About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

  • Brian Culbertson was hot and the band even hotter

    by cole4280 on 9/19/10Harrison Opera House - NorfolkRating: 4 out of 5

The only reason I didn't rate this five stars was the sound. I've heard Brian in concert before, in Raleigh NC and the sound was fantastic. I do sound myself and the speakers were not positioned right to give the best effect even to the people in the balcony. They were down too low and a lot of the dialog when Brian was speaking was lost. Most of the time his mic sounded too thin and distorted. I could tell he was a little frustrated but because he is a professional he didn't let it pull his attention away from the performance. I also could not hear the guitar until he came out with his solo. The bass just did not have the right amount of punch and bottom to it, though the bass player was tight. The drummer was awesome. Now he is what I would all a pocket drummer who knows how to do rolls when and where they are needed. He really kept the pace nice and tight all night long. Mr. Jordan is as much of a great singer as he is a saxophonist. This guy has mad skills and very personable also, my son and I met him after the show.

This was the first time I had been to his show, and it was a birthday gift to myself. I was totally amazed at how beautiful and passionate Brian is toward his audience. There really aren't any words to describe it but superb....kudos to you Brian, and I know that you have seen all the feedback on facebook which wasn't long after the show. I hope you know that you ROCK, and so does your band. God Bless you and keep you playing the beautiful music that you are so passionate about.

Best concert . To be totally honest, I was not familiar with Brian's music and did not know what to expect. We were blown away. Not only an amazing musician, but a true entertainer. I look forward to seeing him again in December with Dave Koz and Friends!!

  • Brian Culberston was AMAZING!!

We loved his performance...everyone on stage was GREAT! What a show. He is now one of our favorites.

  • Brian is awesome!!

by Tinmarhar on 9/19/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This is my second or third time seeing Brian in ATL, and he is an awesome and truly amazing artisit, in the truest sense of the word! This was my second time or so attending a concert at Center Stage, and while the venue is intimate, the seating is great, and acoustics are wonderful, the interior is old and the seats on the floor is absolutely horrible. They are banquet chairs that are uncomfortable and old and make the experience a little less enjoyable. Because the talent outweighs venue, I would still attend a concert at Center Stage

  • Brian Culbertson - Amazing

    by Jazzlady2 on 9/19/10Harrison Opera House - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Brian Culbertson Friday evening in Norfolk, VA. He and his group were amazing. A full two hour show of his best music. Don't miss it!

  • by kycats12 on 9/19/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

We were very surprised how accomplished a musican Brian was. The concert was fabulous. His albums are more mellow than his very upbeat concert. Great evening!

  • Amazing is all I can say!

by Chasjem on 9/19/10Harrison Opera House - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson truly is an amazingly gifted artist and his love music and his flare for entertainment made for one of the most truly enjoyable concert experiences we've seen. His boyish charm kept us laughing while his music kept us grooving. This was our first time seeing him but trust me, it will most certainly NOT be our last! Our only regret is that we didn't bring our teens as they would have enjoyed Brian as much as we did, and they're not particularly fond of jazz. Come back soon, Brian Culbertson!

  • Best perfomance by Brian to date!!!

by Sasheen on 9/19/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing Brian in concert. He's extremely talented and excites the audience with the many instruments he plays including playing the piano from the backside (never seen that done before)! Avant came out to sing his song and that was a plus. I would love to see a concert with him and a few other R&B or jazz musicians, that would be an unbelievable show. Overall, for the performance we saw for the price we paid I feel Brian Culbertson gave us half price tickets for an over the top, wonderful show!!!

  • Brian is the MAN!!!

by Sapphirebleu on 9/17/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I fell in love with Brian from the first time I saw him at the Liberty Jazz Festival in 2008!!! His energy is contagious throughout his band and the audience!!! His instrumental skills are incredible, but what he does to that piano...aawww maaaan, just phenominal!!! I have been a follower of Frankie Beverly and Maze and of Mint Condition for a very long time now. Now, I'm adding Brian Culbertson to that list!!!

  • Amazing!!

by Janecticut on 9/17/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ticketmaster has 5 categories in their ratings guide but they can drop 4 of them when it comes to Brian Culbertson. The only possible rating you can award a his show is "Amazing!" We've seen Brian before and will see him again every time he's anywhere near us (or even not-so-near.) It was another great, high-energy, two-hour show at BB King's in NY and at this venue, there's not a bad seat in the house....everything is nice & cozy and it makes for a very personal setting to enjoy the band. Avant made a special guest appearance and sang his collaborative effort from Brian's "XII" CD, "Skies Wide Open." Nice job! To those of you who've seen Brian before, you won't be disappointed - it's another winner! For those of you who have not heard of Culby or been to one of his shows, you're in for a treat. He's pretty-much carved out an exclusive niche with all the best of Smooth Jazz, Pop and R&B (with Funk being the cornerstone - this boy can funk with the best of 'em!) Great show - highly recommended!!

My wife and two childhood friends travelled from Boston to New York City to see Brian Culbertson. This man was amazing! His showmanship, Music, Arrangements were all on point. Brian is personable and makes you feel comfortable, by his mannerisms and the way he talks to his audience. I have told everyone how great this man is! He is the funkiest Caucasian gentleman I have every witnessed -- This boy is baaaaadd!!!. The trip to New York we well worth it, my boss even went. May God Blees this man as he travels the world bringing happiness to everyone he plays with and to. I hope he comes to Boston soon. The icing on the cake was, we ran into him walking down the street. We called to him and he came over and we all had a nice conversation. We thanked him for the show, he thank us for coming from Boston. He is a very gracious and humble man, --- we love him!
