About

Over the course of crafting a 29-album catalog and architecting 40 Billboard #1 singles as a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Label him jazz and he makes a funk record. Call him an R&B artist and he drops an acoustic jazz trio collection. And you'd be hard pressed to name another instrumentalist of his ilk who can mount an elaborately designed concert production that will keep him on the road for three consecutive months.

Culbertson burst onto the scene in 1994 with a chart-topping album that he recorded in his college apartment featuring keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been going back and listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician such as David Sanborn, The Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny & others in the jazz fusion world.

Whether you're listening to music from "Day Trip" on record or live in concert, you're hearing an eclectic, entertaining and engaging set from an artist at the peak of his power.

  • Best concert ever!

by sierrabay on 1/27/15Gem Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

We go to LOTS of concerts and this one has to be my absolute favorite of all. Brian and his band were so incredible. I've never seen anyone enjoy playing music as much as he did.

This show was exciting from beginning to end. It had a built in intermission and it was well worth the time and money. If you ever have the chance to check out this artist., do it without hesitation.

The music was hot! Brian played selections from all his albums and each one sounded better than the recording! The band was tight and fabulous.

Brian Culbertson's jazz concert was amazing to say the least! Congratulations on your 20th year anniversary!!!!! I had a wonderful time watching Brian make beautiful music on that piano and occasionally transition and play the trombone as well, he was off the chain!!!!! He gave a performance that I'll never forget.... I can't wait until he comes back to Kansas City...... I also plan on making it to his Napa Valley Jazz Concert in June, I can't wait to see Brian perform again!!!!!

Brian recognizes talent and had it in spades in his band--a group of high-energy gentlemen who know how to work the crowd.

  • Brain Culbertson

by Vshopper on 11/24/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

Show was good however Brian didn't give his attention to the complete audience. He focused on the floor seats and not those in either balcony. Everyone paid to see him but no interaction with the complete audience left me feeling a little salty.

  • Brian Culbertson was fantastic

by IngaDG on 11/24/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Prior to one month or so I had not heard of Brian Culbertson. My Fiancé played his CD for me and I liked it. I went to the concert and OH MY GOODNESS! THIS GUY IS unbelievably talented and funny, and knows how to throw a party. That's right, this was no concert it was a party. I loved it! Hated that it had to end. Would love to go to Napa Valley, but have too much to do. But I will be there whenever he comes back to the east coast.

  • Absolute Energetic Entertaining Enjoyment

by NoSense on 11/24/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This show was definitely very satisfying. Been a fan for a while but never saw Brian Culbertson LIVE. My wife was unaware of his talents but is a fan for life now. The venue size made the show very intimate and personable. This was not a sit back and listen show. Brian and the band were engaging as they consistently delivered high quality and well constructed sounds. Each spotlight solo was magical especially the drummer. I know I probably sound like a well placed plant with my review. I'm not. Just a very satisfied fan for life. Don't believe me, then check out Brian yourself whenever you can. You'll see.

This is is my second time seeing Brian. I brought my new husband this time, because he had never heard of him. Now he is even talking about taking a Jazz cruise to see Brian and other jazz artists.

  • Brian Culberston brought the house down!

Great high energy show. (and he can slow it down too!) Seen him numerous times and this was his best. Very talented band. A superb evening.

Fantastic show, more than I expected. Brian was great and his musicians were very, very good. I spoke to Brian after the show suggesting that he mention where the musician were from when he introduced them and though he was receptive to the suggestion he appeared to be suffering from "I'm a star" syndrome and appeared a little rude. Nevertheless, I have already told friends in other cities that Brian is a must see act.

This was our first time to see Brian and I got these tickets for my husband for father's day. We soooooo enjoyed this concert! Brian has more energy than the puppy we just adopted - LOVED IT!!!! He's amazingly talented and so personable. Would love to go again in the future and would recommend anyone that likes his music to go see him in person - truly unforgettable!!!! Thank you Brian for sharing your talent.

Brian Culbertson is a master entertainer-on the keys he is at home....He brings the funk and still has the sultry touch of smooth jazz that melts your heart!.

  • Go see it!

by srshellsrs on 11/24/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Been listening to Brian Culbertson for awhile but was on the fence about going. Made my decision based on the quality of reviews here regarding the show. I was not disappointed! Exceeded my expectations...it was a concert, but it was more than just playing familiar tunes it was a show that was engaging and it was worth what I paid to attend. If you're a fan of his music and never seen him live...make it happen! He did stay afterwards to sign CDs and was gracious throughout for pictures and the starstruck fans who wanted to spend a little extra time with him. Not one bad thing to say about this experience.

  • Brian ..a whole buch of energy

by ctzx on 11/24/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Great venue ...just a bit too loud.. couldn't always hear the vocals. The band was awesome, a very multi talented group of musicians. Brian has sooo much energy and puts on a great show.
