About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

  • Fantastic Concert - A must see, must hear!

by MNCoolJazz on 8/27/12Burnsville Performing Arts Center - BurnsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts we have been to! We saw Brian with David Benoit a few months ago. This was as good if not better. Brian is a great performer. Engages the audience with how he moves around the stage. His passion for his music comes across.

  • Exciting

The music was outstanding. David mixed extremely well into the group but Brian was pure entertainment and his keyboards made the whole event exciting. Enjoyed it all immensely.

From the beginning to the end the concert was great. Culbertson and Sanborn really played well together and complimented each other.

I am a longtime fan of David Sanborn and have seen him a few times and he never disappoints. This was my first time seeing Brian Culbertson and was I impressed. These are two talented guys that showed their stuff in a high energy, incredible performance. Their back up band was awesome, one the mark, not missing a beat. Brian's trombone playing was excellent, a perfect accent to David's sweet sounding sax. The playlist was perfect, old stuff, new stuff with only a couple of slower tunes we could use for drink orders and bathroom breaks. The interaction between these two and the crowd was very entertaining. It was obvious to me that these guys really enjoyed being up there and performing. All in all it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

We had gone for our 31st Wedding Anniversary and joint birthdays! It was awesome! The energy of the concert was super! They both played many of their respective hits and both participated in playing all songs played! Overall, it was a fantastic night!

  • Unforgettable!

    by salata on 8/23/12Potawatomi Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Expo Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

David and Brian were perfect although I went specifically to see Brian. I told him he was on my bucket list and he held my hand, such a sweet man. 2 drum sets, 3 keyboards, sax, guitars, what more could you ask for. The songs were so expertly done I thought I was listening to his tracts. Very upbeat, and energizing. The theater was the perfect size with excellent accoustics and not a bad seat in the house. It truely was unforgettable!

  • Awesome duo

by DLBBCH on 8/20/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

I was blown away by the music. I had not seen David Sanborn live in over 11 years and he was as energetic and amazing as the last time. Brian Culbertson was the first for me seeing live and he too was spectacular. By far as a musician myself, I am in wonderment. These two and their bands are well deserving of all hands clapping until the sun goes down. Just amazing!

  • Dream Tour at the Mahaffey was a wonderful Dream

    by Mae32 on 8/20/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

This venue was amazing. Great sound, seats and overall experience, Perfect size. The audience was energetic and so into the music and performances - it was an exciting concert from start to finish. Then the music - absolutely fantastic - great mix of funk & smooth jazz with some wonderful solos thrown in. The dueling drums were really special. The musicians all looked like they were having a great time and it rubbed off on the whole audience. I was watching from the balcony and the audience was all bopping and moving around - it was a show in itself.

  • I was a first-timer!

by EvCJ on 8/20/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing David Sanborn in concert and I was amazed. I love The Mahaffney and drove from Jacksonville to St. Pete and it was well worth it. These two on stage together in one of my favorite venues is something I will never forget. I took my grandson with me and I love the fact that Brian acknowledged the younger audience; he had a blast! If this tour is coming to your city or a city near you, I highly recommend you don't miss out!

  • Brian Culbertson & David Sanborn - The Dream Tour

    by Brenda33 on 8/20/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was fantastic! After all these years David Sanborn still sounds amazing and Brian C's energy and effervescence is contagious! The whole ensemble was outstanding! I’d recommend this tour to anyone, money well spent!

First off, the venue was first class all the way. Sound was even better and the show was great- Just what I needed. Can't wait to come to Mahaffey for the next event of smooth jazz or whatever show I want to see

  • Loud

by Beachgrandma on 8/19/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed it but it was too loud for me. When we saw Brian Culbertson the last time he was with David Benoit and it was only the two of them playing piano. This had two drummers, two key board players besides Brian, a bass and a guitar and David's saxophone. It was great music but too loud for me in a small space.

excellent show upbeat beautiful music the crowd was great it wa s a beautiful evening the acoustics were good

  • by CandyDee on 8/18/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was awesome!!! The audience did not do it justice...they were too laid back. It was an older crowd that did not seem to appreciate a quality performance. They only stood up and dance off of one song. However, that didn't stop me from getting my groove on. I danced the night away for everyone. Culbertson announced his new venture...Jazz and Wine Tasting during the month of June in California. I have three words for you Mr. Culbertson...see you there! I can't wait.

  • Culbertson ignites the stage once again!

by launaco on 8/18/12The Mahaffey - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing duo. Brian playing backwards on the piano was definitely a highlight. David was equally amazing. He shared a personal story with the audience that took place in St. Pete years ago with his mother and dedicated a song to her. Over all a great performance.
