About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

  • Brian Culbertson in Cobb

by Catchaser32 on 10/20/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was one bad, mamma-jamma of a concert!! Culbertson is smoother than the other side of the pillow. The Cobb Energy Center was "tow up from the flo up!"

  • Really bad imitation of Ramsey Lewis!!

by Cyclopeaneye on 10/20/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

Wow, I can't believe this Brian Culbertson headlines anything, he plays virtually the same song with a really weak melody over and over with a different name. He repeats the same improvised lines over and over on his piano solos and his trombone playing is like a decent high school player. Norman Brown on the other hand, was the real jazz artist tonight. Playing homage to George Benson and Wes Montgomery. Great player and used a great backup band w Sonny Emory on Drums!! Just shocked that people would buy his stuff. Brian listen to Rodney Franklin "The Groove" and please find yours. Compositions and playing are very average. Norman Brown is a consummate jazz guitarist.

  • Brian Culbertson Great show

by Mimmette on 10/20/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

His summer show was good, but this one was intimate, and the performances were off of the chart. He covered his twenty year career, mixing old and new, and again showed why he is talented, versatile and professional in every way. Norman Brown was outstanding as well. Performance time was great, and everyone hated to see the show end.

  • Jazzier than JAZZ

by Muzik2know on 10/20/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson and his band just blew my wife and I out of the hall!!! They received standing ovation after standing ovation. This was the BEST concert I have ever witnessed. Any descriptive words I use to describe this event would fall far short of what it was. It was actually too much to take in. You would have had to seen it to believe it. When he returns, we won't miss it!!!

  • Simply awesome

by Anonymous on 8/13/14Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time this year seeing Brian Culbertson and each show is more amazing than the last. I was fortunate enough to have been able to catch a part of the sound check and had an opportunity to meet and take pictures with him. Such a wonderfully nice man.

  • Another Superb Summer Culbertson Concert!

by DeeDeeDetroit on 8/11/14Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson's recent concert at Chene Park was superb. That man knows how to have a great time on stage and make sure that every single person in the audience is doing the same. This was his 20th anniversary since making his first record, a record that he has recently re-recorded. That music still stands today as outstanding. It was great to hear so many of his "hits". His back up band was outstanding. This is the concert I always look forward to each summer and hope he never stops including Detroit on his summer itinerary.

by mswtaz on 8/9/14Chene Park - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing and was easily one of the best concerts we have ever attended. Brian and the band came out on fire and continued non-stop until the concert was over. We intend to see him again next year if he returns.
