height of their success came with 1986's Word Up!, a Platinum-selling smash that topped the charts with its iconic title track and the equally funky "Candy." Cameo remained a fixture on the R&B charts well into the '90s, and in 2001 they once again reached No. 1 when they teamed up with Mariah Carey for "Loverboy," which sampled heavily from their 1986 hit "Candy." Founding member Larry Blackmon and classic-era member Tomi Jenkins took the band to Sin City in 2016 for a residency at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, and their red-hot performances on the Strip proved they haven't missed a beat.
Cameo still sound and look good. I love Larry Blackmon. ❤️
Every band was fabulous. Old school reigned at this concert.
Expected more songs from Cameo. Did not come to hear the rappers that performed during their set.
I was truly looking forward to seeing Cameo. How ever you could see that he wasn’t feeling well. He performed 1 song and disappeared. When the group returned the lead sat down by the drummer and I could hardly hear him. He didn’t even do half of his hits. He brought out rappers to perform and I didn’t come to hear rappers
Everything on the bill was great. Dancing and sweating like school days. I actually loved the earlier acts over the headline, but that rang true back in the day too. Hope more shows like this happen!
First of all they lied and said that the Commodores and The Manhattans was going to be there that's the only reason why I booked it because of the Commodores Cameo was horrible if I knew he was going to sit down and perform I would have never booked my tickets
We had a great time! Enjoyed all of the performances but especially Zapp and Cameo. DJ was also top notch
Pated to see CAMEO. Not the Gieco/Geco brothers. My opinion of them was horrible. CAMEO rocked the house as usual.
Make sure all concessions are open so you didnt have to walk to the front
All other groups we enjoyed Cameo should have open show and let Zapp close not sure what was wrong with Cameo best days behind him
Larry is entirely too old to be on stage trying To perform, it was painful to watch the pain he was in.
One concert I will never forget . It’s was on point with every group. I wish a do over .
Music was good. A little problem with static sound. But it was resolved quickly. I love it.
The concert was AMAZING! Except for Cameo! It's time for Larry Blackmon to retire.. And it was obvious because people started leaving around the 3 song Cameo sang. The other groups were just AWESOME! Cameo just didn't bring it like the other groups did... The other groups I would give straight up 5 stars ✨ Cameo 2 stars ✨ That's why I give it a 5 review, not because of Cameo. But because of the other groups...
Larry is a legend. Period. Unfortunately time has caught up to him. I was saddened to see him walk, but he still has a great voice, and i sincerely wish him the best! My favorite was Zapp, growing up in Dayton, i was so proud. Very energetic and FUNKY. Midnight Star and SOS were also excellent. Over all wonderful experience
To have all those legendary artists on one stage was a great experience.
I loved the concert. I thought the SOS Band could have done a little better. Cameo is the one who sounded more original. I just DID NOT like the part of the rapping in the Cameo set. I went to hear Ol Skool not hear rapping and see all that jumping aroung. That is not how Cameo played back in the day. All that just made it so uninteresting we chose to leave. The DJ was great!!! For sure.
The only band i like was zapp. Cameo the lead singer is too old barely could walk on stage and couldn't stand to proform just sad ..
He just walked off stage and brought rappers to a old school concert he sounded really bad
The majority of the performances and the Dj were awesome. I left during Cameo’s performance. I know he tried but it was not entertaining at all. He should have started and Zapp end the show!
