About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

Awesome, Awesome and Awesome! I had such a great time. The weather was Beautiful. The crowd was mature and responsive and interactive. IThis is the second time I have seen Brian and I am even more so a fan! I loved the new band/Situation as well as some of the new arrangements/solos. I even like the fact that he is supportive of others careers and put them and their gifts on Display. I jokenly told my husband that Brian has officially been given "A HOOD PASS in the D" ha ,ha, ha, Still reminicing about last week!

by KayKayBES on 7/27/13Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I will plan to see him every time he comes to Detroit! He gave an excellent show. My only wish is that he performed the entire show as sadly Kimmie Horne was well, horrible. Sorry Kimmie but maybe if you sang / performed your own music it may have been better!

He puts on an AMAZING show for his fans.! He interacts with us and is very comical as well. His music is unforgettable. He plays all of his jams. I've seen Brian about 4 times now and all of his shows are different. He manages to put a twist in his show. I love it!

  • BRIAN CULBERTSON WAS AMAZING

by Deemazing on 7/27/13Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts I attended this year!!!! Brian and his band and singers were very entertaining and did not disappoint at all. Brian played the piano backward (amazing). He's a multi-instrumental musician (keyboard, piano, trombone, drums, bass, trumpet, euphonium and percussion) a one man show. You feel the raw emotion in his music which makes a memorable evening, Thanks Brian, you did that

  • Mr. Energy

by redheadedfloozie on 7/27/13Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson has more funk and energy than anyone I've seen on stage. This was another great show and I loved every minute. Kimmie Horne was great, too. And the female artist in Brian's new band was OUTSTANDING. Chene Park is my favorite venue in the area and worth the drive from NW Ohio.

Excellent. It was a little loud. He had 2 backup singers so he had more vocals. We really were satisfied when it was just him on the piano.

Brian and his band are absolutely wonderful. The high energy performance took hold of the audience and never let loose. I highly recommend his concerts to anyone who enjoys great music and look forward to seeing him again next year.

  • EXCELLENT.....AS USUAL

    by GFT7620 on 4/26/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I was at the June, 2012 concert at the Birchmere when Brian Culbertson performed with David Sanborn. That concert was excellent, and this performance by Culbertson was even better, in my opinion. While he shared the stage in the previous show, he was on his own this time. This allowed him the time to really "stretch out" and expand his performance. His show was great, and I'm looking forward to his return next year.

  • Bring Back the Gang

by HiMaintenance on 4/18/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

First of all, let me just say: I LOVE BRIAN CULBERTSON. He has made some changes to his group and unfortunately, I was not feeling the magic. Ms Albright was also excellent as his new backup but it seemed like Brian was working doubly hard to carry the show. This is not uncharacteristic of Brian, after all he is a showman, but the others were not pulling their weight, IMO. Of course he was righteous on Barry White's Secret Garden and Earth, Wind, and Fire's Serpentine Fire. The show was good but not up to what I'm used to. I'd still recommend....he's a hard working young musician/artist.

  • Brian Culbertson was amazing!

by Moanne on 4/17/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Brian Culbertson at several jazz festivals and he was good but seeing him in a smaller, intimate setting was amazing. Him and his band came out jamming. The was the best jazz concert I've ever attended. I can't wait until he comes back to town.

  • Brian Culbertson was fantastic!

  • Brian is truly an entertainer! He was awesome!

    by Rondo1 on 4/17/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Brian has some new band members with a couple of vocalists that were fantastic. The place was packed however the service was outstanding. The food was much better than expected and full of flavor. Brian opened up with a few of his funky tunes and then moved to some ballads. He played several of his older songs including secret gardens. He even delivered more on his encore. I have seen him live about five times and he never fails to deliver an outstanding concert. I only regret not staying later for his autograph. His new album is great and I would always recommend him in a live setting
