Brooklyn Nets History

Founded in 1967 as a member of the American Basketball Association, the Brooklyn Nets franchise began as the New Jersey Americans before relocating to Long Island for its second season and becoming the Nets. After merging into the NBA for the 1976–77 season, the Nets moved to New Jersey and remained there for 35 seasons before relocating to Brooklyn in 2012.

The Nets closed their ABA era as the league's marquee franchise, reaching the finals in 1972 and then winning championships in 1974 and 1976. The legendary Julius Erving won the league's final three MVP awards. Powered by forward Buck Williams, the Nets made five straight NBA playoff appearances from 1981–82 through the 1985–86 seasons.

In 1991–92, the Nets, propelled by top scorer Dražen Petrović and young catalysts Derrick Coleman and Kenny Anderson, returned to the playoffs, with both Coleman and Petrović earning All-NBA honors in 1993. The arrival of point guard Jason Kidd in 2001 sparked the team's greatest NBA era. Joined by Richard Jefferson, Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles, Kidd led the Nets to a franchise-record 52 wins in 2001–02 and back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. With high-flying Vince Carter arriving during the 2004–05 season, the Nets made six straight playoff appearances.

The 2020–21 season was a stellar one for the Nets, as they advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, losing in the seventh game to eventual NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. Kevin Durant set an NBA playoff Game 7 record when he scored 48 points, but the Nets came up a bit short.

We were so glad to be able to finally go to a Knicks game! The games at MSG are too much money to go with our family, and the Knicks did not disappoint!!!!!!

What a great game! Went into overtime. my seats were awesome, saw myself on tv and got to hi-five all the knicks players as they went into the locker room. Perfect birthday gift for my boyfriend. ;-)

About as exciting as you can get for a pre-season game. Hey an overtime win for the Knicks has to be good, even if the reserves were in for the 4th Quarter. The only downer was those jerks giving out flyers asking us to reserve our season tickets for the Islanders in the Barclay Center,\ No Long Islander is goint to watch Wang's Wanderers in Brooklyn!

Nets first time playing in Barclays

by DonZorro on 10/21/12Barclays Center - Brooklyn

I am impressed with this arena, it is original that is for sure...warning, there seem to be restricted view seating and the upper deck is real tight. Pay the extra to get proper seats...Arena is very modern, classy . Props for creative effect by giving that old school illusion with a contemporary vibe. Even though one probably could not find a better view from an upper deck seating in any arena around the world, my seat was not worth the price no matter what game or team you are seeing...

    I literally was on court.!!!!

by olafluffy on 10/20/12Barclays Center - Brooklyn

Omg. The new arena is great. Am not a big fan of events at such places like the madison square garden, and the yankee stadium. Bt the barclay center .i LOVE. And besides its 10 mins away from home. It dont get no better than that. I am def saving for my tickets to the next event.

    Nets basketball

    by NEWNETSFAN2012 on 10/17/12Barclays Center - Brooklyn

Barclay center was amazing, food concession stands are the best of all NY stadiums/arena however, the wait time for the food was incredible- 30 mins to order and receive our food.

    Nice game, seats weren't

by Sharpshot on 6/27/12Prudential Center - Newark

Even though you're in the Arena and watching the NBA, being up that high and away from the big screen, I wasn't that satisfied with the seats i had. Especially for the $90 i paid.

    Halftime event was great!

by JackP27 on 12/10/09IZOD Center - East Rutherford

The halftime event was great. The food was a bit pricey as always with the arena rate. The kids hoop shooters were very entertaining. The T-shirt time was exciting but too bad, there were not many T-shirts given out and distributed properly. The section behind the basket where I sit did not get any T-shirt flying by. The noise, music and audio effects were very pleasing and satisfying. Although the stadium was not full, the fans were energetic enough to make the noise level up to the highest and almost to the limit of the noise meter.
