About

Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., Alex takes a job working in the mall in Barbra Streisand's Malibu basement. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.
The New York Times critics Ben Brantley and Charles Isherwood recently raved about the play. Brantley wrote that Buyer & Cellar is "the most talked about new comedy of the season." WQXR Radio's Isherwood called the hit comedy "very funny" and "a tour-de-force performance."

    Energetic, Enjoyable Delight

by Doc3912 on 6/3/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Michael Urie is at his most effervescent in this one person play. I have no idea how he sustains the level of energy and characters "all by his lonesome" for the duration of this play without even drinking water! Simply put, it is candy for the mind. And, I will never look at Barbara the same way again.

Buyer and Cellar is a hit!

by Chriscjp on 6/3/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was a wonderful play . Very funny. Michael Urie gave a wonderful performance. His vocal intonations were brilliant. He performed for 2 hours on stage by himself with no one to play lines off and gave a magnificent performance. This play is definitely worth seeing.

Buyer and Cellar was so entertaining

by 4Nana on 6/2/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was such an entertaining evening but to be so, you have to know a bit about Barbra Streisand, her movies and her history. Michael Urie is amazing. It was wonderful to laugh. The only negative was that sometimes he was difficult to hear. We were in the first row of the 2nd section so we were not that far back that hearing should have been a problem.

buyer and seller was very disappointing.

by ggclaire on 6/1/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I think one would have to be a fan of either Barbra Streisand or the actor to enjoy the play. The acting was great but the subject didn't interest me at all. I wasn't concerned about either of the characters represented in the play.

    Terrific - Highly recommended

by knpc on 5/28/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The play was both hilarious and moving. Michael Urie is absolutely charming, and his ability to clearly commit to, and switch among a collection of diverse characters quickly and honestly was amazing. I found the play entertaining and poignant, well written and well performed. I loved the venue as well, intimate and comfortable.

    Rolling in the Aisle Laughter

by Nicholi on 5/28/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Michael Urie is superb in this one man show. I haven't laughed this much in Years. His ability to to jump form character to character while keeping each character completely distinct is amazing!

I was pleasantly surprised as I had no idea what the play was about. Michael Urie held his own. Loved his impressions of Barbara, you could "see" her in his performance.

    Buyer and Cellar was fun!

by Jeanius421 on 5/27/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I am a Michael Urie fan and I thought he did a fantastic job. I am almost never disappointed when I see a one-actor production with minimal staging because it is always such a great personal effort and achievement for the actor.

    Engagingly Charming and Energetic

by Jaszmin on 5/27/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I found this production to be very engaging and energetic. To convey a well rounded story like this without excessive use of props, or other actors for that matter, says something about the actor, director, producer, set designer etc... I am not a Barbara Streisand fan but decided to see this production based on reviews. I found that it didn't matter what I thought about Barbara Streisand since the themes are universal.
