About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

This is a small venue, and there weren't very many people there. Bad for them....lucky for us!! It was almost like a private concert! Brian and his band are very talented! \ We loved it!!!!

  • No Words to Describe the Music

Thanks for the opportunity to comment. The show was absolutely AWESOME. I saw the Sunday matinee show at the Ramshead in Annapolis on Sunday, and the show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va on Monday. The Norfolk show was the best. I experienced the love in the audience for AVANT at both the Sunday and Monday shows, BUT, Marqueal's rendition in Norfolk was AMAZING and better in my opinion. I appreciate Avant's talent, but Marqueal's pipes are clearer, crisper and more precise than Avant's. The chemistry between the members of the tour group is infectious and causes you to have a good time whether you want to or not. You have to get the funky face and feel good! The music is simply delicious, inviting, intriguing, and awe-inspiring. You can't hide genius and that word truly describes Brian. PLEASE keep on making the music and keep on collaborating. Your sharing spirit is inspirational for music lovers like me! Thanks for the magic, the music and the love. You are the best. Hope to see you on the cruise.

This was an amazing concert...Brian is one bad jazz musician. His skills are insurmountable. I had never seen him in concert...but it would be something I would definitely do again. My better half is a connoisseur of music and Brian had him start struck. Actually our going was a surprise for my better half...and one he will cherish forever. I am forever a BC fan!!!

Brian (and his band) were fabulous - they interacted with the crowd - they brought the cutest little lady on stage and she went right along with all of it - so cute I will definately attend his next concert and post it on facebook for all my friends to see. The release of his newest CD "XII" is going to be a huge success! Go Brian - Also love the radio show each morning on Hampton Virginia 107.7

  • BRIAN CULBERTSON WAS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

    by NESSIE920 on 9/20/10Harrison Opera House - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

I attended Brian Culbertson's concert on 09/17/10, in Norfolk, VA at the Harrison Opera House, and it was "the best" concert I've attended in the last few years. The first time I witnessed how great he is, was at Norfolk's Town Point Park Jazz Festival in 2006. Seeing him perform there was the reason I attended the concert at the Harrison Opera House on 09/17/10. I can't wait to see him again in this area. Hopefully, at the Town Point Park Jazz Festival in 2011, because it's my favorite summer event. Love You Brian!!

The event was truly amazing. Brian and his band are excellent muscians and provided nonstop entertainment. I loved the fact there was no opening act, they just jumped right into jamming.

  • Brian is an Entertainer

by Anonymous on 9/20/10Center Stage Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Brian surprisingly made going to a smooth jazz concert exciting. He brings a high level of energy and pazzaz to his shows. Definitely worth seeing again and the venue was awesome (i.e., small and intimate, good sound system, and good location).

  • Brian was so hot and funky!!!

by KBMoly on 9/20/10Harrison Opera House - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

I had seen Brian before, but this concert was the best ever. My 19 year old daughter was with me, and she was equally impressed. He was hot and funky with a serious groove!!!

Brian Culbertson is a stellar perrformer. He pumped up the crowd. He was smoooth, jazzy, thumpin, and sensational. His band was awesome. He received and deserved standing ovations throughout the show. I can't wait for him to perform again in the Hampton Roads area. I will see him whenever he's in my town!!!

  • Brian Culbertson rocks ... uh ... jazzes!

by DeeTil on 9/19/10Harrison Opera House - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show. The music was great, songs that we have grown to love and new ones as well. The musicians playing with him were top notch, and Brian gives a great show. Very entertaining. We could tell that everyone around us was enjoying the concert as well. We immediately went online when we got home and got tickets for his next appearance in this area with Dave Koz on December 7th.

He's an amazing musician , who lets the auduience in on the fun he has onstage with his bandmates. This is the third time I've seen him in the last 7 years, and the personnell may change, but the quality and atmosphere never do.
