About

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are regarded as one of the very best live rock acts of all time. From humble New Jersey beginnings in 1972, they grew in popularity to become one of the true icons of American music. Hits such as “Born In The USA” and “Dancing In The Dark” cemented Bruce Springsteen as one of America's top popular rock vocalists. He's known for being one of the hardest-working acts in the industry, and concerts can regularly last three hours or more and tours often last years rather than months.
Bruce Springsteen began his musical career singing and playing in a number of bands in the New Jersey area in the mid-‘60s. Influenced by the likes of Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Cream, his musical style was both a reflection of his own tastes and of his blue-collar working-class American roots. The mix of old-fashioned rock and roll with a more progressive, often politically minded lyrical style soon began to build a cult following for Springsteen. By 1972 he was signed to a deal with Columbia Records, along with the E Street Band. The band's members changed now and then over the years, but the core members were Danny Federici, Clarence Clemons, Garry Tallent, Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg. Together they released their first album, Greetings From Asbury Park NJ, in 1972.
While they enjoyed tremendous success in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, they were launched into the megastar category with the release of Born In The USA in 1984. The album stormed the US charts, becoming one of the biggest-selling records of all time with over 30 million albums sold. Bruce Springsteen became an American pop-culture icon and the band enjoyed huge success worldwide with sold-out stadium tours and numerous top 10 singles.
In 1999 Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and over the years the act has won numerous Grammy and Golden Globe Awards while continuing to rock at sell-out shows the world over. Bruce has always remained true to his roots, often turning down offers from corporate advertisers wanting to use his music for profit. His music has truly captured the American spirit over the years, which is why he has remained a much-loved and consistently popular musician for such a long time. Away from his on-stage commitments he is an activist for equal rights and runs a charity called The Foundation which helps support war veterans and food banks.

Springsteen even better than 25+ yrs ago!!!!

by MJSstar on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

Springsteen brought the house down with over 31/2 hrs of his great music. All ages enjoyed the high energy and we didn't sit down the whole time even though we had reserved seats. New music is fantastic and the oldies were huge favorites with the crowd. Bruce looks amazing and sings just like he did almost 30 yrs ago. Rock on Bruce and E Street Band.....you are phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!

Bruce and E Street - Makes You Feel Alive!

by Anonymous on 9/17/09BankAtlantic Center - Sunrise

It was a privilege to see Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band, even though I was in the nosebleed section. The show was terrific, full-on energy and great musical talent from the first note to the 3rd encore 3 hours later. Springsteen was brilliant, engaging the audience, reaching out, dancing with kids that some fans boosted up on the stage, running, leaping, playing guitar or harmonica and singing almost nonstop. He and E Street members Van Zandt and Lofgren launched plenty of string-bending solos, with classic sax support from Clemons and unexpected violin and accordion bits from Tyrell, Giordano, and Bittan. He chose a mix of his own popular older stuff (eg. Working on the Highway, Cover Me, Dancing in the Dark, Born to Run, Thunder Road) which caused joyful sing-alongs, his own contemporary stuff (eg. The Rising, Working on a Dream, Outlaw Pete), and some charming selections of other old music picked from the audience requests (eg. Sherry Darlin, So Young and In Love, And Then (S)He Kissed Me). This segment, where he gathered signs from the floor fans with their requests, seemed really connected and creative. He was particularly animated and exuberant. How does he do it? It is inspiring! If you don't believe me, check the amateur vids of the show on YouTube. I had not been to see him live and cannot compare to other concerts he gave. But I have seen plenty of other classic rockers over the past 40 years, so I feel qualified to say that his show was GREAT. Anyone who has chance should go see him. He and the band members looked to be having plenty of fun, and it made it fun to be there. So--he is not the same guy he was decades past, but he is better - looked and sounded truly fine and was full of life. He made me feel alive too, and what could be better? Here's to more Bruce and E Street. Give that man an arena-sized hug. Play anything you want, just keep playing!

    Springsteen - My God

by SmokeyD on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

I've always heard about the concernts given by Bruce Springsteen but he never seemed to tour in the South during my heyday in the mid-seventies and mid-eighties when I was attending concerts by the Stones, Deep Purple, Van Halen, etc. I am amazed at what I was last night in Greenville. I am 57 years old and today I learned that Bruce has recently turned 60. I was exhausted just by his energy and his work ethic to ensure that he gave everyone their money's worth. We saw a three hour, non-stop show of old hits, rock standbys and a few add-ons like Satisfaction (speaking of the Stones). He has a magnetic appeal and seemed to be having as much fun and enjoyment as the audience. I am old enough and have experienced enough to limit my superlatives but this guy is truly amazing and using the moniker "legend" is absolutley appropriate.

    Springsteen rocks

by abuggrandpa on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

I especially enjoyed "Double Shot" with the Swinging Medallions. Being form Greenwood I appreciate an artist doing a little homework and having surprises like that during the show. The band worked hard for almost 3 hours. Thanks for letting the little girls sing too things like that mean bunches and make the show special. Springsteen Rocks

all the olden goldies - I;m OLD TOO !!!!

    by flgrl098 on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

Please play 'Born in the USA' I talked to many folks that were at last nights concert and we waited until the last second but NO BORN IN THE USA????? I was born in the USA and am very proud of it. Our son will be going into the Marines (he graduates early from high school and he wants to be a diesel mechanic..) But when I opened todays front page of the Greenville News the first thing I saw was the burial of a 20 year old Marine from Gaffney and in the lower right corner Bruce's blog. Sorry - Bruce has always rocked with me but as far as I'm concerned he needs to remember all those who are fighting for all of our freedoms! If we live here we're , 'Born in the USA' and if Bruce ever comes back to G'ville please make sure he knows we all love the 'USA' and Bruce!

I saw Bruce Springsteen in 1980 because he was highly reccommended by a friend. He was unforgettable then and now in 2009. We saw him in Greensboro, also. He puts on a great show and always involves the audience. If you have never seen him in concert, put his show on your "TO DO" list. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Springsteen and E Street in Greenville - GREAT!

by MiketheBike on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

It was amazing to see Bruce and the band play a small venue like the BiLo center in Greenville SC. If anyone feared that the show may have been less than what you may see at a larger location those fears were quickly put to rest. Springsteen was as energetic as ever and sounded great. The E Street Band were as tight as ever and Jay did a remarkable job filling in for his old man. My wife was not much of a Bruce fan before the show but thats all changed now. If you have never seen Bruce and E Street don't miss a chance to see these Rock icons.

An American Icon Still Rocks It Out!

by Bardolator on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

Part rock concert, part revival, Springsteen played for nearly three hours with exuberance and energy. The playlist included plenty of standards, as well as lesser known tracks from his many decades of making music. More unexpected was his tribute to beach music and Riverdance. Rare indeed is his unique mixture of charisma, stage presence, and--even at sixty--raw sex appeal!

    NONSTOP

by Foxpalmetto on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

It was an amazing 3 hrs of non stop music . I can't believe the energy he has and it spills over into the audience. There were 3 generations from one family in front of me and they were all enjoying. We where in the pit and it was a wonderful experience -- Jay on the drums was awsome and can't believe the kid is only 19. I hope to go again -- real soon.

    Springsteen was awesome.

    by Golfpro518 on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

Bruce and the E Street Band put on their typical, high-energy show at the Bi-Lo Center covering a great selection of their catalog. The only songs I would have liked to have heard were Rosalita and You're the One. Other than that, he played everything you'd want to hear. Jay Weinberg, Max's son, did a great job of sitting in on drums.

    Magic Night In Greenville

by EStreetTillie on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

We knew we were in for a high energy show when he opened with 'Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out". The theme of the whole tour seems to be Let's Have a Party, and the Greenville show truly delivered the goods! The fan request section of the show only adds to the 'we're all in this together' vibe. From old standbys (Backstreets, Hungry Heart) to new classics (The Rising) to his bar band roots (Satisfaction, Raise Your Hand), the man could do no wrong. How does he do it?

    Bruce Rocked

by SCGirlfromNY on 9/17/09BI-LO Center - Greenville

The title of my review says it all. Bruce rocked. The man is 60 years old and can perform for three hours straight!! He was very engaging with the crowd and he looked like he genuinely was having a great time. Not much else to say. I am not the hugest Bruce fan, but seeing him live has made me more of a fan.
