About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

  • What a great show!

    by Rondob4 on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

I've never seen Brian play before, but he is a true gem - his piano skills are amazing, particularly his ability to play it backwards! You have to see it to believe it. The whole band was tight and worked well together. The show ran a full two hours and afterward Brian came to the outer area and signed autographs for over an hour. You can't ask for more. On the downside, it was way too loud in the Birchmere. I attend a lot of shows there, and this was - by far - the loudest show I've attended...unnecessarily loud. There is a point where volume begins to diminish the experience, not enhance it, and the sound guy breached it.

  • Brian Culbertson High Energy Performance

    by luv2trvl on 9/15/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson is an extremely talented musician who truly gives the audience their money's worth. I enjoyed his showmanship, his high energy performance, and his ability to connect with the audience as well as his interaction with his band members who were also good in their own right.

Brian just continues to get better and better! What a fantastic show. He puts you in the mood whether for dancing, singing along, remincing. He is someone you don't ever want to miss. My girlfriend and I never miss one.

This event can not be described in words. You MUST see this guy in person!! Rarely is an artist better in person than on the well scripted CDs. Brian is unbelievable! The talent level can not be matched. I sat with a gentleman and his wife, that had seen him 5 times before, and raved about him. He was right. On top of that the food at the Birchmere was incredible. I was shocked at how good thae food was.

The hardest working man in contemporary jazz. Brian Culbertson and his band always give you their best and the Keswick concert was exceptional. A balnced blend of old and new music kept people on their feet. I can't wait to see him again!

  • Brian Culbertson - WOW!!!

    by Content51 on 9/13/10Jefferson Center - RoanokeRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Brian Culbertson Friday, September 10, 2010, at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA. Wow is putting it mildly. It was my first jazz show and now I want to see him again and again! The energy and excitement he puts forth is amazing. I would recommend anyone loving music to attend one of his venues when given the opportunity. I'm already looking at his list of events to see if there is one I can make even up to 4 hours away! Thank you Brian for a most memorable evening! And one more thing, to be able to see him face to face and have him autograph the CD I purchased was just one more highlight of the night!

This was my second time seeing Brian Culbertson live; the first was this past summer with Dave Koz. He is a fantastic performer with amazing talent, he really gives of himself and his music completely. I love the way he interacts with the audience and his style on stage. I am a true fan of "soft jazz" and would like to see more offered in my area. Thank you.

  • Brian Culbertson Holiday '09 Tour

by ScottW on 12/10/09Fine Line Music Cafe - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

I have been a fan of Brian for a long time (15 years). But his live shows should not be missed. He is the consummate entertainer and showman. His band is tight and talented. He engages with the audience and obviously enjoys what he does. Michael Lington was the guest sax man and did a nice job, although does not have the charisma or stage presence that Brian does. See Brian if you can. It is a lot of fun.

  • AWESOME!

by Spooky on 12/10/09Fine Line Music Cafe - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson is the most dynamic live jazz performer ever. He performs with such passion and enthusiam that it gets you right into every note. His fellow performer Michael Lington on Sax was also incredible. This is possibly the best concert I have ever been to.
