About

Boys Like Girls are a pop-rock band that formed in 2005. The quartet skyrocketed up the charts with anthemic singles like “The Great Escape” and “Love Drunk,” with the latter’s accompanying music video featuring High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale. Their two breakthrough singles were followed by a sweeping emo-tinged ballad featuring Taylor Swift, “Two Is Better Than One,” which helped the band’s second album (2009’s Love Drunk) land in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2012, the band’s frontman Martin Johnson began writing/producing music for everyone from blink-182 to Avril Lavigne, leading to Boys Like Girls going on hiatus (reforming sporadically to tour between 2016 and 2020). In May 2023, the band released “Blood and Sugar,” the first single from their upcoming fourth album and their first new song in over a decade.

  • Opening acts were amazing.

by kashiiii on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

I had no idea what to expect when I went there but was surprised at how awesome the opening acts were. It was part of my dream line-up; cobra starship, the maine, and a rocket to the moon. Its a long time to stand up close with the amount of movement from the crowd but very much worth it.

  • Wish I could see them again!

It was so great! The show had so much energy and it was amazing.

  • Boys Like Girls rocked!

by reikoyamato on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Seriously, this was an awesome show. Especially with all the other opening acts: Versaemerge, A Rocket to the Moon (awesome!!), The Maine and Cobra Starship. Amazing concert!! Although the acoustics at the venue weren't really great =/

  • Amazing energy!

by RockinManduh on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I especially liked Cobra Starship and Boys Like Girls! The Riv is such an intimate setting that almost any seat in the house is a great one! The bands sounded similar to their CDs, but with a jolt of onstage energy kicked around in there! Amazing. I had such a great time and they sounded great, looked great and their set was amazing.

  • BLG has my heart

by OksanaZ on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The Op tour was absolutely amazing! All the bands played very well. The only bad thing was the pushing on the floor was unbearable. People were getting pulled out left and right. It was terrible. But other than that, everything was great!

  • Cobra Starship Stole the Show!!

by Anonymous on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The Show was amazing!! All the bands rocked. Cobra Starship definitely stole the show. Their high energy songs and fan favorite "Good Girls Go Bad" had everyone dancing and going crazy! The mosh pit was soo crazy too, but it was a lot of fun to see the acts that close.

I think this was one of the better concerts I have been to. I have been to better, but this overall was pretty amazing. I very much recommend this to anyone in other tour dates. I'm looking forward to other shows that are a lot like this.

  • Very Good Show

by JaspertheCow on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

The Maine was good. They played a variety of songs. Boys Like Girls was good as well. They played a lot of songs from both albums. Cobra Starship by far was the best. A very energetic song. I would recommend it to anyone.

The music was good , the problem was more with the purchase of the VIP package.i purchased the meet and greet package which was supposed to come with a variety of things but instead it didnt. This package was supposed to come with wristbands( braclets) , VIP Laminates etc and all we got was to meet the band and not even have them sign our own stuff like they said we could.Plus it was really crazy in teh crowd, no crowd control whatsoever, it was hard for a varitey of people to breath and such because of all teh pushing etc

  • Boys Like Girls= Amazing!

by LindsyF on 10/19/09Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing, the only low was probably Versaemerge, but they were hardly on stage. The show had a ton of energy and the music was great!

  • Cobra dazzled everyone!

    by MIkey5 on 10/18/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

All the bands brought unbelievable energy and stage presence! With that being said by far the real stars of this show where "The Maine and Cobra Starship" with more emphasis on Cobra's dazzling performance- that consisted of an unforgettable mix of old and new songs that shook the ballroom with a dance party vibe that will rival the end of the world parties! And HOT MESS was performed for the first time ever live! Boys like Girls the Headliners had a solid performance leading off with the group favorite of Love Drunk that kept the good times vibe rolling to the end despite how tired everyone was by that point!

  • EVERYTHING WAS AMAZINGGG

    by Dani2222222222 on 10/18/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was awesome! Versaemerg was good but Cobra Starship was my favorite! The light show for cobra was sick! The best i have ever seen! Boys like Girls was of course amazingg, I wish we would have gotten to meet Cobra Starships band members and The Maine because the Maine is awesome and they did soooo good! I really liked the opening show in the bar, Crows Over New York was really good as well!!!

i spent a big chunk of money on my ticket and it was so worth it! one of my first rock concerts was boys like girls last year. it was mind blowing! the whole gang knows how to bring down the roof. every single one of them are adorable and a joy to watch. the opening bands: rocket to the moon, and the maine are also on my top favorite list.

  • disappointed by The Maine

    by tbslovaaaah on 10/18/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - MilwaukeeRating: 2 out of 5

I was most excited for the Maine and I was irritated by the fact that the lead singer didn't even try to hit his high notes, and especially because he did the same thing at Warped Tour this summer. LAAAAAAAAAAME!

  • the maine is ah-maizing!!

It was really amazing being able to get so close to all the bands and it was a really amazing venue, i only wish there had been about 200 less people but oh well it was still amazing.
