About

Boys Like Girls are a pop-rock band that formed in 2005. The quartet skyrocketed up the charts with anthemic singles like “The Great Escape” and “Love Drunk,” with the latter’s accompanying music video featuring High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale. Their two breakthrough singles were followed by a sweeping emo-tinged ballad featuring Taylor Swift, “Two Is Better Than One,” which helped the band’s second album (2009’s Love Drunk) land in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2012, the band’s frontman Martin Johnson began writing/producing music for everyone from blink-182 to Avril Lavigne, leading to Boys Like Girls going on hiatus (reforming sporadically to tour between 2016 and 2020). In May 2023, the band released “Blood and Sugar,” the first single from their upcoming fourth album and their first new song in over a decade.

  • Crowd loved Boys Like Girls

    by daphne90 on 7/16/09Chameleon Club - LancasterRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Boys Like Girls at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA (great venue by the way). Exceptionally fun band who sounded better live than on CD (which is not the case for a lot of bands). Great energy throughout the concert and a wide range of ages in the crowd (which surprised me actually). I am not very familiar with Boys Like Girls, and still thought they were a great band to see live.

  • Boys Like Girls are back and ROCKIN the house!

  • Boys Like Girls put on a great show as always!

by ChristinB on 7/16/09Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

This is my 5th time seeing Boys Like Girls and every time they seem to impress me even more!! I had a great time at the show and I would definitely go back! The venue was great as well because it was such an intimate experience!

  • Two Out Of Three Outstanding Acts

by josiahsglock on 7/15/09Chameleon Club - LancasterRating: 3 out of 5

It was a full house for this trio of bands. The music of Never Shout Never and The Ready Set was beautiful, melodious and musically well executed. All of the boys were polite and respectful to the audience who were primarily young teenage girls, many accompanied by parents. Both acts were as wholesome as you would hope them to be to such an audience and both deserve five-stars and the highest recommendation. Then came Boys Like Girls. While they did have a superior light show and superior sound mix, and there musicianship and sound were excellent, their banter from the stage between songs was crude and vulgar. Little girls were wincing to be called 'bitches' by the band's singer and parents were outright appalled when the band repeatedly referred to their teenage audience with the most vulgar term for their private part. The place began to clear out shortly thereafter. So disgusting and degenerate was the band's behavior that I wouldn't even recommend them to those who are covered in hellish tattoos and full of body piercings. My suggestion? Boys Like Girls should have been forced to walk a guantlet of their audience members and have their mouths individually and thoroughly washed out with soap.

  • I was amazed

    by Jk92 on 7/15/09The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

I was blown away by the energy onstage by all of the performers. I waited for 4 hours just to get into the venue and it wasn't wasted. I hadn't known much of The Ready Set's music, but I was turned into an instant fan. They seemed like they really enjoyed playing. Also Christofer Drew of Nevershoutnever!, kept everyone occupied before the show by coming out multiple times into the waiting crowd. Nevershoutnever!'s set was also unbelievable with Christofer's ability to keep the crowd hyped. Boys Like Girls showed their fans a great time when they came onstage as well. After the show, I was lucky enough to get pictures and signatures from all of The Ready Set, and a signature from Christofer Drew. Overall, I would recommend seeing these performers to any.

by Kelsisco on 7/15/09Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 4 out of 5

I have been to many concerts! and this has got to be one my favorites i love it how the lead singer is always interacting with the crowd and at the end when stage dives and crowd surfs now that was awesome i even go that in video what an amazing concert who ever didn't missed out big time!

  • One of the best concerts ever!!

by Ashleyalltimelow on 7/15/09Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

i loved this concert because i loved all three bands, i was very close to the stage and i met one of my favorite bands =] the only bad thing was everyone pushing to be in the front and falling on each other. i also liked the outdoor section for the merch stuff and the drinks.

  • AMAZING!

by PunkChick on 7/15/09Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

As soon as Boys Like Girls hit the stage it was non-stop energy and fun. They put on such a amazing show there aren't enough words to describe how awesome it is! They love their music, their fans, what they do and it shows.

  • Great Concert

by muddaconch on 7/15/09Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

If you enjoy mosh pits and lots of sweaty teens with parents standing in the background, a Boys Like Girls concert is the place for you. They are very interactive with their audience, and Martin even crowd surfed at the end... twice! I got one of his water bottles and then a drumstick at the end. They put on a great performance, and overall it was an excellent night!

  • Must have lost his voice

by BDWoodruff on 7/15/09State Theatre - St PetersburgRating: 1 out of 5

For an adult, I'm a huge Boys Like Girls fan. I really like their sound: clean with a lot of harmony and emotion. I was hugely disappointed in the show. The two opening acts, which I hadn't heard of, were fine. The crowd loved 'em. But when BLG came on, it all went down hill. The lead singer hit none of the higher notes, and often switched to a spoken-word style of singing. To break from that, he would often hold the microphone out to the crowd to spare us the failings of his vocal chords. The kids in the crowd still seemed to have a great time, but I gotta say is was terrible. I sat through two opening acts after a hour and a half drive and I left before BLG had finished. I could take no more. I hope he just lost his voice; but you can't market a sound like theirs and provide a live performance like that. The venue, the State Theatre in St Pete, is superb. It's intimate, with good acoustics, a great balcony...there were even couches up on the balcony. I will definitely go to more shows there, i.e. Airborne Toxic Event later this year. I haven't been able to listen to BLG since the show, tho. I hope that will pass.
