About

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are regarded as one of the very best live rock acts of all time. From humble New Jersey beginnings in 1972, they grew in popularity to become one of the true icons of American music. Hits such as “Born In The USA” and “Dancing In The Dark” cemented Bruce Springsteen as one of America's top popular rock vocalists. He's known for being one of the hardest-working acts in the industry, and concerts can regularly last three hours or more and tours often last years rather than months.
Bruce Springsteen began his musical career singing and playing in a number of bands in the New Jersey area in the mid-‘60s. Influenced by the likes of Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Cream, his musical style was both a reflection of his own tastes and of his blue-collar working-class American roots. The mix of old-fashioned rock and roll with a more progressive, often politically minded lyrical style soon began to build a cult following for Springsteen. By 1972 he was signed to a deal with Columbia Records, along with the E Street Band. The band's members changed now and then over the years, but the core members were Danny Federici, Clarence Clemons, Garry Tallent, Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg. Together they released their first album, Greetings From Asbury Park NJ, in 1972.
While they enjoyed tremendous success in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, they were launched into the megastar category with the release of Born In The USA in 1984. The album stormed the US charts, becoming one of the biggest-selling records of all time with over 30 million albums sold. Bruce Springsteen became an American pop-culture icon and the band enjoyed huge success worldwide with sold-out stadium tours and numerous top 10 singles.
In 1999 Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and over the years the act has won numerous Grammy and Golden Globe Awards while continuing to rock at sell-out shows the world over. Bruce has always remained true to his roots, often turning down offers from corporate advertisers wanting to use his music for profit. His music has truly captured the American spirit over the years, which is why he has remained a much-loved and consistently popular musician for such a long time. Away from his on-stage commitments he is an activist for equal rights and runs a charity called The Foundation which helps support war veterans and food banks.

Taking my 10 year old to Bruce Springsteen for the first time was going to be great! But our expectations were far exceeded by the Boss! The entire show from start to finish had us moving and grooving! I would highly suggest getting to this show!

    BRUCE rocks the house!!!

    by RJ4U on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

The evening may have been a stormy one, with strong winds and rain, spectacular lightning and deafening thunder, but that didn't compare to what was going to happen inside the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL. on Sunday night, the 13th of September 2009. A rough estimate of twelve thousand people, hurrying under umbrellas that couldn't offer much cover against the rain, had a date with the Boss of Rock. Inside the lobby of the expansive indoor arena, a lively atmosphere of happy, jeans-wearing fans, willing to dish out $20 for self parking, $20 for programs, $12 for alcoholic beverages and $4 for soda. The privileged ones had arrived earlier, to claim their club seats, the buffet dinner and open bar. South Beach girls, showing off their "Jersey Girl" tees. Grandmas in "I love Bruce" black tees from past concerts. Peace-loving hippies, near their 60th birthdays, with long ponytails. Professionals in their 40's and 50's, perhaps using this as an escape to forget how much money they lost in the stock market. Fans in their 20's and 30's, who perhaps first listened to Bruce at home, when their parents played his records. And some school children, who perhaps came with their babysitting grandparents who wouldn't miss Bruce for the world. The ticket stubs said 7:30 but 7:30 came and went as stage hands tested instruments and lights, and people slowly poured in from the wet darkness outside. The oval cemented center of the arena was designated as "general admission", with standing-room only for the fans willing to pay $116 each to stand, jump, scream, kiss, dance, and perhaps shake the hands of the Boss. The cement was slowly covered by this sea of heads that was growing impatient with each passing minute. Finally, someone brought down the ladder that led to the lights on top on the stage, and several figures, that looked like thieves in the night, took their places overhead and brought the ladder up. It was 8:20 pm. Total darkness, except for flickering lights that made the arena look like a starlit sky. And suddenly, frenetic screams from the people closest to the stage. Some movement of figures in the dark. And then, a spotlight shines on the platform closest to the standing audience and there's the Boss, with his guitar, ready to pour out his body and soul for three full hours, with no rest and no intermission, and an energy that seemed to know no beginning and no end. Sunburned from a day at the beach, and wearing black shirt and jeans, with a vest on top, and a half glove on his right hand. His hair, longer than had been seen lately, gives him a more youthful look. He looks rested and his teeth are pearly white. Hit follows hit. People in the reserve seats forget about common courtesy to people sitting behind, and stand up, dancing to the music they know so well that they sing along. The Boss is enjoying this tremendously, and he aims the microphone at the audience countless times as if to say "now's your turn". People in the standing room only are hopping up and down, and after each song, delirious clapping and a a thunderous "BRUUUUUUUUUCEEEE" that to the non-Bruce fan sounds like booing. Two huge screens on each side of the stage show closeups, while a center screen much larger than the other two, creates background ambiance for his songs. The area on the back of the stage is curtained off, so the Boss has only to concentrate on his front, left and right. He's a master at involving the audience. This is not a performer who just comes out, sings and leaves. He's an entertainer who respects the time and expense of his fans and came to deliver. On closeups, glistening pearls of sweat render testimony of his efforts. What seemed like the end of the show, when he introduces his amazingly talented E Street Band, is really the middle. He starts collecting posters from the standing room only audience with names of songs that they are requesting and places them all on the stage floor. One by one he obliges, singing songs from his almost 40 years in the business. Children from the audience go on stage, dancing and singing with him as if to recharge with their youth his endless energy. He gives the microphone to a boy, who doesn't know the lyrics to his song, he only hums along, making the Boss smile and tousle the boy's hair. It took five encores to make the stage dark. People were just refusing to let him go, even if it was almost 11:30pm on a Sunday night. The house, still packed. Nobody left early to "beat the traffic jam".But with a "We'll be back, Ft Lauderdale!" he did leave. And what a great night was had by all.

    Bruce Rocked The House

    by Mindy24 on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

As expected, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band put on an UNBELIEVABLE SHOW. From the moment they appear on stage, it is clear that the band are not only musical geniouses, but they are a group of tight knit friends. Their years of working together have provided them with the uncanny ability to perform at the highest level. You know that they are not just providing entertainment to the audience, but that they are in fact having a great time with each other. You feel like you are watching a family. Only through years of experience can any group attain this cohesiveness. Each song tells a story. Bruce's audience involvement is fantastic. He even takes kids from the audience and brings them into his world of music. There's nothing better than watching the enjoyment of kids with "old school" musicians..... isn't that what ties the generations together???? In a nutshell, I would say that everyone should attend at least 1 Bruce Springsteen show in their lifetime....

Bruce Springsteen /E Street Band Great in Ft. Laud

by Melian on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

Awesome show! Played for three hours straight. No warmup band. This show was almost as amazing as the time we saw him at the old Orange Bowl in Miami in the mid-80's, where he came on stage at 7:30 and played until at least 11:30 PM. Missed hearing Rosalita and Born in the USA. However, the sound guys need to tone it down. It was WAY too loud and the sound was distorted at times. My ears are still ringing 12 hours after the event!

    Bruce: Solid Refreshing

by BarryA on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

Not just another greatest hits show. Both of his newest albums, ("Magic" and 'Working On a Dream"), are great and featured here. He is great, the band is great and this show will most probably be the best show of your life. If you're sitting on the fence about going, don't miss this, you'll remember it for the rest of your life. He's larger than life personality and I felt lucky to be part of this. I've seen him before and here last time and his performances are always great, but this show was no greatest hits re-hash: It was new and fresh; really alive and electric. When you go, bring someone you love; this show will remain in your lives forever.

Love his energy and his soul. Where the heck was Patti? Only dissapointment-and a big one at that. You can't just replace her with anyone, even a good artist-it is just not the same!

Springsteen showed how phony he could be

by Tomkin on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

Springsteen ,a self-proclaimed advocate of liberal causes and the plight of the common working man in this country had the audacity to show up for his performance an hour later than was scheduled, not caring about the thousands of people who were standing on the floor since there were no seats set up for them, waiting for him to arrive. Once on the stage he made no attempt to explain his tardiness, as if his faithful following did not merit any explanation and should be honored to be in his presence at the show. Later he could not end his performance without mentionig his political views on the health care issue, as if his ideas were so meaningful. He also requested that the audience contribute to his pet charity to feed the hungry, which I would have done had he not made me wait for an hour before the show began.

    No Born in the USA!!!!

    by SunGirl901 on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

While Bruce did give a solid 3 hour performance, he had no opening act so we sat for over an hour waiting for him to take the stage after the 7:30pm start time. How difficult is it to start reasonably close to the allotted time?? Unfortunately I only knew 6 songs he played. He definitely played too many of his newer songs and not enough of the oldies and definitely did not play Born in the USA...

    Springsteen awesome...Bank Atl, Center...horrible!

by magicrat on 9/14/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

This was my 5th or 6th time seeing Bruce Springsteen, he always puts on a great show and this was no exception. He only played 2 songs from working on a dream, the tilte song and the Outlaw Pete which frankly I can live without hearing. He did a lot of songs from Born to Run and darkness and took many requests from the audience. Ticketless system is horrible! Thay require evrymember of your party to be present when you get there, the wait for the "lottery" selection was terrible (these were general admission seats) mostly it was the fault of the venue, there were literally 1000 people standing outside in the heat and humidity of South Florida and they would not even open the doors to allow the A/C from inside cool people off! I'll never do this agin no matter how close to the stage you may get.
