Bruce Dickinson is lead singer of Iron Maiden, debuting on the band�s third album, 1982�s The Number of the Beast. He quit Maiden in the 1990�s to pursue a solo career, recording five studio albums, 2 of them featuring fellow Maiden bandmate Adrian Smith, and 3 in collaboration with guitarist & producer Roy Z. After re-joining Maiden in 1999 Dickinson recorded a further solo album with Roy Z - 2005�s Tyranny Of Souls. Alongside Maiden activities, Dickinson is an airline captain, aviation entrepreneur, beer brewer, motivational speaker, podcaster, film scriptwriter, New York Times best-selling author, radio presenter, TV actor, sports commentator and international fencer. He has lately been touring the world with his spoken word show An Evening With Bruce Dickinson telling anecdotes about his life and career in Maiden and featuring an improvised Q&A session. The band released their 17th studio album Senjutsu in Sept 2021 and will be continuing their Legacy Of The Beast tour in 2022.
Bruce spoke about his childhood and how he got into music and airplanes. He was funny and entertaining. After the break he answered questions and left us with a few music notes.
I saw my idol Bruce Dickinson, the Iron Maiden Frontman, in a discussion at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale. It wasn’t only a discussion, actually it was an one-man show, a stand up comedy! Bruce was witty and had a great sense of humor! Bruce Dickinson in his speech focused not only on the musical events but also on the serious problem he had with the cancer in the pharynx where he successfully overcame it and also on his second career as a pilot in an airline company! In Parker Playhouse it happened to see my last concert two years ago, the Eagles' Don Felder, as well as others artists and bands like Engelbert Humperdinck, Art Garfunkel (Simon & Garfunkel), Bill Medley (The Righteous Brothers)! The album "Piece of Mind" this masterpiece of Heavy Metal music was the first record I bought in 1985 when I went outside a friend's house where he was playing the record loudly and heard the awesome vocals of Bruce Dickinson! In order to enter the concert venue yesterday, I showed the two vaccines I did in Europe, the one I did in America, as well as the self test I did shortly before the concert and I was wearing a mask as well.
What an interesting and engaging evening! Three hours were gone in the blink of an eye! Fantastic!
I must say that this book signing event was the first I have ever attended where the author also did a reading from the book as well. Bruce Dickinson is such an accomplished Musician, Businessman, Husband, father, Aviator, and may I now add comedian! He had us in stitches with his animated Performance reading from his new book and providing such comic relief backstory at many times! There were also some very serious and somber tones, but Mr. Dickinson certainly has the English Humor down to a science! Amazing man, amazing Performance!
