Brooklyn Nets History

Founded in 1967 as a member of the American Basketball Association, the Brooklyn Nets franchise began as the New Jersey Americans before relocating to Long Island for its second season and becoming the Nets. After merging into the NBA for the 1976–77 season, the Nets moved to New Jersey and remained there for 35 seasons before relocating to Brooklyn in 2012.

The Nets closed their ABA era as the league's marquee franchise, reaching the finals in 1972 and then winning championships in 1974 and 1976. The legendary Julius Erving won the league's final three MVP awards. Powered by forward Buck Williams, the Nets made five straight NBA playoff appearances from 1981–82 through the 1985–86 seasons.

In 1991–92, the Nets, propelled by top scorer Dražen Petrović and young catalysts Derrick Coleman and Kenny Anderson, returned to the playoffs, with both Coleman and Petrović earning All-NBA honors in 1993. The arrival of point guard Jason Kidd in 2001 sparked the team's greatest NBA era. Joined by Richard Jefferson, Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles, Kidd led the Nets to a franchise-record 52 wins in 2001–02 and back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. With high-flying Vince Carter arriving during the 2004–05 season, the Nets made six straight playoff appearances.

The 2020–21 season was a stellar one for the Nets, as they advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, losing in the seventh game to eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. Kevin Durant set an NBA playoff Game 7 record when he scored 48 points, but the Nets came up a bit short.

    Brooklyn Nets Home Opener

    by laf2 on 11/5/12Barclays Center - Brooklyn

The Barclays Center was great. Very convenient and easy to get to, clean, and the service was terrific. I never experienced such nice people and good service at a sporting event before. The game was so much fun. Very high energy, and cool! Can't wait to go to another game!

Love the Nets, not into the lines

    by gochrisgo75 on 11/5/12Barclays Center - Brooklyn

I'm excited about going to more Nets games. It was a great night. The problem is the lines. I waited for a hot dog for over 25 minutes (really, I timed it). I hope they address these lines.

The arena is great; the atrium is quite a sight, and the entrance pretty much opens onto a partial view of the arena. We sat in the 200-level on the end, and the view was very reasonable. Food is generally expensive, and the lines were long.

Had great seats. The Nassau Coliseum was electric. The game went into overtime the Knicks won and the big Knicks crowd went crazy. Bring back another game to the coliseum.

It was one of the greatest days of my life!!!

by Rashiem on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

It was a great game. It was also mine and My sons first time watching a NBA basketball game in person. At 35 I can say that that it was one of the greatest days of my life and i could tell my my sons face that that was a day he'll remember for the rest of his life. P.S Sitting directly behind Jose Reyes was definitely a memorable event.

    Can't see

by Knicklover on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

The coliseum needs to be torn down. It's a dump and the if your sitting in the last 4 rows you cannot see the scoreboard.

    KNICK NET GAME

by JR3960 on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

While I enjoyed the game the Nassau County Colliseum is horrendous. The seats are too close together and the space in the rows made it very uncomfortable. I would never go back given the availabilty to go to MSG or the new Barclay center. Its too bad that they don't recognize the fan base of Long Island for the dedicated people they are. I for one will watch the games from the comfort of my home. The other insult is that they have doubled the price of parking to twenty bucks with no improvements. How sad.

    Game ok/Parking Rip off

by BigBobbyD on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

The game was good. Seat was good. The ticket was only $30.00. Parking, a ripoff. Parking was $20.00. Took the joy out of the game

    Fun

by Ldoro on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

The game was a home game for the Nets though it was at Nassau Coliseum. The large majority of fans were Knick fans so it was kind of weird for the "home" team to be booed. That aside, we had terrific seats and the game went to overtime. The Nets dancers are really good and so was the music. I can imagine that Barclays Center will be rocking when the season starts. Makes me want to get tickets just to experience it. The one bad part of the night was that my husband couldn't bring in his camera. The venue really needs to include this restriction on their website.

    Nets/Knicks game

by GTADad on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

awesome tix ... old enough to realize that was the same actual court that Dr J played on ... hasn't had much use since. I think Coliseum needs a BB team now, not a hockey team. It would sell out every night.

    Game was so much fun

by GGG1209 on 10/26/12Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

The seats were great , and the price made them even better The row was fine ..maybe just next time I would be more careful in choosing where in the row to sit. I was smacked in the middle and felt bad having everyone stand up when I wanted something .

I'm not sure it was worth the trip out to Long Island, but it was a great game.
