About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

  • Brian was truly phenominal.

by LAMBarry1 on 9/16/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was phenominal. Brian and his band were truly amazing in every respect. The people on that stage were so talented, I was totally blown away. The music sounded great at the venue and it was so much fun watching the performances. Totally speechless.

  • great but too loud

by Anonymous on 9/16/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

I love Brian culbertson but I never expected the music to be so loud. I'm really happy one of the people who went with me had an extra pair of ear plugs. I've never attended an event at the Birchmere that was so loud. I even promised my friend that the music at the Birchmere is not ever loud. I had a wicked headache when I got home. Other than that I still like Brfian Culbertson's music just not so loud.

  • He's a study in "Genius"!

by BarbaraBill on 9/16/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Is it possible that he gets better every day? Our grown children came with us and got to see & hear him for the first time...they we blown away and are now looking for tickets for his next performance! Brian is the only keyboard player that actually plays keyboards like a percussion instrument. His horn playing is equally genius. His musicians love him, the audience loves him and God must love him, to have given him such a gift! If you have never experienced Brian Culbertson...put it on your Bucket List!

  • Brian Culbertson XII Tour

    by jazzyjanet57 on 9/15/10Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

The Brian Culbertson show at the Keswick was phenomenal! Brian's shows are always great but this one seemed to have even more energy. He is an amazing performer! He has so much energy and even more talent. Brian is just as talented on the trumpet, trombone and drums as he is on the keyboards! An unbelievable talent as well as a very nice guy. He truly enjoys performing for his fans and communicating with them on the internet, facebook, twitter, and before and after the shows. Brian is a one of a kind! He is not to be missed!

  • Absolutely Awesome!

by SciFiPrincess on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Where to start? I have always wanted to see him, and I was not disappointed. Brian Culbertson and his band were awesome. I just wanted to get up and dance! He was so energetic and very talented. He went from playing the keyboard to the trombone to the drums, and then the drums on keyboard! One of my favorite parts was when he did a duet with the drummer. I cannot wait until he comes to the DC area again! The man is amazing! I truly enjoyed his performance. I had to tell everyone about it the next day. If he visits your town, please go see him. He is so worth it! It was also a nice treat to see Avant, who was a special guest at this performance. Avant has such a nice voice, and they go well with Brian's melodies.

  • Brian Culbertson is ALWAYS amazing!

    by Ido4me on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Brian at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA on Monday night. As always, he was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the medley of songs he entertained us with from older material to XII. Avant was a wonderful surprise and I do love their collarboration on Skies Wide Open. His voice was smooth and mellow. I've seen Brian many, many times in concert at a land venue and even had the pleasure of seeing him perform on the Smooth Jazz Cruise. It's obvious that he loves what he does and continues to keep his material fresh and funky. I was pleasantly surprised to see that he played the drums, what a talented musician. The band was tight! They performed well together as a group and their individual moments were great as well. It would have taken me over the edge if Chuck Brown showed up and showed out to do the song that they perform together. Whenever Brian is in DC, MD, VA or PA, I will always take the time to go where he is and enjoy the music.

  • BAD Boy!!

  • My ears are still ringing!!!

by Chunsa on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

I want to emphasize Brian's music was indeed lovely. However, it was sooooooo loud that me and my husband had to hold our ears the whole time. The coziness of Birchmere was defeated since they played their music like a HUGE concert hall. If it was not so loud and if we did not have to step outside to hear it, their performance was fantastic. We will see him perform again, if they turn volume DOWN. The volume is the only reason I rated him very average.

  • Brian was Awesome...

I hadn't been to the Birchmere is a while, but after seeing Brian Culbertson there on Monday I'll definitely have to add it back to my list of favorite spots! Brian was great as always!

  • Brian Culbertson Delivers In A Big Way!

by HighPriest on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I recently saw Brian Culbertson at the Birchmere outside of Washington, DC. This was one of the best concerts, I've ever attended. Brian's musical mastery is not even up for discussion, so let's talk about his showmanship and rapport with the audience. B.C. worked the crowd and let us know that he knew he was in DC and gave us some arrangements that he knew we could identify with. The lyrics in the song by "Wild Cherry," are as follows: "Play that funky music white boy..." This clearly describes Brian Culbertson. The crowd was diverse in terms of age, race, gender and style. I will pay to see Brian Culbertson every time he comes to town.

  • Brian Culbertson is phenomenal!!

by Dapsugar on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Without a doubt B.C. is one of the most talented young musicians on the scene today. He plays a number of instruments with equal dexterity and always, always have some top notch musicians backing him up. His performance at the Birchmere was unforgettable and the special guest apperance by Avant put the icing on the cake. This is proabably my fifth time seeing B.C. and he has yet to disappoint!!

  • Brian Culbertson was outstanding

I thought the show was excellent. Brian has so much talent. He loves what he does and you can feel the energy when he's on stage. I saw him at the Jazz Festival this year for the first time and enjoyed him so much I had to see him again.

Brian Culbertson's performance was exceptional. I particularly liked that he played songs from his new release '12". His bandmates were also excellent musicians. I would definitely see him every time he comes to the area.

  • This Show was "OFF THE HOOK"

by MsMVP on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Brian is one of the most talented artists I know. Personality Plus!! Music was great. His band was superb. All of them unique in themselves. The house was packed! I Loved it. He was in Virginia. My cousin came all the way from Indian Land, SC to see him and now she's rushed back to Charleston to catch him again.

  • One of the best out there anywhere...

by LEKMuzic on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I've always been impressed with this young artist. He stands on his own without the need for support and delivers an awesome, energetic and engaging show every time. He is a wonder to watch! At the end of Brian solo performance of, "Forever," there was a moment of silence and a lone woman in the audience simply and earnestly said, "Thank you Brian."

  • Incredible!!
