Broken social scene blew my mind

by carlitoNokno on 9/19/10House of Blues Boston - Boston

The show was amazing. They played a long set, over 2 h ours! They crowd surfed and the energy was tremendous. The lead summer got food poisoning but he got over it and still went on. house of blues, as always was a great venue and awesome location for the show.

The Sea and Cake should have Headlined! They are amazing. Too bad they are generally lesser known.

Mostly played songs off of Forgiveness Rock Record but an even mix of singles from their self titled album, You Forgot It in People, and Feel Good Lost. Keep your eyes open before the show and during the opening act, we saw Brandon Canning and Kevin Drew just watching from the crowd. Kevin was nice enough to sign my ticket, although it was apparent he didn't want to get noticed.

Broken social scene are the best band around

by Laerscip on 9/16/10Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

My favorite band. Played for over 2 hours straight with no encore. Put on a high energy show with crowd surfing and amazing performances. The band's songs are always much different than the next. No songs sound the same and you can see how much the band loves their music and fans. Seeing them in NY this Saturday, almost went to the 2nd Philly show last night.

Glad I went, not worth the money

    by Brandon2 on 9/15/10Warner Theatre - Washington

I have been a Broken Social Scene fan for years (really liked the Self Titled album and You Forgot it in People, casual listener of everything else after) and I was really looking forward to seeing them for the first time. I'm glad I went but my personal experience was not amazing. I was sitting in the middle of row R and I'm not sure why but during most of the show (Sea and Cake included) the sound of the guitars were really muddled together and at times were indistinguishable. Unless there was some sort of signatory guitar hook on the songs (at which point I think said guitar was turned up in the mix), I could barely hear any of the string instruments. For the majority of the show I could only hear drums, synth and vocals. Switching seats with my girlfriend improved the sound a little bit but not much. Maybe it was because of where I was sitting and/or the way the band was mixed which brought me to my next point of dismay. I've always really enjoyed how BSS sounds rich and warm on all of their recordings, especially during loud parts of the songs. I did not experience this, even when they played my favorite song of theirs which I think best exemplifies this characteristic, "KC Accidental." The show did have some good aspects though. I really enjoy the drummer for the Sea and Cake (even though I think the rest of the band can be kind of dull and restrained). The singer for Broken Social Scene had decent stage banter (even though I don't think BSS's music really lends itself to the 'front man' role he was playing...I kind of expected minimal conversation between songs). They played lots of old songs that I've loved for years such as KC Accidental and Lover's Spit. The light show was cool...again, not really something I would have expected from them (they seem more like an artsy video pojected on a screen type band to me). All in all I'm glad I went, but I would not go see them again, especially for over $80 for two tickets.

    Wow.

    by 81Reed on 9/13/10The National - Richmond

2.5+ hour set? Amazing. These guys are willing to play fan favorites in addition to their new material. Also, it's nice to see that they still seem to enjoy playing the fan favorites from You Forgot It In People. They even opened up the set with Guilty Cubicles from Feel Good Lost. Woah! Woodbirds were nice too--just wish the sound guy amped up the vocals a bit as it was tough to understand the two singers.

Waaay beyond expectations-in the best way possible

by lneidert on 9/13/10The National - Richmond

I've been a fan of Broken Social Scene for 5 years, ever since they released their self-titled album. While it's hard to describe their music fully sometimes, I know that it rocks! It has set the mood for so many changes in my life. The show was full of so much great sound, incredible energy by the band, and a constantly changing scene on stage. Plus they played over 2 hours, which is incredible.

    BSS Tops All Expectations

by jchook on 9/13/10The National - Richmond

The non-dancing hipster scene overtook the venue for the first quarter of the show. But once the band kicked into high gear not a soul was still -- dance swept over us all and Broken Social Scene played every song we wanted to hear (including Pacific Theme!!!!) By far the best concert I have ever seen in Richmond, VA.

Broken Social Scene at their best!

by myoldconcerttickets on 5/11/10Webster Hall - New York

I've seen Broken Social Scene 5 times before in varying settings, opening, main act, in a festival. They are often really good, but not usually hitting the quality of sound, setlist, and energy of the big indie hitters (e.g. radiohead, animal collective, arcade fire). With one of their first shows in support of their new album, Forgiveness Rock Record, they have set the bar quite high and reminded fans they were not just still relevant 8 years after releasing the seminal You Forgot It in People, but they were at the top of their game. The venue was small with bars on the sides, there was no opener and the band took the stage promptly at 8:40pm. They were energized and told the audience they were about to play for 2 hours. They simply rocked it for the entire 2 hours, Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw of Metric turned up to support, everything was fantastic. If there whole tour goes this well they'll be packing venues and getting calls to play arenas and amphitheaters this fall.

Not much to say. They played some great older songs. Some good new ones. There were a couple of boring moments but overall it was very enjoyable. And the crowd was so polite.

Holy hell -- I go to shows just about every week and this was among the BEST. I walked around grinning like an idiot afterward. It felt like love + drugs.
