About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

One of the best shows I have seen in a long while!! Great funk - such a soulful soul. I was so pumped and happy when I left. My husband and I will go back, without doubt, ANYTIME he is in the area!!!

  • Probably the best concert I have EVER been to!

Wow!!!! From the moment Brian and crew hit the stage it was non-stop fantastic musicianship and energy. I took my wife and daughter. They became instant Jazz and Brian Culbertson fans. The show was so energetic and music so good that everybody was out of their seats dancing most of the show! I am a musician of almost 40 years and I was absolutely amazed at how good his band is. The sounds was awesome too. The only problem we had was not carrying cash. After the show Brian was autographing CDs that he had for sale. They only accepted cash and my daughter, wife, and I only carry cards (since the venue is so close to our home) . They don't even have an ATM machine there. I would have probably popped for at least 3 CDs since I don't have any. Oh well, we'll get him to sign some next time. I will absolutely see him again any and every chance I get!

  • WOW!

by atljazzlover on 10/23/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Pleasantly surprised to find that Norman Brown was the opener! What a guitarist! But I have to say that Brian Culbertson is not only a gifted keyboard player, but also an incredible trombone artist as well! And such a showman too! This was not a "sit in your seat" show. This was a get up and dance concert! My wife and I have not had that much fun at a concert in a long time. If you get the chance to see him, do not miss it!

  • Brian Culberson is a MUST see in Person

by 1JazzJunkie on 10/23/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I'm a huge fan of Brian Culberson and his band. This is my 7th time to see him live and he always is reinventing himself. I took my sister and her boyfriend to the concert. This was their first jazz experience. I told them to get ready, you will be amazed with his musical talent and energy level. She said you describe the format, but until you see him LIVE she didn't get it. Good job Brian, you have two more fans! Looking forward to experiencing a Napa Valley event!

  • Brian culbertson and Norman brown were amazing !!!

by Nursetdh7716 on 10/21/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was excellent. We drove 4 hours to hear Brian culbertson since we saw him at the sunset jazz festival in July, we know he is a great entertainer. Norman brown was a pleasant surprise. A great musician also that lives in atlanta. I started following Brian and if he close by I drive to see him. My goal is to one year get to the napa wine festival or the smooth jazz cruise in 2016 ,so I can enjoy musicians for more than one week. My fiancée was listening to jazz when I met him and I have fell in love with jazz. If possible Brian needs to be part of any jazz festival . One if the best musicians around with a great band . I live the drummer in Brian's band also .

What a 40 year celebration for WCLK and 20 year Celebration for Brian!

  • Norman Brown and Brian Culbertson did it big!

by BrenWilson on 10/21/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

What can we say about the melodious sounds of Norman Brown as he seduces his guitar into a passionate performance. His humble presence and love for people and music is evident as he provides the recipe to connect us no matter who we are or where we are from. Simply unifying. I am still out of breath from the energy packed performance of Brian Culbertson. From the first song till the last, his energy took us on a journey of old an new tunes that no one else could do as well as him. Absolutely one of the best concerts I have attended in a long time.

This concert was entertainment at its best. Norman brown did old and new music as well as jazz classics. Brian was also a showman, his energy on stage is contagious, and I love how his love for what he is doing comes through the music.
