Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.
Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.
Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.
I thought the concert was good. I think he spent a little too much time talking and focusing on the band.
That was one of best concerts I have ever seen. It was so much fun. The crowd, the atmosphere, the vibe. Everything was fantastic. I would totally see him again.
I am a devoted fan of Brian Culbertson, and try to go to his all his concerts in nearby locations. He is a very talented jazz artist, and I am always amazed at his versatility on the keyboard, trombone, drums... He is also a great entertainer. He dominates the stage in a good way, but always showcases his other band members. He is truly an outstanding jazz artist, and he did not disappoint this fan at the Fraze.
Average White Band was so great - the band, the solos, they were on. We left halfway though Culbertson - was name dropping big-time inbetween songs, and had the same improv notes each time.
I've seen Brian Culbertson before and he just blew me away. Took a friend along this time and she agreed with me. She said "I think I love this guy". I told her that most bands get on stage and perform and also do it well, but Brian Culbertson entertains at a high level. He surrounds himself with top notch musicians and plays the kind of music that he obviously loves to play. It shows in his stage performance. Never a dull or dissapointing moment. With the ultimate entertainer and the greatest venue to see him, how could you go wrong?
Absolutely an amazing time was thrilled to see Average White Band but enjoyed Brian Culbertson more than anything; will definitely see him again!
This was the best summer concert I have been to by far!! The world is a better place because he shares his musical gifts on such a personal level. His ability to interact with the crowd and leave us wanting more is an example of excellent presence within our fragmented world. Please keep up the good work Brian see you next year!!7/7/2011
The Fraze puts on several types of shows . When it comes to their jazz venues they are very nicely done and artisit that people want to see. Brian Culbertson and the AWB were super! in their perspective shows I would recommend anyone who has not seen these two perfomers , youre missing out on onsome good jazz!
This is the fourth time I've seen BC and his band and they continue to deliver a thoroughly entertaining high energy concert. Simply put they "bring it" and man did they do that Thursday night at the Fraze. It was an awesome show, I think the best I've been to !
Brian Culbertson and his band put on a really great show. They gave the crowd their money's worth and more. I wish I would have gone to his show in Columbus at the Vonn Jazz club to see if the show was different. Brian, you and your band did a hell of a job. AVB was very good and I enjoyed them but sorry Culbertson and crew are in another league.
This concert was fantastic. The weather cooperated so well, and AWB was even better than we recalled. Every number, from each of them, was really well performed and the acoustics were amazing. Each individual clearly talented - the sax, drums, horns, guitar and keyboards - we bought CD's from each band afterwards. Thanks to Fraze for putting on these great shows. WHY were there empty seats? My gosh, you missed a great one if you didn't go.
Culbertson and his band were great! He is the best jazz pianist in my opinion, and he always has a talented band to back him up. He plays a great trombone too.
THE ENTIRE SHOW WAS OUTSTANDING,FOOTSTOMPING,AND WORTH EVERY MINUTE. I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING TO SEE BRIAN CULBERTSON ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.
Great show....so much energy and passion. Really connected with the crowd ...great solo by him on the keyboard esp the reverse one...amazing! A great guitar solo by (sorry...forgot his name!)....he sounded like Carlos Santana.... They all are great musicians....very very good show!

Real music Real musicians. Brian Culbertson is an amazing talent. He gives 1000% to his fans every single show. Brian is a true talent and master of his craft.
Brian was fantastic. Really enjoyed hearing a mix of his old stuff along with some new.
The sound and atmosphere was great and the bands both were awesome would see them again anywhere!!
My husband & I have seen Brian about 10 times over the last few years; each and every time he is AMAZING, playing with all his heart & soul. We have all his CD's and have added them to our IPODS. The man is talented beyond belief. SO glad he's making this one stop in Michigan. LOVE you Brian!!!!!!!
I saw Brian perform at Yoshi's San Francisco and I was absolutely blown away. His show was positively one of the very best I have ever witnessed "seriously". He gave his all and all - I told everyone about this guy. I can't wait for him to come back to the Bay Area, when he does I'll will be there with a group of friends. THIS GUY IS HIGH ENERGY!!!!!!!
Absolutely amazing show. This man is very talented and is a great performer. Definitely someone to keeps your eyes on and your ears open for. I would recommend anyone looking for good music to listen to to check him out.
