About

Boys Like Girls are a pop-rock band that formed in 2005. The quartet skyrocketed up the charts with anthemic singles like “The Great Escape” and “Love Drunk,” with the latter’s accompanying music video featuring High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale. Their two breakthrough singles were followed by a sweeping emo-tinged ballad featuring Taylor Swift, “Two Is Better Than One,” which helped the band’s second album (2009’s Love Drunk) land in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2012, the band’s frontman Martin Johnson began writing/producing music for everyone from blink-182 to Avril Lavigne, leading to Boys Like Girls going on hiatus (reforming sporadically to tour between 2016 and 2020). In May 2023, the band released “Blood and Sugar,” the first single from their upcoming fourth album and their first new song in over a decade.

  • Never Shout Never Shoulda Been the Headliner!

by JustAnotherMom on 7/28/09The Blue Note - ColumbiaRating: 3 out of 5

As a mom of teenagers accompanying them to the show, I had my doubts about what to expect. I found The Blue Note a great place for a show - seats in the balcony for me, dancing on the floor level for them - sufficient security for me that was never noticed by them - great staff!! I was most impressed with Never Shout Never, even though they weren't the main attraction. Christofer Drew had the crowd in the palm of his hand and seemed to truly enjoy the whole experience. Having only heard the music, I was impressed and the kids were thrilled with the way he interacted with the crowd. And, he had with him a great group of musicians - tons of talent - and the crowd jumped and danced and squealed the whole time. My favorite part was after the show - the bass guitar player from The Ready Set visited with concertgoers out front of the theater, signing autographs and talking to fans. Christofer Drew stood out back and talked and signed and posed for pictures until the last fan got to visit with him - and all this while still spending some time with his family who came up for the show. It was clear that even though these guys might rather have been relaxing on the bus eating dinner, they understand they couldn't do what they love for pay without all those young people buying their music. As far as spending my money for music or shows, I will be more than willing to spring for tickets for either of the two "opening acts" from this event, and more of their music is on the wish list for birthday gifts for the kids - don't you love ITunes gift cards.

  • MTV U bands amazing, the sound system... eh

by linaq on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

I loved this show but there were some times where the technology was simply sub par.

  • Boys Like Girls

by Foxychick on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

It was an amazing concert for my daughters. I never got BLG's guitar pick but I did help my daughter get Martin's water bottle after I got dowsed by it! more like I took a shower by it. We never made it onstage which was disappointing.

  • It was okay.

by maryve on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 2 out of 5

The bands were good, and the venue was in a good location. However, the assigned seating in actual seats took away a LOT from the entire experience. Guests couldn't crowd surf or do much more than sway back and forth in their assigned seats. INCREDIBLY annoying for people who have seen these same bands in different circumstances. The seating also took away from the energy of the crowd in general.

  • unforgettable night!!!!!!!

by movealong920 on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing and one of the best concerts yet. I would totally recommend it even if you barely know the bands. I didnt and had a great time. Met the guitar player from never shout never. soooo much fun.

  • Gym Class Heroes was hands down THE BEST!!!!!

by Pearsonfamilia on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

They always put on a great show; no matter how big or small the audience is (of course with them the audience is only getting bigger and bigger. Yet with all the fame they still remain humble and true to the music.

  • Excellent show

by thralloforcus on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

The lineup for this show was really good, and the venue was also a great location. All of the bands that played had amazing sets, and even the supporting bands had decent set times.

  • My kids had a wonderful time

by Magnusadv on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 5 out of 5

I took 3 girls ranging in age from 9 to 15, each one had a band that they wanted to see. My youngest was able to get an autograph from Jess of the Veronicias. The two older girls got their picture taken with Chris Drew of Never Shout Never. The fact that this was their first concert they and that the band members made themselves available after their sets was great. My girls had a wonderful first concert experience.....Thank you!!!!

  • The Academy Is- is amazing

by vana on 7/28/09Pier Six Concert Pavilion - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

Never Shout Never was obviously the crowd favorite, especially among the "teenie boppers"- but I think this was based mainly on Chris Drew's looks rather than his musical talent. The Academy Is brought in the strongest performance of all the bands. William Beckett was very animated and bouncing all over the stage- which is totally unexpected. When you meet him in person, he is such a nice, soft-spoken and mellow dude. I could have done without The Veronica's and I did not hang around to hear Gym Class Heroes Play. The MC did a great job keeping the crowd hyped up between acts. He even displayed some of his Michael Jackson moves to the delight of those watching.

  • Awesomeness!!

by JecJec on 7/23/09Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Watching all the bands play prior to BLG was cool! I didn't know any of them but now I like to listen to their music. But when BLG came on, I just couldn't contain myself. I didn't want to be near the tight packed group but i did have an awesome view! Loved it, Loved it, LOVED IT!!

  • Boys Like Girls are amazing!!

  • the best show of summer 09'

The concert was one of the best shows of the summer

  • An INCREDIBLE Performance

by MusicEqualsLife on 7/21/09Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

To put it simply, the show was AWESOME! They played most of their existing songs, as well as two of their brand new, unreleased songs from their next album. Its cool to know that I am one of the only people in the world to have heard them. Martin is an amazing performer. He doesn't just lpay music, he connects to the audience in a way that i have never seen before. He talked to us, and helf full conversations with us between songs. He walked around the venue, and dove into the audeience at the end! It was one of the two best concerts I have ever been to. Nevershoutnever and The Ready Set were amazing, too. I had the pleasure of meeting most of them before the show, and they were all so nice; they were willing to sign every t-shirt and take every picture we wanted.

  • seeing them perform was a life time event

by joziiiEtoXxiiic on 7/20/09House of Blues Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

the show was amazing. i think any one under the age of 19 would enjoy it. they are awsum performers. there music is one thing but meeting them is another. there really sweet people all of them. i would definentaly recommend them to family and friends. it was very hot and the lines were long but, everything was worth it. i had a great time it was incredible. don't forget UNFORGETTABLE!

  • Boys Like Girls at the Culture Room

    by Shelly2 on 7/18/09Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Wow what a fun night! The band was awesome and put on a fantastic show. I'm always entertained by these guys and really enjoy their music. They sound just as good live as on digital media. The Culture Room is an intimate venue and the views of the bands are decent from anywhere in the club.

  • good but foul

by rnisme on 7/18/09The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 3 out of 5

Most people there were girls under 16. I did not like that he kept using m-f- words to get them to move to make a mosh pit. They played well, but when playing to underage audience, should tone the colorful words down.

  • Nevershoutnever was amazing

by Keeman on 7/18/09Peabody's Downunder - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

The atmosphere was awesome. The Music was Great. i love how personal it was. i met two of the bands just while i was hanging out. i highly recommend it.

  • Boys Like Girls/ Nevershoutnever!

by CaptainJLC on 7/18/09Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I drove 4 hours to go to this concert and it was great! NSN was my favorite! NSN had a lot of energy and really worked the crowd. Boys like girls did great too and they played some new stuff, so I got to hear it before it was on the radio which was cool.

  • Unforgetable Concert!

by psugigi on 7/18/09The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

My friend and I waited out side for 6 hours to be sure we got front row seats, and we did! The music was awesome and the lights and extras was just as good! I would reccomend this show to any BLG fans!

  • Boys Like Girls rocked the house!

by Kilah on 7/18/09Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

In my opinion, this show was the best of my entire summer!
