Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club®

  • Very Professional

by Tina on 11/4/24Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The performance, actors and the way they included the audience was top notch. I haven't had this much fun in sometime. My favorite part of the performance was the last hour of it. So, don't leave early as you will miss out. Thank you!

  • Fun, Fun, Fun

I surprised my wife with a Latin night. Started off with dinner at a local Cuban restaurant, and then on to the concert. Buena Vista Social Orchestra was a blast! The only lacking was floor space in the old Opera House to dance. They got the audience involved, and I am sure that they were having as much fun as we were. Great show!

  • Great night of Cuban music

by Hunter on 11/1/24Bogart's - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

This was a really fun show and great night of live Cuban music. I fell in love with The original Buena Vista Social Club years ago, and knowing that the original trumpet player had passed on Monday night. This was a special show. Thanks

An amazing experience hearing them play the songs I’ve listened to for over 20years played live. They did not skip a beat. Amazing vocals and every instrument was pure perfection! Would love to see them again!

  • Fantastic, But...

by Juan on 10/15/24Fox Performing Arts Center - RiversideRating: 4 out of 5

Hey this is a legendary orchestra. My first time attending live but, many many years listening to the group. The music was outstanding and took me back many years. The musicians were professional and delivered well on a variety of songs for a solid two hours. A true delight. My only minor complaint is the observation that the Audio techs had the speakers too loud. Sitting in the Mezzanine it was blowing the ears for most of it. Others around me did also complain of the same. Strange enough I have read other comments from past concerts with the same remarks. I could not understand the talking part. The piano and the bass were obliterated by the trumpets & the singers. I am not an Audio specialist but maybe one of the Audio guys should go in to the audience while the orchestra is playing and judge for themselves. A little less volume would bring the delight even more. Lower it down a bit. Less shall be more!. With that on the side I still had a great time with memories to last. I will for sure attend thenext time they are in town. Un Abrazo y Agradecimiento. Bravo

  • Beautiful evening

It was great to hear all the songs we've been hearing for years given to us by the Original Buena Vista Social Club on CD and Video. The musicians and singers captured the true essence of the music given to us by those original Maestros.

  • Buena Vista y bailando

by Chuman Bean on 10/13/24The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 5 out of 5

Tremendous energy from both the band and the audience. Talented musicians got us singing along and eventually (some quicker than others) dancing. On a work night

  • Buena Vista Fue Así Excelente

by Quentin on 10/8/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 4 out of 5

Music was great, except the obvious fact that audio mixers at the venue boosted the volume just a bit over the distortion threshold maybe + 2 dB, or the loudspeakers there are out of their best days. (I think that's the issue of the venue owners - get the money from the musical quality or from the audio volume that is believed to boost the raw energy, supports activity, thus thirst is triggered and drinks are bought.) I had to note that the band leader (or an MC?) could care a bit more about those who aren't familiar with Spanish and got bilingual - to understand the announcement about the 101 old lady in the audience! Maybe it was her birthday. I'd prefer the classic piano and double bass, but I can understand there could've been some circumstances that prevented the artists to have their primary instruments. I could've enjoy more of the percussionists solos, but that's just me. They're great musicians all. It's all good, but we aren't there yet, if your primary goal is to listen and appreciate the music and the band.

  • VIP meet & greet, never emailed time. Fast Pass not honored.

by Slow Motion with P & A on 10/7/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was perfect. People were Intune and ready to get their bodies & music shaking. The Buena Vista Social Club outdid themselves. The house of CUBA was rocking. The group were classy, entertaining and heartfelt! Everyone was respectful and having a great time. Perfect night! Only disappointed that no one emailed us with the Meet and Greet hour prior to the show. We missed meeting some great performers and musicians!! Hope to someday see them again.

  • Had to leave before it was over

by Mck on 10/7/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 1 out of 5

First of all, the opening "act"started about 30 minutes late and was unequivocally THE Worst I have ever heard. He did not sing, he screamed. It was horrible to listen to and his supposed music was not at all appropriate. Then after he mercifully left the stage it was another 20 minutes before the Buena Vista band came on. So almost an hour late from published start time. Again, very little singing and alot of screaming, especially the guy. Several times when the whole band was playing at the same time, the only description was "cacophony". They did not even sound like they were playing the same song. Having seen the real and fabulous Buena Vista Social Club in Cuba this was a disappointment and embarrassing. The younger folks there apparently loved it, however, they had nothing to compare it to as I bet they have never heard the real deal. We left in the middle as that was all we could stand.

  • Great experience

by Syl. D. on 10/7/24House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

We were very welcoming by the staff. They explained us how to proceed with tickets, Foundation Room… And the show and the people around were an fantastic experience!

  • Exquisite musical experience that affirms the human spirit

by Gordito Bonito on 10/2/24Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia BeachRating: 5 out of 5

This was a first-class concert. All were incredible musicians playing incredible music. At the end, after a standing ovation and a "sweet"-and-"spicy"encore (two different pieces differing in rhythmic styles), when the lights came on, and the audience was filing out, car keys in hand, some (O.K., me too) were still crying out, "! otro mas !". There came a moment during this experience - nothing less than an unforgettable immersion in music, tradition, and culture - when, very subtly, it dawned on me that I had “become” the omnipresent (it seems there is at least one in every concert) young woman (I'm a 72-year old guy; not young and not a woman), who stands up and sways her arms to the music. (It really did bring a smile to my face, sardonic though it may have been, and I vowed never to aim such a smile toward this "swaying fool"should I see "her"again at another concert.) This experience - the music; the musicians and their demeanor, exchanges with the audience and each other, and their ease with the music; the dancing, on stage and in the audience; the different languages and observed interactions among the audience... and much more - transported me to a time when two-toned shoes were the fashion and a good danzon the passion. This concert proffered the audience a baseline, extraordinary, musical experience. But that was just "baseline;"there was much more here. For this Cuban, there were moments of welling up as a member of that audience; moments of feeling the joy and pain of my childhood memories, first, when Cuba was my home, and then, when it no longer was; there were moments of reliving a time, if only in fantasy, when a distant but unforgotten child could fit his little hand into Abuela's and Abuelo's big, warm, safe, and affirming hands... maybe sometimes while this same music played in the background. To the powers that be at Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, VA, please (!), bring them back. To the powers that be elsewhere, you know who you are, end the chokehold on Cuba.
